ARMA II weapons IN OA

Recommended Posts

My wife and I regularly play the 'Diplomacy' missions on our LAN and both have the DVD versions of ARMA II.

We recently both acquired the Steam versions of OA and found that we don't like the stock small arms as much as we do the ones from ARMA II. In particular we are really missing the Mk.12 SPR rifle.

I have set up the Combined Operations option in the Steam menu but that doesn't seem to offer any additional weapons in the 'Warfare' version of OA.

Is there a way of getting the Mk.12 SPR to appear as an available weapon in OA? I have looked at the weapon PBOs but they appear to have the same names so a simple replacement looks out of the question.

If you combined ArmA2 with OA = Combined Operations, then you have the content from both games. If you don't have the Mk12 or if you can't select the A2 islands in the editor after you run CO then something went wrong while combining the games.

There is a thread here on how to combine the two games.

I don't know much about stock missions but even if you have successfully combined A2 & OA into CO the stock OA missions almost certainly still won't utilise the A2 weapons. You will need to consider editing the missions yourself or trying a community made version of Warfare which has been created to use content from both games (I guess Warfare BE probably does).

Not sure whether to congratulate or commiserate you on coming by a wife that plays - for myself I think I prefer some things separate!

If I start Combined Ops then when I set up the LAN MP server I can indeed see all the ARMA islands and the various OA areas but the weapons stay dedicated to each area once I pick one to play in.

That's what I guessed but I was hoping for a way of doing it.

She has a long history of playing FPS type games going way back through the Quake series and the original Castle Wolfenstein running in DOS on a 386! She's very good and actually outscores me in ARMA II from time to time.

Respect to your wife. Good to hear that female fps gamers are braking free of the steriotype bull. :)

Is your A2 and OA installed in the same place ? (that is the easyest way of having CO)

My 17 year old daughter also likes to play ARMA and I know several females who like to play the CoD series of war games.

They are on different partitions of the same drive but unfortunately when I bought and installed the Steam version of OA I didn't see an option to install to my 'games' drive/partition and it installed to 'C:\Program Files\.....' instead.

However, when I ran the CO option from the Steam game shortcut I could see both sets of game maps when I tried to start a LAN MP server but selecting OA's Takistan only gave me the OA weapons as usual.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what CO does but I thought it combined both games into one (including weapons and vehicles) but it looks like I am just getting an interface/GUI to select either version from the same screen and then the original version runs.

It does combine both games but the missions are separate entities that do not change. Running CO is beneficial mostly when you want to play user-made missions that have content from both games.

CO makes you use A2 and A2OA in one. if you launch a mission from A2OA (let's say the campeign) you only have the OA weapons. to have A2 weapons in a mission (on takistan) the maker must have used the this addweapon "weaponA2"; command if he's using OA units.

CO makes it possible to play on both maps in the same game. not to use A2 weapons in a OA offical campeign.
