This would make it easier for aspiring addon makers to find content they know can be used as an inspiration or base for their new creations. I use the term "Permission Free" as I don't believe that OFP addon makers have commonly used any formal licensing model like Creative Commons or GPL etc. Please correct me if I'm wrong :) Also, "Permission Free" does not mean "Credit Free" Some examples of "Permission Free" addons that I know of are: * BIS Models * Sanctuary's WW4 mod * Mehanic's vehicles * MAS AH-64A/D Apache Longbow (1.33) Currently, I think the only way to find this information is to parse the readme files of addons to see what the creator's wishes are regarding content reuse. This can be time consuming and inconsistent terms are often used so crawling readme files is not straight-forward. I think it would be a big time-saver and encourage the creation of new addons. ***DISCLAIMER*** Time is valuable - both yours and the addon makers that have come before you. Please take the time to thoroughly read all licenses, readmes and documentation that accompany the addon that you wish to use components from. Be aware of any restrictions on both redistribution AND content reuse. As one of the creators of the addon: no, you will need to have permission first. And I think you've misunderstood some of the disclaimers, f00bar. Nowhere on the MERCS addons disclaimers it states that addon makers are allowed to use parts of them for their own projects. It only allows modification for personal purposes only. If anyone wants to release his modifications to the public or use any parts of the addon, they should acquire a permission to do so. So those addons are not exactly "permission free", unless it's specifically stated in the readme that modifications and such are fully allowed, like in the DMA resistance readme: "You also do not need to ask permission to edit and release a new addon made from these." I would suggest to remove any such addons from your lists that don't have any statement like that. After a quick look, at least the MERCS addons would be like that. Please understand that my intention is not to trample on the creative rights of addon makers but to compile a list of explicity open or permissive addons/components. I can understand that and I'm sure it was just a mistake. In fact, I found some pretty useful stuff from your lists myself too, so I appreciate your efforts. Included with other modifications is a significantly increased fuel capacity with modified main and auxiliary fuel tanks. The aircraft has modified integrated avionics suites and multi-mode radars and is intended to provide adverse-weather infiltration/exfiltration and support to US Military Forces, country teams, other agencies and special activities. The CH-47D Chinook has been specially modified to perform the special operations mission and has been tested in combat. The three versions of the CH-47 in the Army inventory are the CH-47D, the MH-47D, and the MH-47E. The MH-47D and the MH-47E are air refuelable. It provides long-range penetration, medium assault helicopter support to special operations forces. Depending on the version, it can be ferried 1,100 to 2,000 nautical miles unrefueled. During Operation Just Cause, CH-47s conducted H-hour assaults to support other elements who were air-landing SOF to disrupt enemy responses and seize key facilities. During Operation Desert Storm, the CH-47 conducted infiltration and exfiltration of SOF and CSAR of downed pilots. MH-47E testing was limited to the major change to the aircraft which affects vulnerability. I knew that I couldnt solve it in a good way but all I needed was something that worked for me so this is what I made: I made a backpack-addon and a crate-addon (learned to use O2! Its fun). When you pick up the backpack (secondary weapon) the crate that is assigned to that backpack is moved to pos [0,0,-10]. When you drop the backpack the crate are moved to the unit that dropped the backpack but are placed 1 meter below the ground so its invisible. The name of the crate is backpack so you can put weapons and ammo to the "backpack". Maybe its not so beautiful but it works for me. You can carry 4 weapons and 20 magazines in the "backpack". There is a mission also where you can see how it works. Btw, it takes some time before you can pick up the backpacks. Thats because they are created on the table ("secondaryweaponholder") and its not the addon that causes that delay! The ugly part: My scripting skills are limited so that is very basic. I know that it can be done much better. All affected units runs 10 scripts... But they are started at intervalls and then paused so they are not running atleast. You start all scripts by placing a trigger that covers all units and is triggered once by anybody and put this in the "on activation": "[_x] exec ""\ANDY_backpack\script\backpack.sqs""" I made 