Connecting failed with ArmA 2 Free players

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody. I've been playing with a good friend of mine for a while now, and we've convinced a couple other guys to get ArmA 2 Free. Both of the people who have attempted to join the vanilla ArmA 2 server (Not dedicated, hosted out of my box) with A2Free Clients have gotten 'connecting failed' errors. I have a swathe of ports forwarded, and I doubt it is a problem on my end because someone's been able to connect just fine for months. There are a collection of threads and answers on the internet for the 'connecting failed' problem, and we've tried the winsock reset to no avail. Any help?

I apologize if this has already been answered or is obvious. Some googling didn't reveal very clear or complete answers.

My version of ArmA 2 is 1.10, and I assume my friends have the latest version of A2Free.

You're sure you're running vanilla Arma2, not Combined Operations or any mods? Double check your shortcut ('Launch Options' on Steam*) to make sure there's no -mod= parameter set.

They do have A2Free, not the free promo from GNG? I know there were some serial key issues with that GNG version.

To see if it's a port issue you could load the dedicated server executable on your machine and see if they could connect to that.

*edit: It just occurred to me- you can't get A2Free on Steam, can you? Haha, nm that part.

Thought I would resurrect this thread as opposed to making a new one. I recently downloaded ArmA II free, along with my little brother. Both running Windows Vista (the exact same cpu actually). We too are having no luck connecting what so ever. Not only to each others servers, as we both tried to host to play together, but we can't join anyone else's server either.

That is, other servers that JUST have ArmA II free. Any help on this? I would really like to get a taste of this with my brother before I go buy anything to play DayZ, which is what really got me interested in the first place.

That's the problem, then, or I'll eat my hat. 1.10 is an older version. You need 1.11. That goes for you, too, Mdiddy--be sure you've patched up after installing. The non-Steam A2F installer isn't up-to-date.
