What makes ArmA more realistic and where does it come from?

Recommended Posts

Just had a scan through MP to see if theres any PVP, tvt or PR servers that are populated: none found.

There was only 1 pvp server that had people in it - 7 total, and thats a public server (which is what im strictly talking about, organized pvp blows all other things out of the water, i know that)

so, this is why I am taking the AI's side and not the pvp side - because public pvp is a mess and always will be, its not hard fighting 1 man at a time.

The only way PVP is exceptional is when its a passworded server and is played either between clans/units or the clan/unit plays against itself. Thats where its rewarding.

@Igneous01

There is only one PvP North American server and I'm sure that's the one you saw (-C5) with 7 players. You should have tried it out... There would be more connecting as the night goes on. All the other PvP servers are either in Europe or Russia.

Thats the biggest load of shit man.... that server with '7 players' would have

probably been the 'Cerberus 5' (C5) server.... it has numerous admins and

many respected player with admin, and it open to the public server, I bet

everyone of those 7 players had admin rights.

If you get one kill on any of these guys, thats more of a reward than you could

know.

Its a great server to play on with mostly regular/clan members of which are

all very friendly and welcoming... its the best run servers around, thanks to a

great guy by the nic of Sgt.Cowboy.

Being public has NOTHING to do with being 'a bad server' and has

EVERYTHING to do with sloppy or no administration... and I know as I ran

servers for 3 years (OGN) and ran a hugely successfully PvP server in

Australia (until we lost our ISP), 10+ most weeknights and 40+ most

weekend nights and it was public... Just Properly Administrated, I'd spot

grievers before 90% of the players even knew he/she was there... just knew

how to do my job well.

So from my experience you do not know what you are talking about.

If I can get it to work that successfully in a country of 22 million... so can others.

I played on C5 for a few hours, it was pretty decent. I enjoyed it for the most part, didn't seem to hard to play. However, what I didn't like was that I could use the crosshairs the entire game and get kills because using sights was not efficient enough. Plus even with me being on TS with Cowboy and some other guys, it didn't really feel like a whole lot of teamwork, it was fun and had a good chat with the guys, but its not like we were all covering each other and each sector as a fireteam. Thats what was a bit of a turn off for me.

I will probably play there a bit more and see what happens - maybe ill get a chance to see pvp shine. Dont get me wrong, it was fun, but not exactly immersive or realism-like.

Ill give it a few more chances though before I decide, to be fair.

atm its very quite all over ArmA (cod,bf3, skyrim etc etc) and I do know

what you mean about teamwork and communication... I've had alot of great

times there with more players and separated ts channels and it get very

good, I've had one amazing game where I teamed up with a guy called

'Chard'... the two of us could see each others path and informed of enemy

and covered each other on our unstoppable advance... we absolutely killed it

and it was perfect...

I'm waiting till late Jan to get back into A2 PvP and CB updating to 1.60... but

for now I play red orchestra 2 :)

I think I have to explain why I like Coop and dislike PvP

My group consists of many people (I even dare to say that we are the bigest really active group in Germany) and we simply like to play WITH each other. We like to be a Team and to have a good time. Its also much easier to have large scale Operations in Coop.

I have PvP and TvT experience. TvT can be really fun but some people can' handle loosing. I played in two leagues with large scale Bluefor vs. Opfor and both leagues went fubar because some people were more concerned about balancing (They have M1A1 we only has T 90) then about playing the game. And when they started loosing they didn't show up on the next session.

Stuff like that doesn't happen in Coop.

Coop makes friends not rivals.

What you said is utter nonsense. Please do yourself a favor and at least reread what you wrote before you post. I may be high but that paragraph makes no sense.

Ignorant doesn't mean to ignore something. You are ignorant to the meaning of ignorant.

My post makes perfect sense. Yours on the other hand demonstrates repeated linguistic deficiencies. Please do yourself a favour and try improving your English.

Above all, try taking into account other people's points of view. You'll notice that some of those who've posted here have years of experiencing with modding this game and its predecessors. A small measure of humility wouldn't go amiss.

Men not weak of mind would develop a much stronger friendship and respect for

someone that they have to work hard to best.

Kidding?! NOOO I've never heard anyone ever complain about inbalance when

playing AI, or 600m kills with 1 shot, or walking through wall etc etc etc...

Ha, troll harder.

Way to deliberately insult the majority of this game's players and content. You're an infantile pissant troll.

Co-op players are "armchair generals," but naturally Pvp players are real men and hardened killers, like real soldiers. You sound like a 12-year-old CoD player.

Oh, I don't play MP for want of time and fast internet. The only organized MP I have done in the last year was a large-scale PvP tournament.

So stop hijacking the thread.

Went to try out Cerebus5 tonite but it was still at 1.59. Haven't had much success playing Arma2 PvP in the past - a few games but I never felt that engrossed in them but i do like the human challenge. Maybe theres just too many rooms with too many different dependencies, I dunno.

The best PvP I've had in this series was the Arma1 Demo CTF outside of Cayo IIRC. It was a room always packed with 20 per team, night after night and you got to know almost everyone creating both camraderie and arch enemies. The immersion was huge and always had that excitement to enter and could easily lose 3-5 hours RL time in total joy.

Miss those times..

Yeah I know, CB believes its a good idea to wait a few weeks before

updating the server... ?!
