Rifleman 0 Posted May 20, 2002 i just started modeling with GMAX, i went thru the tutorials and now im working on a tank(my own design) for now, to get the hang of tank modeling, just wondering what all needs to be done in oxygen and so i wont try to do it in GMAX, like some1 else said that the gear on a plane would have to be put on in oxygen, so just wondering what it would be on a tank also should i just goahead and model the interior on the tank? i want to go ahead and finish this tank up to get expierience, but ill work on some real tanks after this 1, some that are useful, but that nobody else is making, dont want to make another copy of something there is already 10 versions of ill try to get some pics up soon

ALDEGA 0 Posted May 20, 2002 "New modeler!". You've just completed some tutorials, and you don't have oxygen. Yet the title makes it seems like you do... choose a more appropriate title next time, please. All you can do right now is practice. I suggest you stick to the vehicle model itself, not the interior. You should do that afterwards. You'll have to make all the "moving instruments", which I don't see happening in gmax.
Tales_From_Topographic_Oceans 0 Posted May 20, 2002 I may explore modeling/editing next. I need some general info. 1) How long does it take to start modeling including reading all the tutorials? (a few weeks, months)? I need a custom object for a mission and I need to allow time since I am on a deadline. 2) Are all the programs needed to do this available for download or do you have to buy any software? 3) how long does it actually take to create a new object? a few hours, days? KingBeast 0 Posted May 20, 2002 Takes a couple of weeks to be able to mdoel quite well, and then months to improve on your techniques and learn new methods, refine your existing ones etc. You dont need to purcahse anything really. Depending on the complexity of the object (is it spherical? is it angular?) the time could be anywhere from an hour or two to god knows how long

KTottE 0 Posted May 20, 2002 GMAX is good for modelling, I suppose. I've never used it myself, but I have used it's bigger brother 3D Studio Max. Anyway, even if GMAX can make great models, you still need Oxygen. And you can't get that. They had a system where you e-mailed BIS and asked, but they won't give it out anymore. But, if you make a finished model, and send it to me in .max or .3ds format I'll make sure to get it in-game for you.