10(!) backpacks... ANDY_backpack_1, ANDY_backpack_2... ANDY_backpack_10 That is limiting the backpacks in one mission to 10 but it was a quick solution from me to keep the backpack-cargo to different backpacks. Thats because I use the "hasweapon" command. That way the script know where to send the crate with the right cargo. Take a look at it if this make no sense. You must place a "backpack"-crate (you´ll find it in "empty/ammo") for every backpack that you will use in the mission AND you´ll have to name the crate to "bpcrate_1" for "ANDY_backpack_1", "bpcrate_2" for "ANDY_backpack_2" and so on. Different issues I cant(?) do anything about. Ex, when you drop the crate it takes some seconds until you can take or put anything to the backpack. (But I tell myself its because of all the stuff in the backpack and a bad zipper! The backpack hangs ugly in some moves. One thing made me happy though!! When you go prone the backpack "falls" to the left and it looks like you only have it by the left strap; That is the way to do it in real life!! But lets continue with the ugly.... You can put a backpack into another backpack. Thats not unreal but when both backpacks are full it is! You can put 4 fully loaded backpacks into one.... Hmmm... Dont know what to do about that. Maybe there is a way to stop that. I dont know... The textures are made with my digi-cam and my t-shirt so they are what they are... I dont like that the "ugly part" are the biggest part of this readme... I made this for my own gameplay but if it anyone wants to use it here it is. If anyone wants to develop it go ahead, all my work related to this are in the "ANDY-backpack" folder (everything is made by me, I used the BAS-satcom config as help). Maybe you just let it go to the Recycle bin? I dont care So by this I let you use it however you want to. Work with it, use it in your releases (developed or not) or misuse it in any way. Go ahead, you dont even have to add me in your readme or anything. But I have to admitt that it would be nice to have my name somewhere but I dont think this addon will put me in the hall of fame... Zaitsev SigCommando This is a m21 that has been changed to be less powerful and acrate but more fast firing and has 30 rounds to a clip. HnK This is a MP5 that has been unsilanced and made less powerfull but more fast firing but slower bullets M249 This is a m60 that is more fast firing and more acrate when standing up AWP A m21 with faster bullets and instant kill bullets AK47 Fires only in auto and is faser but less powerfull UZI this is an AK74SU that fires very quickly and inacratly and is less power full FNP90 a XM made to fire faster and less acrate with 50 Bullets. I think the most responsible thing for me to do is remove any post that is flagged in which I have misinterpreted the author's intentions for permission free reuse of assets. In the case of the CounterStrike Weapons, I presumed that the public existence of the addon in the community for an extended period of time had established it's validity. max power 21 Posted April 24, 2011 With all due respect to Zaitsev, he may have been ignorant of the law, ownership conventions, or copyright considerations, or possibly felt that it wasn't a big deal regardless. It was a different time then. This thread seems to be all about fostering derivative works within moral limits and the demands of the /new/ community, whatever that means. It is my opinion that we should definitely be tipping our hat to the advancement the community has made in the awareness of the rights of people, whoever they are. I think you suggestion for a disclaimer is a good one. It at least takes the responsibility out of your own hands, and no one can claim that you recommended any course of action. f00bar 10 Posted April 24, 2011 I have added a disclaimer (to the best of my ability) to the first post. I tried not to make it too verbose so it will encourage people to read it. As far as I am aware, there is no "Orphaned Projects" thread for OFP like there is for A2/OA/CO. This would have been a great resource over the years to hand off any abandoned or orphaned projects to the community at large. Another possibility would have been to hand creative assets over to BIS so they could hold content in escrow so no addon maker's time would be wasted. Not that there is a shortage of user made content for OFP :) but are you aware of any repository of closed or abandoned OFP projects? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
max power 21 Posted April 24, 2011 I'm not aware of any. I think that repository idea is actually very new. I'm not aware of anything like it before that one. This thread, as you find addons with permissive licenses from OFP, will be the closest thing. I don't believe it was common in OFP to abandon a project because the timeline between start and finish was much shorter because the simpler technology demanded less from the addon maker.
