Do infantry scounts have special ability?

Recommended Posts

If I send a scout forward, say 50 meters, does he have a higher chance of spotting enemy, compared to say, a rifleman, sent forward 50 meters?

Currently, I use myself as a scout and the get hit!

I like to keep my squad together at all times, then if they see an enemy they can all shoot at him together..:)

@Original Poster

I am not sure if the scout will do a better job seeing the enemy over a rifleman for example. I too have always wondered though if the specific classes did specific things better then the other classes.

Such as:

Scout - Infiltrating and scouting an environment better then the other classes

Pilot - Being better at flying helos and planes then other classes

Crewmen - Being better at running a tank and all its positions over say putting rifleman or AT or Medics in the tank positions.

Any word from BIS on this?

Cheers

A scout or any units with scopes, rangefinders or binoculars will have noticeably better spotting abilities.

A scout or any units with scopes, ......

That is probably the trick. In stealth mode, a man seems to be constantly looking through the scope.

I'll experiment tonight.

I really don't see any differences in the classes except for the loadout and model. Unless the equipments are used, the scout basically sees the same as the machine gunner next to you.

Or does the skills slider has anything to do with this? Hmmmm...

The scout is camouflaged, and therefore should be able to get closer without being seen.

I usually advance a scout or 2 100m, order back medic and engineers by 100m and run the main body into a target area in wedge.

The biggest thing to watch out for there is to not run the scout out of cover and into the open.

I got sick of running point myself, as I cant spot near as good as the AI...

IIRC snipers and special forces have slightly higher spotting ability defined in the config and are slightly harder to spot for other AI units. Units with gilly suits have an even better camouflage value defined.

But i think that most 'normal' infantry units all have the same values.

This is the magic thing, people. All kind of magnifying optics greatly enhance spotting capabilities. So rifle combat scopes, sniper scopes, and binoculars (as well as NVGs at night of course) improve the unit's spotting capacity. Aside from usually having either magnifying optics or NVGs (sometimes both) to make it stand out, it's just the same as any other soldier.
