I really don't get what ppl have against the OFP graphics. Perhaps they have sucky graphics cards  confused.gif

I would always take this:

over this:

What's up with the colors btw. It looks like "Serious Sam" wink.gif

Got some questions for you:

A) What engine dose BF1942 use

B) Can it do night

C) How well dose it do rain

D) Is it pay as you play like EQ

My two cents:

The Graphics for OFP look almost real compared to BF1942 what looks like the quake engine done over again and as I stated above how well dose it do enviromental conditions.

Word up to this. I have never had a problem with OFPs graphics, in fact, after a stint with WW2OL, when I got back, my first words were, damn this game is so pretty!

I own Ghost Recon and MOH:AA. They have not been played since completing them. wink.gif

OFP still sits in the CD-ROM drive and is played almost every day. tounge.gif

Anyway .. if BF42 doesent kill itself with bugs, cheaters and poor gameplay - EA certainly will.

How many of us have upgraded our systems solely so we can experience Opf at it's finest? How many of us when buying a new graphics card don't worry how many trillion pixels a second it can shift but how well Opf plays and looks with it?

That's the testament to the greatness that is Operation Flashpoint smile.gif

Man I said it b4! OPF Is such a great game and such a great engine that u can lend it to any period of war u like (bar swords and spears). I agree with Dionyso or whatever his name is-- I badly want to play OPF but set in WWII.... or

- VIETNAM

- ZULU (Rourkes Drift anyone?)

- American Civil War

- GULF War

- The Falklands... well i'm not that bothered about the falklands but still the possibilities are endless!

+ and yes the destoyable buildings look shit.

there are some WW2 weapon addons out, but you have to tweak the config files if you want to get them realistic, MP-40 with sniper rifle accuracy at 500m range and killing with 1 shot to the foot is bad

Solely becouse of OFP I upgraded from PII 350 256MB system to Athlon XP 1600+ 512MB system. I upgraded from SB Vibra 16 to SB Adugy becouse of OFP, Just becouse of OFP i still think to upgrage my GF 2 GTS 32MB to some GF 4 Ti4600 128MB. Never before I spent so much money just to play one game (once I upgraded video card becouse of Colin McRae Rally).

Yep I get mighty tinkled off when I see crap about Opflash having washed out and poor graphics. I have YET to see one as REALISTIC as opflash graphics. Some people don't understand what the point is. We don't want a bright shiny landscape that looks like Giants or some alien world. Everything looks realistic as it should.

I agree the weakest part of opflash is the buildings. Since they're simple objects they don't have the substance to be used like buildings in other FPS's since those are made with the 3D engine itself, rather than being models.

I would like to see a new 3D engine with tunnels, craters, holes, and buildings that were made a bit better so that I don't fall through the steps of one when I try to walk up them. =)

I enjoy these threads. PEople always seem to assert that the unreleased project is gonna blow the doors off of everything living.

Realism? First off, the game in question is being marketing as an adrenaline-pumping arcade game.. Look at the pictures. Hmm... Did that flattop beach on the coral? If the japanese are that close, it's really in trouble.

And, yeah, what really nice, bright supersaturated colors.

--

Lighting and appearance: yeah, OFP has folks beat on this. The game looks good.

Houses and stuff: um, yeah, this is kinda weak. PArt of the problem is OFP's linear damage model.

The damage model: This needs some work: When a grenade on the floor kills someone in the atttic. 5 grenades knock out a m113. Buildings just crumble.

Vehicles: Uh, play a real flight sim. Or a real tank sim or something. This is pretty arcadish, although I must confess that they've done a darn fine job of making the performance envelope believable.

Mission Editing: "The most powerful mission editor available"? We'll see about that. Using OFP's impressivfe scripting language, I just wrote a 60-page realistic artillery observer simulator. Without mods I was able to add a whole new weapon system that faithful enough to the USArmy field manual it probably has an application as a training tool.

Yeah, OFP's a videogame, BA 1942 is too. But I don't see any danger of competition. If the game's what I like, I'll play it. From looking at the screenshots, I doubt I'll play it.

One weak link in Flashpoint is its sound.  They are blunt, lack the feel of atmosphere and the environment is very dead.

I played Ghost Recon, and in my opinion its sound environment is far superior.

Example:  In Flashpoint, (unless you manually insert bird singing in the editor) you hear nothing, except for the occasional fountain in the town, or a breeze which seems to be so poorly recorded.  The only thing you DO hear are the extremely annoying footsteps which have high treble levels and thus can be heard from half a kilometere away.

In Ghost Recon, not only are the footsteps almost impossible to hear beyond 50 meters, they have a greater variety of bullet ricochet sounds and plenty of ambience too.  While walking through forest you always hear the trees' leaves hum in the wind, you occasionally hear a piece of wood crack as one of your soldiers steps on it.  When you run through bushes they make the appropriate sound.

I don't know about you, but playing that first mission in Ghost Recon certainly gave me a more realistic feel of being in a sparse forest than Flashpoint ever did.

Even if one tries to edit Flashpoint's sounds he finds himself restricted.  The M60 Machine Gun sound for example is so short in duration that hardly anything can be done to change it.  If you increase the sound duration it won't play propertly in the game.  You are then forced to edit the configuration files which is a whole new headache.

It certainly seems that BIS spent the least amount of time on sounds, as guns in the likes of M2 or M60 sound like woodpeckers rather than real guns.

Oh yea, please don't recommend Satchel's or other sound packs, I've tried them all and I hardly call that an improvement.
