Greenman Games triggering FADE?

Recommended Posts

I downloaded arma 2 through greenman games (im gonna make a thread there too) offer from the sun.co.uk, and its triggering fade warnings, im not sure why, after i got one the first time i did a full uninstall and cleaned out the registry and all that, the very first time i tried to run the game i got "bad serial on install" and it crashed, i thought it might be because the battleye folder was in C: Arma 2 instead of where it was supposed to be, so copy and pasted it to were it should be and it launched fine, and the online was ok, but i got the "illegal copies ma degrade" message, and on this install im getting the crap accuracy trigger.

the install path for GMG's arma (they have their own client) 2 is "C:\Program Files (x86)\CapsuleGames\ARMA II - PC"

I dont know if this would cause an issue, but im in the US and the offer was from a UK website, and when i made me GMG account they didnt ask me to pick a location, and i didnt get any warnings or anything, my order confirmation was in dollars but the client is in pounds, so i dont know if there is some location thing that could be causing fade to trigger, or if its something in the install path thats messing it up somehow, their version is 1.10 also.

My guess is they did some things and it's triggering FADE. Maybe they are making illegal copies and selling them. I would highly suggest you email them to get a full refund. If they don't offer you a refund, contact your bank company ASAP and tell them about the issue to get your money back. Tell the bank you were sold fake software.

Then buy the game from a reputable seller (Sprocket, D2D, Steam).

it was a free voucher from here, and i downloaded another game from there, men of war, and that one works fine, and they are apparently a relatively new service (2009 i believe), and they look legitimate, and i dont think the sun would post a link to there unless they knew it was legit, but i could be wrong... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/fun/gaming/3681414/Games-for-gratis.html

Oh yeah...I'm sure what they're doing is not legal. I'll get in touch with Maruk (CEO) or one of the mods to confirm my suspicions.

They probably bought the game on disc, ripped it and are giving it away for free "this weekend only". Simply ripping the game will trigger FADE.

This works by deactivating the activation code required to play games online, which is then re-sold as 'pre-owned'

^^ That is not possible with ArmA!!! A 3rd party company can't "deactivate" the activation code of any game! They are not a legitimate company. Basically, any key of ArmA they give out will activate the FADE security system. As I said, get the game from a reputable dealer. (Preferably Sprocket.)

idk, i would like to hope that they are legit as they certainly look it, i made a post on their forums and i want to see what they say first as maybe its an issue with how their client works but im not an expert on how fade works or anything so i dunno...:/

I can tell you right now that they aren't legitimate. Of course on their forums they are going to say they are legitimate. If it's too good to be true, it probably is! Just because they look legit, doesn't mean they are.

I'm not sure how FADE works, but I know it certainly is effective.

I understand where your coming from, but massive other dev's and publishers listed there with their games, they have the verisign and all major card companies there, facebook, twitter and more importantly a customer support line. If indeed your are correct however it is a massive bit of fraud worthy of headlines.

they havent said anything yet, but theyve been talked about on websites like destructoid, geek.com, gamersnexus, etc, and i cant find anything bad about them, im not saying i dont believe you, but i just havent seen anything that makes me think they arent other than this issue, and the other game i got from them doesnt have any issues that ive found yet...so i guess ill find out if the mods or the ceo look into it...

Looking at it more, read what i wrote above, its not a fraud company with those pubs and customer support lines ect, and big game reviews like destructoid.

I've seen plenty of companies with all that information that are not legit. Is the verisign logo click-able?

Have you tried calling their support line? (Most fraud companies have "robots" answering)

thats what im thinking too, but i read an article that said they use secureROM for all of their games, and when i did my install for arma i had to activate the game and it generated a serial (and a second set of numbers), but they have a system where you can trade in games, and it assigns that key to another player who bought it (i dont know if thats true though because that doesnt make sense), and i though secureRom uses the serial as the authentication, so maybe i got a funky key or something that arma doesnt like, but i reinstalled it earlier today and didnt have to do the reverification like i did with the initial install...im going to try clearing the cache that resets your download and try re DL'ing it and reinstalling it again and see if that helps...

no i havent, because i was going to wait to see what they say and what the mods say here, and their uk based so its late there.

and most companies have robots that answer, "press 1 for technical support" :p

edit: i tried the site just now and their down due to heavy traffic (but steam basically explodes whenever a sale goes up)

I acknowledge you point and indeed they do however the facts and peoples previous experience way into this.

Dont know about the ArmA thing maybe they have done something they shouldnt have however as for the firm itself.

Look for yourself plenty companies in gaming community post all about them, im sure they have not been fooled:

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/green-man-gaming-teams-up-with-the-sun-for-free-game-giveaway/042695

But i mean , really mate its partnered with CVG .

Green Man Gaming announced a partnership with gaming website ComputerandVideoGames.com, and sponsored a category in the 2010 Golden Joystick awards.

Plus this:

The website was nominated for a 2011 MCV award in the Digital Retail Innovation category

Not to mention the Sun.

Really enough said there. There not fraudulent.

Still though, BIS should really look into it. I've found that they are registered through VeriSign, it's just that their link isn't clickable(Which VeriSign says it should be)

I'm still thinking that they are giving away illegal copies. Where are they getting these CD keys? And if they are buying them in bulk legally, why would it be setting off FADE?

well wouldnt steam copies have keys also? the only difference being steam does everything behind the scenes?

arma is the only one that had me do anything with a key (i havent downloaded the 3rd game yet, so idk), and it only had me do it once on the very first install, it gave me a bad key on install, i moved the battleye folder to its proper place (i think), it started fine with no error, then i got fade later on, uninstalled, reinstalled, got the fade accuracy trigger, uninstalled, reset game data through their client and im now redownloading it...

@ Dice Sorry mate, but clearly with the firms supporting it there doing nothing illegal it would have been picked up., As for steam and GMG must be something unique to their setup possibly.

@ghost looking like this is a purpose thing unless they have done something wrong and its an actual error.

Your key (in an encrypted form) is in registry

HKEY_LOCAL_something then find ArmA 2 there

@ Dice

Can you please stop getting crazy? There have been a couple of promotions over the

years proving arma 2 for free. This is the first with an online download maybe yes.

Still you should check your facts first.

I'm not getting crazy PvPscene. I was just worried that this "Green Man Gaming" company was giving away illegal copies of ArmA. And even more suspicious that it only opened a year ago, how can they afford such huge giveaways????

I was unable to check out the website, obviously because it was flooded. I am trying to be helpful and prevent the possible illegal sale of ArmA II and people jump at my throat?

Wow.
