cartier90 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Ever since playing OFP1 , I always liked being chased by OPFOR forces. There is quite a famous single player mission in which you traversed a large percentage of the map - dodging OPFOR in order to escape to friendly territory. I quite enjoy setting myself 'impossible' tasks - like me versus 2 groups of OFPOR whilst nicking a enemy vehicle - genuinely frightening on hard settings looking out for signs of movement from 3 directions whilst they come looking for you. There is something great about 'Rambo' style missions - that sometimes 'regular' missions dont quite capture, the game engine shows just how suicidal they are in real life, but great when - with some luck, they work. .... There is quite a famous single player mission in which you traversed a large percentage of the map - dodging OPFOR in order to escape to friendly territory..... Wow, I remember that scenario. You started in a town with a small defence force. You had two choices. 1. Stay and defend the town and your life. I always died after a while. 2. Take that old shitty truck and escape. What's the name of that mission? And is there anything alike in Arma 2?
Macadam Cow 1 Posted March 20, 2011 Are you sure Posta ? This description reminds me "After Montignac" (no sure about the mission name). You know this mission where you're alone, all your squad has been killed and russian forces are looking for survivors. You have to reach a first rally point then it changes. There are soldiers, BMPs and even a Hind looking for you. Damn that mission was awesome, probably the most frightening single player moment I've ever had. Posta 10 Posted March 20, 2011 relive it ... Hmm, not the one I was thinking about. Hmm, maybe a MP-mission. Will install Operation Flashpoint again if I can find it.
kireta21 13 Posted March 20, 2011 It might be "C01Convoy", the one which started with convoy beign ambushed and you lead survivors to Lamentin, to support town defence. The longest (and most buggy :) )single mission in OFP I believe.

Something is always buggy with these games. :)
jakerod 254 Posted March 20, 2011 Another option is one that was MP. I believe it was called Lost Company or something like that. You started in a town in the south of Malden and had to defend it.

Sounds very much like the one I was talking about. MP and that you started in a town. But it was impossible to actually defend it, with any sucess that is. I recall an old truck standing there. Not very much gas but better than nothing.

Its in the town that is south of Chapoi and east of La Riviere.
pooroldspike 129 Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) The auto-generated Armory Missions are bloody hard, I only win about 1 in 3 if I'm lucky, it's just you--and you alone-- against the bad guys in true Rambo style..:) For example, choose a rifle to try, and you'll be plonked at a random spot on the map to play with it, then after a while (average 45 seconds) a message will come up offering you a mission (Attack,Defend,Survive,Steal,Hunt etc) which you can accept or decline. If you decline it, it'll offer you another mission after about 45 more seconds. The missions are auto-tailored to suit whatever weapon you chose to try, e.g. if you chose a rifle the AI enemy will be mostly infantry, and if you chose an AT-launcher or SAM, they'll be mostly AFV's or Aircraft. Sadly many newcomers don't know the Armory Missions exist. Like I said, you have to wait for about 45 secs to be offered a mission, so stick around. IMPORTANT:- You only get a few Armory weapons to play with after buying the game, and have to 'unlock' the rest by racking up points for winning armory missions later (a bit silly if you ask me), but luckily you can get instant access to ALL weapons by inserting the line armoryPoints=50000; into your profile. Here's part of my profile showing how the line looks sitting in there- floatingZoneArea=0; headBob=0.062641099; armoryPoints=50000; sceneComplexity=300000; viewDistance=2400; Waddya say Johnny? Joe98 92 Posted March 20, 2011 I too have played through the Armoury. I too only succeed in about 1 in 3. The "escape and evade" missions are a lot of fun! -

The "escape and evade" missions are a lot of fun!- Yes you need every bit of tactical cunning to stay alive, so that makes them great for training. The enemy have the nasty habit of coming at you from more than one direction at once so you need eyes in the back of your head; personally I like to put a house or big boulder behind me to protect my back, then I only need to watch my frontal 180-degree arc instead of the full 360 degrees..:)
Joe98 92 Posted March 20, 2011 I too do that. Some rocks are shaped a bit like an arc thereby protecting the left and right. One time I threw grenades over the rock in the direction of enemy footsteps and voices and got them all ! -
Pummel 10 Posted March 21, 2011 The Armory missions are the first things I played in this game. I remember the first one, having to survive for about 4 minutes. It was night so I hid behind a rock in some trees and nothing could find me. And then in the last minute a truck stopped nearby and I quickly stood up and shot it with my rocket launcher. The sight of the explosion at night time was great :) I wish Arma 2 had more interesting missions. It's a shame because the single player content is very buggy and sluggish and uninteresting, and the multiplayer is good but too repetitive. Most of the servers I can find a good ping to, all play the same missions over and over. With the ability to make your own missions, I wish there would be more creative missions... Escape missions would be awesome. Same goes for silent infiltration to steal something, and 1 man assassination missions, etc.

Same goes for silent infiltration to steal something, and 1 man assassination missions, etc. The Editor is so easy to use I'm surprised more people don't build their own missions, you can create one in less than 15 minutes no kidding. We do that over at The Few Good Men club, building a mission then putting it up for download, then we have a crack at it in singleplayer mode and compare notes about how we got on, discussing what tactics we used, posting ingame screenshots etc. Quite often its hard to win at the first attempt, and it's great fun playing it several more times (think 'addiction'), tryng new tactics and approaches until you get a win. Go here and scroll down to the FGM Armed Assault Section to see what I mean- http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/forum.php? there are currently only about 6 of us into AA2 and we welcome new members. Pummel 10 Posted March 22, 2011 Cool thanks for the link. I used to play the demo a lot and I used to make some really fun 6 man missions. It was mainly just one big tactical assault of a town or something, but they were fun. I don't see many like that now that I have the full game.
