Better updating system for Lin servers?

Recommended Posts

Please? Title pretty much expresses my rage and annoyance :confused:

Basically, you have to upload your entire Arma 2:CO (15GB) just to setup a server... and when a new patch is out, Windows server users can patch it straight from the patch installer. Linux users have to download it on their Windows machines and then upload 15GB on home DSL via SFTP. Hopefully they do something bout it in Arma 3.

Agreed! :D

But if not I'm sure we'll , "Survive, Adapt, and Win"

A server package for the initial setup would be good for both.

@doonbugie

You should read about rsync and similar technologies for patching.

You don't have to upload all files nor the complete modified files for patching.

I'd still prefer some sort of proper pactching system from BIS.

Me too. But always good to think and talk about alternatives.

Why don't introduce "licenced" Linux servers? And rsync core files against one official BIS controlled server, hosting updated files?

Guess most of us don't like uploading 12-14 GB unchanged data for each patch (this is for AA2, guess you can double it twice for AA3).

And I can't really see any good reason to wait for AA3 with this (if possible), I bet there is a few admins out there who would like to see it introduced in AA2 as well ;)
