Mcdi 10 Posted July 25, 2011 Good afternoon, I know thats a vague thread title but I have a little dream that I hope someone can help me create. I've been waiting since arma 1 for a USMC Drill Instructor and yet after so many add-on requests, the idea has yet to spark any intrest. I noticed there are big fans out there of Marine Corps units already created, so I thought since some of you have the experience in creating Marines, why not reach out for a little bit of guidance on creating the men who make the Marines in real life. I have the BI Tools and 3d's max modeling software to create the DI, but idk how to start, I've searched the forums but nothing mentions how to create a model from the ground up, could you lend me some help? Thanks in advance Wright *P.S. I wont be able to respond to your posts if you do decide to help me as I am leaving for MCRD SD on 20110801 to earn my EGA but I will definitely respond in NOV., with plenty of real world experience of the infamous USMC Drill Instructor. HyperU2 11 Posted July 25, 2011 Doesn't seem like there would be any reason to create one, and there is a request thread. Have fun Hollywood.
Mcdi 10 Posted July 25, 2011 I know it's more of a personal want, and I tried multiple requests but I guess there's more important add-on's to wast time on. That's why I'm trying to get all the help I can so I can waste my time on the add-on I want. I'm going to have a 13week blast of fun :D
kylania 568 Posted July 25, 2011 I'd requested one oh so long ago. It would be a great addition for people who play ArmA as a milsim and not just a silly game.
Mcdi 10 Posted July 25, 2011 Yea it would, but I guess we're the only two who think so haha but hopefully I get someone to mentor me so I can create one.

Mcdi 10 Posted July 25, 2011 No one said it was silly plus that's the whole deal I'm having, idk where to begin on making one

PuFu 4600 Posted July 25, 2011 If you want to use 3ds max for modelling, i suggest you search for tutorials on the web, there are plenty. For O2, the amount of resources are fewered. Once you have your mesh as you want it, you'll need to set it up to work in the game, which is done via 3ds max plug (part of it anyways) or O2. At that you add the configs. raptor 6 actual 13 Posted December 8, 2011 Hey there MCDI, I am actually person #3 with this SAME, EXACT wish, lol. Not to drag up an old thread, but I just found it, and I wanted to let you know that I have the brim of the DI cover made, but trying to find the right height for the top block part is a little more difficult. I'm learning 3ds max and Oxygen now, so if you have any measurements of a real one, that would help. Other than that, in January I'm heading over to Ft. Hood here in Texas and buying an old one for research. The four indentions on the top part are the most difficult to make, but not impossible. I know this great guy from TF86 (SafetyCatch) that made his Marine 2.0 pack for OFP. His DI cover was a little too big, but is a great start in the right direction. I once asked him for permission to re-edit it, but have since lost the .p3d. I'll keep working on the brim and building it up and try to post some WIP shots of it here if you don't mind me using your thread to let you know that the dream is close at hand. Mcdi 10 Posted December 13, 2011 I found a real DI with our same goal, he can probably help you out more http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=16148
Mcdi 10 Posted December 14, 2011 Hey I tried borrowing my DI's cover off his head to get the demensions back at mcrd, let's just say that didnt go so well haha but I found yet another jarhead wanting to pay respect to their DI's by creating an add-on, plus I'm pretty sure u can get real spec from this dude, sorry I couldn't help you out more, hope to see some progress shots soon. http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=16148
raptor 6 actual 13 Posted December 17, 2011 Thanks, I believe it's the same link. I have an actual Campaign "cover" to get the measurements off of. I'm doing some tutorials on 3ds Max at the moment just trying to get that right "tear" drop indention into the cover. The rest of it went by pretty easy, but I want it to look good, so the top, final section is taking some research and trial and error. Thanks for the effort. PuFu 4600 Posted December 17, 2011 no matter of the real size, you'll need to fit that on top of a A2 head, which is a lot more important (to actually look good and fit) that to be 100% accurate.
