As far as I know, the full (non-free) version of Sketch-up allows you to export into the Wavefront .obj format, which can then be imported into Oxygen. If you're using the free Sketch-up version, I'm afraid it won't be so easy.
icebreakr 3159 Posted January 25, 2012 I've been thinking the same. Sketchup is ultra easy (with no knowledge of this software I've drawn my house in exact measures and actually built it, gathering great ideas along with visualization). So I think to make couple of new buildings... oh the time, why isn't the day 48h long :/
[evo] dan 79 Posted January 25, 2012 isn't there some free converter that can convert files from the free version of sketchup into a format suitable for Oxygen (maybe export it, open in blender, then rexport into oxygen?) because I might have a go at a few models myself :)
OutSyder 0 Posted January 26, 2012 Sketchup is a great program for what it was designed for, 3d conceptualization. But it is not quiet matured to the point of being 100% integrated into the 3D artists workflow. The problem is that SketchUp's UV mapping is, well, nothing like traditional 3D design software. It is not impossible to make the necessary fixes and tweaks to the exported .obj files but it can be an ever expanding pain in the arse as the model complexity increases. I would suggest if you are serious about 3D modeling and gaming while on a budget you might consider Blender. It is not perfect but better suited to the task. So, open Sketchup, export the model and close it, takes like 1min. There are also free tools to convert from the available formats (kmz?) in the free version, but you have to use about 5 different programs in the right order to get the export right so I really wouldn't recommend it. I've converted dozens of models from sketchup pro to obj or 3ds and only used up about 1.5 hours of the program in 2 years. And some months ago I upgraded my pc and had to reformat so I'd start at 0 anyway when I'd reinstall it. If you export to 3ds and import to O2 sometimes you get a msg "missing dummy kfdata session" or sth. like that. In that case download this free program http://www.anim8or.com/main/ and enable the "dummy kftdata" from there, then resave the file. Obj exports seem to work fine. This...^^ while it is possible to get a mesh into A2, you would still be some good work hours away from getting it ready for the game (UVs, selections, ect).
