Actually, I read the thread but didn't say anything because I have nothing to add at the moment. I'm using XP Professional, and have no problems when leaving a game -- it closes immediately.

The only things I can suggest is to see whether the ICF (Internet Connection Firewall) is enabled, or if the modem/router has a firewall built-in. That could cause a delay if OFP is waiting for some magic packet that will never show up. Also, make sure that ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is disabled.

If you select your Network Connections folder and right-click on your internet connection and select Properties. You can go to the Advanced tab and disable personal firewall settings for that connection. This may solve your problem.

Thanks for the input gents. I have turned off firewalls.disabled the ICF....no help. I contacted Adtran(modem) they say its codemaster sofware. Isp says the same.microsoft says the same. But as i informed microsoft the problem started with instalation of XP. confused.gif Hell i have told them all that!......

Have it sorted out gents biggrin.gif ..I will keep XP as an OS.

This took 5 weeks and about 4hrs of phone time.....

My ISP was not compatable with XP. The tech swore it was and it was windows that was the problem. When i got the "senior" tech on the phone he said "your version will not work with XP!" took 10min to fix mad.gif ....all earthlink users call and make sure you have latest version!...you must have ver.5.07a.....PC and OFP are one again biggrin.gif

hmm, do you use proprietary software from Earthlink to connect (dial-up?)?

Earthlink uses WinPoet by iVasion for connecting to their network, and it is a real piece of junk. It is possible to bypass their software and connect to Earthlink directly, and I strongly suggest doing so to anyone with a little bit of networking expertise.

update your drivers, for your modem etc (as xp updates its own generic drivers on your hardware, and a lot of users experienced problems with modems). never activate xp firewall cos it actually doesnt work. try running firewall tests on it, its like having no firewall, but it stops applications from working properly, even microsoft's own windows messenger.

try disabling software running in the background one by one, like a virus scanner or other non-xp stuff, to try and whittle down the problem if possible

then if that doesnt work, go back to win98se, win xp is bug-ridden and there is at least 1 unique problem to each user.

oh, you can try and explain your problem to codemasters or microsoft, neither of which are prepared to listen... lol
