wyskass 10 Posted May 31, 2011 I've been running into this issue when sometimes unpredictably my player will refuse to run for a intermittent period. This occurs regardless of ground steepness, since it can occur on flat. I'm not tired or out of breath because it recently happened just at the start of a mission. My squad can run just fine, and there is still a perceptible difference in walk/run speed but it's as if both suddenly got cut in half. It's a real bitch when it occurs during sprints between cover and I end up strolling across the street while getting shot at. Specifically I'm in a run, after toggling to run, and it just starts walking. Switching to walk makes it even slower. A sprint doesn't speed it up at all. Then with no change in controls he'll run for a few steps then back. On flat and 100 % fresh. I can't even figure out a pattern of occurrences. Has anyone had this issue? nkenny 1057 Posted May 31, 2011 Sounds like a control issue. Be aware that Double-tapping Shift TOGGLES walk/jogging pace. Try to unbind that function in your settings and see if the trouble dissapears. -k
Jak170 10 Posted May 31, 2011 also, perhaps your keyboard is having connection issues either inside the keyboard itself or between the keyboard and the computer. This can cause the game to think your pressing and unpressing a button even if you are holding it down.
wyskass 10 Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. It seems like it's actually related to TrackIR. When I re-recenter or look down all the way, I'm able to run again. It would seem to be related to that.
Maciek95PL 10 Posted June 1, 2011 I see that TrackIR makes big troubles for the controls. Is there any way to avoid them, because I like using it very much and it happened to me a few times too and I didn't know why.
wyskass 10 Posted June 1, 2011 One thing you want to do is make sure that the camera can pick up all the extremes of your head movement. I try to adjust the Track Clip so that it can be visible from all angles. Also during the game I often recenter with a hotkey, and when the running problem occurs and just hit recenter and/or look down.
Maciek95PL 10 Posted June 6, 2011 Ok, thank you. Another problem is that keys F9-F11 often don't want to work. Some others that I'm using with TIR5 too. Is there any solution to that?
liquidpinky 11 Posted June 10, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. It seems like it's actually related to TrackIR. When I re-recenter or look down all the way, I'm able to run again. It would seem to be related to that. Sometimes with TrackIr you can be making your character lean very slightly and this will stop them running. You won't even notice the lean as it is that slight. If you remove the lean bind from controls you will see it will probably sprint okay. You may be moving left or right in your seat at some point during play. I have actually changed my TrackIR lean to proper leaning detection by using Freetrack +rZ for left and Freetrack -rZ for right. You can then set the lean severity up in the Freetrack software or use the slider in the options so that you can have it match your own actual physical lean. The default lean for Freetrack in game use left or right movement of your whole body and requires you to move around a lot more and can cause the problems you are having. If you switch to third person using numpad enter when you have the sprint problem you may see your character leaning, when you re centre that is why this problem goes away. I also increased the centre deadzone in the Freetrack software to try and sort this out too.
