talk instead of radio when close - gone?

Recommended Posts

hi,

i remember earlier versions of arma 2 had the nice feature that the radio comandos/talk became direct talk when you where close to the unit that talks.

the unit actualy moved its lips and the speech came from the unit and not the radio - just like the new conversation system works.

was that feature canceled for performance reasons or should i add a ticket to cit?

this realy annoys me because it increased immersion greatly and helped to identify with my teammates ... especialy missing it in harvest red or pmc campaign :(

i hope one can understand this bad english

I noticed this a while ago, but thought i had gone insane and confused ArmA2 with Metro2033 which had the same (very cool) feature. :p

The conversation system is gone in general on all ArmA II maps and ArmA II units.

i dont mean the actionmenu conversations ("hi there!"), i mean the normal radio chat with your team ("enemy man at 12 o clock") and the story based radio chat (for example when miles talks to crossroad).

in arma 2 the units where realy talking when you are close to them, with OA its always the stereo radio chat.

Just wanted to point out that there might be a link between as both is chat that is missing now and both happens primarily with old ArmA II maps and Units. Edited by Beagle

Hi all

Direct voice seems to work fine on my system, one of the radio channels, which are change by the Default [,] and [.] keys same as typed chat, Default [Caps Lock] key is push to talk. I believe it can be turned off at client and the server, so could be either a server config or client options setting.

That said ACE with ACRE is probably a more refined solution.

Kind Regards Walker

I really don´t remember seeing that, but would be nice to have it. CIT ticket anyone? :p

That is not what he ment. Back in earlier versions the radio static coming from AI reports would decrease when the distance between you and them became less, with no static at all when you were right next to them. Now there is always a certain amount of static no matter the distance.

Im still waiting for official 1.59 patch because there was a word that some work is done in that department of the engine. If this persists in official 1.59 then its time for a ticket or a expansion of this one:

Oh, yeah I remember that one! I was wondering why all my AI were now on their Radio shouting what was going on, when I was right next to them. :|

yes now you understood my fantastic english :)

like beagle said, lets wait for 1.59 and until then i will install old arma 2 without patches and record some videos for a good CIT ticket.

i had a little testing with CO 1.57 and the feature seems to be still present but very inconsistent:

the soldier is going to speak only when i stand less than 1 meter (face on face!) away from him, but even when he speaks you can hear the radio voice and many of the spoken words are missing.

atm iam installing arma 2 1.00 and check the issue with that version - i will do demo mission and videos then.

sorry for tripple post but i have the proof now!

http://www.file-upload.net/download-3307622/Talk-Radio-Issue.wmv.html (sorry i have no youtube account :o)

i will wait for 1.59 patch to see if its fixed.

i will redo the video + repro mission and make a ticket for CIT when not fixed.

this feature was awesome and increased immersion and the connection to your teammates drastically - hopefully its not to much messed up and can be fixed :bounce3:

I always found it quite funny that every civilian you meet has your radio channel. I suppose you can't really predict where the player will be... But you'd think you'd have an objective marker and a trigger after the action if you need to talk to someone face to face after a mission, though (instead of the civvie chiming in to your military net to tell you 'good job').

I think a lot of people are confused. It's not the chat channels, it's not static, it's people (well, AI) using the "voice channel" instead of the radio channel in-game. Like, if you're within 15m of a guy, he talks instead of using his radio to transmit to you from 15m away. Would be cool if it was a default on giving orders, where, when you're within 15m or everyone you're ordering, your guy talks (shouts?) out the orders, and you get replies from everybody at once. Same for in-vehicle. But, vehicle to soldier outside, even if <2m, is still radio. unless you're "turned out".

Maybe they all have throat mics now with voice activation : )
