COOP 2 Radio Relay - Short two-player zombie coop mission on Proving Grounds

Recommended Posts

COOP 2 Radio Relay v1.0

By Colosseum

Map: Proving Grounds

Players: 1-2

Story:

You and your comrade have been sent to repair a damaged amateur radio repeater system in the old proving grounds. Your standard hand-held military radios don't have the range to establish communications past a few miles, but the repeater can be jury rigged for over-the-horizon coverage. Your commander wants you, the only officer in the platoon with any knowledge of radio, to get to the repeater and repair it. You camped at an abandoned farm last night, and have planned to step off this morning at first light.

Description:

This is a cooperative zombie mission akin to Chernarus Apocalypse by Celery. The players must work together to survive with the odds heavily stacked against them. Average play time is about 10-15 minutes. This mission is considerably more difficult than my previous zombie missions: even as the creator (knowing where all the ammo caches and supplies are located), I can only beat it about 1/5th of the time!

Mission works like this: get to the custom-built repeater tower (look for an antenna on top of an illuminant tower... sorry, best I could do...), fix the repeater with an action, and then escape. I am a ham radio operator so figured I'd throw a mission together around establishing reliable communications (which is what repeaters do). Fairly straightforward mission and challenging even for experienced and advanced anti-zombie players!

Features:

Addon-free but convincing zombies

Player characters have unique equipment

Custom healing script with shareable bandages

Zombies may drop bandages and magazines

Pistols are accurate

Selectable friendly fire damage rate

JIP players start close to the group

Character gear, bandages and damage are saved in case a player disconnects

Spectator mode after death

You can continue the game after dying by picking a new character slot

Credits:

Mission: Colosseum (Ian)

Scripts: Celery

Apocalypse series concept: Zipper5 and Celery

Noises and screams: Thief II: The Metal Age and freesound.org

Requirements:

ArmA2: Combined Operations (or equivalent)

BAF (recommended, but will work without)

PMC (recommended, but will work without)

Community Base Addons

Installation:

Put the pbo file into your ArmA 2\MPMissions folder.

Cool that you do more zombie missions !

But i think the BETA patch is needed to get the civilian zombies working because the ability to disable the FSM.

_zombie disableAI "FSM";

"FSM" - disable the execution of AI behavior scripts. Available only since Operation Arrowhead v1.60.

Is this why they randomly lay down?

I mean... I'm not complaining... ;) The civilian zombies' habit of laying down has saved my ass more than a few times!

I will take a look at adding the FSM thing and try to update it with the next release. I am very busy today so not this afternoon but probably tonight.

Thanks guys! I like making small, simple zombie co-op missions. Celery's scripts allow you to easily populate the entire map with randomly spawned zombies which is perfect for the type of adventuring (land navigation, weapons scavenging, etc) that is not present in many zombie games. ArmA2+Celery's zombies basically created my ideal zombie game!

That line was added with the latest version of the zombies, so if they are laying down, you have the latest version of the zombies. To stop this behavior you need to use the latest beta patch. This will all be fixed for everyone when 1.60 is released.

My understanding of it.

That explains it. I'm at v1.59 as of today but might upgrade soon if it's an improvement. I play with a lot of guys on Steam and I imagine theirs is auto-patched to 1.60 if prior experience tells me anything, which means I have to update anyway!

No mate 1.60 is not official yet its BETA so STEAM would not ship it out yet as far as I know.

If you want to use 1.60 ya need to update manually.

Right on. I'll update whenever my friends do.

Anyone have a chance to test the mission?

I tried it, and for what I can see I suppose I like it, but I can not give you an objective opinion because, as like another survival mission based on zombies and proving ground territory, this mix seems to be lethal for my GPU video driver (the very last one, but for the previous versions was the same).

I started the mission alone and killed some spare Z, then I found the armed pickup that allowed to me to kill some other Z without wasting the poor magazines of my handgun, but eventually, during an hard assault from many Z into the crater, the GPU gave up and the mission ended...

Maybe is only a my problem.

Cheers
