rawalanche 13 Posted March 14, 2011 Hello, i am quite new at ArmA 2 and i am still getting used to the game. I have been playing SP campaign on regular difficulty and i am having big trouble detecting enemies reported by my squadmates. I found out that they usually get marked on the map, but i often just get shot while watching the map looking in which direction they are. Recently i have reached badlands mission, where i found that in high command mode, those reported enemies get marked right on your HUD. But as soon as i switch to squad mode (ctrl+space) the markers disappear. Is there any way to keep markers visible even in a squad mode, so i can spot enemies reported by my squadmates and still control my squad? Thank you in advance. Bushwaakka 10 Posted March 14, 2011 Don't know the answer to your question but when i'm having trouble locating an enemy, i'll hit spacebar, quickly scan the area with the mouse and wherever the ''attack'' command comes up, I know that's where they are. pooroldspike 129 Posted March 14, 2011 ..i am having big trouble detecting enemies reported by my squadmates. And just because your squad can see them doesn't mean you can see them, as there might be a bush or tree blocking your line of sight. To play it safe, go 'Prone' (key Z) to hopefully make yourself almost invisible and it'll give you time to look for the enemy, and time to glance at the map. grub 10 Posted March 15, 2011 You'll get used to spotting enemy in dense backdrops. Coming from Flashpoint I wasn't used to any form of clutter so when I started on A2 I couldn't see squat. I can now see even the slightest moment of an enemy. It also helps when you start to get used to what each faction looks like. Just remember to take note of what you squad is saying. You'll get used to it.
rawalanche 13 Posted March 15, 2011 Okay, thanks for your respones. Anyways i found going prone actually worse during searching for enemies, since i can's see the s**t over the grass. It is easy to lower detail settings until grass disappears, but i want my game to be a bit of eyecandy. I wonder how it works in multiplayer, when players with lower detail settings would be in a clear advantage, but lowering settings ruins your visual impression of the game.
metalcraze 290 Posted March 15, 2011 Show enemy indicator on HUD in squad mode. No. There is no magical indicator that shows you to anyone, now is it? Learn to play. This isn't a console shooter. Coming from Flashpoint I wasn't used to any form of clutter so when I started on A2 I couldn't see squat. It was the same for me in AA1 after OFP. In AA2 it only became "worse". But I got used to it, just need to find a better overview position, considering that enemies don't stay prone either

Bushwaakka 10 Posted March 15, 2011 if you're really struggling you could always get a mod to cut the grass EDIT: Gdt grass mod is a nice one
rawalanche 13 Posted March 15, 2011 Oh, by the way i was playing flashpoint for over 6 years. Then i skipped ArmA 1 and gone straight to ArmA 2 + OA since i got hardware sufficient to run the game smoothly. I do not like consoles so i don't know anything about console shooters, neither play them. Actually my point was that there IS indicator of enemy on the hud, but only when you are in HIGH COMMAND mode, and as soon as you switch back to SQUAD MODE using ctrl+space, indicators disappear. So my question was if there is a way to keep them visible even in a squad mode, not if there are any, because i am already sure there are.
mosh 0 Posted March 15, 2011 I'm pretty sure there is an option for something like this in your difficulty settings. You can adjust each option for the various difficulty settings. Although I'm not 100% sure what you mean as I have never used high command or squad indicators... I just figured I'd suggest that.
rawalanche 13 Posted March 15, 2011 I made screenshots of those indicators i mean so you can see. They disappear as soon as i exit high command mode. So its either to see them, and not be able to control your squad, or vice versa (or keep switching, which would be very annoying)
mr_centipede 31 Posted March 16, 2011 damn... try read the forum rules will ya? no images > 100kb... yours is 300kb. Anyway, the indicator in HC mode shows the location of the enmy group leader. so just use that HC mode, and return to normal mode and look for them around there. It's good just to spray around the area too. you might got lucky and kill some one. I think there is and indicator like blobs showing the enemy just like the situational awareness blobs. just go to dificulty settings and choose customize or something like that, and look for something that may look like and indicator or something... I cant remember it well
JojoTheSlayer 35 Posted March 25, 2011 You can actually get a general idea of where the AI spotted the enemy because the Oclock thing is always in regards to where you are pointing. Lets say the AI says something like enemy 9oClock, but you didnt understand the info strait away. If the enemy is still alive/not confirmed killed he will be in your target menu (2). So you can just look wherever you are currently looking and press 2. If the text then says soldier 2oClock that means the point where the soldier was seen is front right of where you are currently looking. Note: This might not be where the enemy is currently though if he has walked somewhere else by the time you check... Its just the location he was spotted. If you then do a 180 turn, close the target menu and re open it you will see that the soldier 2oClock has been changed to something like soldier 7oClock... This is because the oClock thing in the target menu updates live.
