Akira 0 Posted May 30, 2002 It seems to be a HUGE story over here, and frankly I'm getting a little tired of it. Its been all over the news on whether or not Paramount should be releasing "The Sum Of All Fears." Allegedly, the administration has even piped in questioning the timing. I for one think its a big load of crap, and is adding nothing to a serious debate other than to add free publicity for the movie. The serious questions that the movie actually raises are being drowned out by critics that do nothing to talk of the movie other than to "question its timing." Since when has a movie more timely come out? Yes, its another big budget Hollywood everything goes "BOOM" movie. But it does deal with a post-9/11 concern. The fact that Tom Clancy has written about such things for years (including crashing passenger liners into buildings) makes me think we shouldn't export such items. And I'm guessing the last option will be the most picked
Die Alive 0 Posted May 30, 2002 Hahah, that movie was shot in my home town, and the football game that's supposed to be the super bowl was actually played with Canadian Fooball League players. I'm not going to see it, after all, the "terrorists" in the were arabs while the ones in the movie are European neo nazis. -=Die Alive=-

Texican 0 Posted May 30, 2002 Well, to add to Akira's point, it's Baltimore that gets it, not NY. Hehehe, so it is different.
Akira 0 Posted May 30, 2002 In the book it was suppose to be Denver. Guess there was a large Denver lobby that petitionedto have it change....only reason I can see to change it. Plus not sure why they changed it to Neo-fascists from Arabs. Everyone is so busy being PC, and steering away from so called "profiling," so that shit like this CAN happen. As I read in one commentary, "what are you going to do? continue to search white parapyligics and old people"?
Aculaud 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I dont care when the thing comes out, and i particularly dont think its too close to current events. People practicly look for things to be paranoid about. Its a typicality of human nature these days. After the collumbine shooting, people were watching the things that their kids did like hawks with video cameras, as if anyone could be next. Its really sad that parents dont even know their own children well enough to know that they'd never do anything like that. Its just a movie we're talking about. Based on a book. That was NOT based on truth. If youre too impressionable to take it for what it is, than you shouldnt be exposed to it. I've heard things about middle eastern countries getting nuclear bombs in the near future, so this movie might very well touch a nerve along those lines, even if its not focused on the middle east. Its hard to say what should be done to keep things safe after 9/11, or even if we can.
kegetys 2 Posted May 30, 2002 I voted "Who cares?" cause I have no idea what you are talking about. Haven seen anything in the news.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I wish you could vote twice. guess which ones I would pick?
Akira 0 Posted May 30, 2002 It is true... People wouldn't be giving the movie a second guess if September 11th hadn't happened. Would just be another big budget Hollywood movie otherwise....
Texican 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I picked who cares. People are worrying about movies and their effect. How about worrying about real terrorists and their effect? It's just a movie if you are offended here's an option, don't go see it. Go see Undercover Brother or some art film or something!
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I love the movie's message: "Dude! A nuke just hit us! Mustve been the Commies! Lets light those fuckers up!" "Wait! It wasnt the Commies! It was some terrorist wierdos!" "Really??" "Really!" "Oh, okay, thats not so bad." Like because it was terrorists the nuke killed less people. LOL
Akira 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I imagine I'll go see it for the sheer fact that: A-there is a nuke explosion and B- from the looks of it, this is the closest I'm gonna get to a visualization of the naval battles in Red Storm Raising.
Aculaud 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I'll see it, just cause i'm a fan of this genre
Warin 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I am going to go see it just because I love the genre... Tom Clancy kicks ass, even if his more recent books have been a little...dull I am going into it with an open mind. Course, we all know who the TRUE terrorists are. The people who run the concession stand at the theater! They need to change it from Concession to Extortion! 4.75 for a large coke? AIEE!!!
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 30, 2002 Amen Warin. Theaters are too damn expensive. And his latest books arent boring, they are 'well-paced'
Akira 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I remember back in the day when a large popcorn meant a LARGE popcorn....big bucket of it....now its some damn BAG that a child could finish!
Die Alive 0 Posted May 30, 2002 I've heard just this week that you know that powder you could put on popcorn, lik BBQ, Sourcream and Chives, or whatever flavor they got there, now a couple people at Perdue University made a..... wait for it.............. beer flavor powder you can sprinkle on your chips or pop corn. I personaly always sneak in a 1.5L bottle of beer or a king can of beer for every movie I watch. I once watched a triple bill, 3 movies in like 6 hours on a saturday afternoon/night, and I left the theater drunk! lol Or at least I bring in a mickey of run or Crown Royal to mix with the water downed coke i buy. -=Die Alive=-
PHY_Hawkeye 0 Posted May 30, 2002 Heres a better poll: Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan. Is this.. A - a good thing. or B - FUBAR.
USSoldier11B 0 Posted May 31, 2002 B. Fucked up Ben Affleck is not at all the type. Geez, they put him and Hartnet (gay) in one war movie and now they got to be in all of them. I actually liked Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan, of course Harrison Ford is always good too. Denver is the city that gets nuked? Why Denver? It's fairly big but nowhere near NYC or L.A. Militarily an unimportant target. Colorado Springs would make more sense because NORAD, USAF Academy, Ft. Carson, and Petersen AFB are there. I live 50 miles from Denver. I would probably get a terrible sunburn.
Badgerboy 0 Posted May 31, 2002 Denver is targeted in the book, as it is the host of the Superbowl, plus the Defense Secetary and the Vice President are there as attending it. There are some European characters in the book, but they merely start a tank battle between the Russians and Americans. BTW, On the Simpsons today, I noticed that one of Krustys jokes was cut out. (Whats the difference between Pakistan and a pancake? I never heard of a pancake that got nuked by India) Oh well, far be it from Fox to fortell the future. USSoldier11B 0 Posted May 31, 2002 They would never have a Super Bowl at Mile High Stadium (now the new Invesco Field) too cold and players would bitch about the altitude (unless it was the Broncos). WTF? I've never read the book.

Can you believe it? FOX has censors? LOL! I guess they decided to cut it off since current situation is not funny.(and it's not)
IceFire 0 Posted May 31, 2002 Hell no, it aint funny. My folks are posted at the US Embassy in New Deli India right now. I am visiting for the summer. We are on high alert that we may be evacuated due to the volatile situation here. We won't know for sure for some time. We are having big full briefing today at 4 pm. But they say that we may get evacced in the next day or so if shit hits the fan here. If we do get evacced, I will prolly get sent to France and my parents may be reposted to another country if it doesn't improve here. Maybe some nice 1st world country. Who knows?
