sas troop 0 Posted March 10, 2011 I have found recently something interesting in MP missions. Me and my group are playing with ACE2, however the problem exists also on vanilla version, tested. We found vehicles are simply cheating. They see through bushes, they never loose target, they even locate our positions looong before we can see them. Once we were playing an ambush mission. Russian BMP drove from the hill. When we saw it, it was was already pointing his turret towards... sniper in ghillie suit. He was taken down with short burst from 600 metres. When we started to withdraw, I was targeted and BMP-3 did not loose me as a target even due too fact I was 200 metres deep into the woods. He was shooting through whole forest and I managed to hide behind the hill, as the bullets cut through dozen of trees and landed just near me. This is just one of many actions like this. I wonder if this is ArmA 2 bug or we failed with server settings. We have AISkill set on 0.99 and their precision is equal to 0.65. We generally didnt notice such a problem with infantry or aerial units. What's going on?
ast65 10 Posted March 12, 2011 In my experience the enemy-awareness-range is increased a lot by ACE2. In missions that are a piece of cake with vanilla I get shot to pieces from afar if I play them the same way with ACE2; requires a completely different approach :p
SigintArmA 10 Posted March 12, 2011 however the problem exists also on vanilla version, tested. He states it's present in Vanilla A2. Hrm... I wouldn't know what to think. Was the BMP spawned through script or Editor, because the Soldiers (Driver/Gunner/Commanders) skills may be low (Or high) but that can change due to the vehicle as the units skill will change to that vehicle (If I remember reading correctly a while ago) so maybe it's something the mission maker has done in scripts or spawning? My 2 cents.
Laqueesha 474 Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) He states it's present in Vanilla A2. It is. Not just for vehicles, either. For example, infantry units on "Guard" on Utes can see other infantry units on the other side of the island. Edited March 12, 2011 by Laqueesha
metalcraze 290 Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) They see through bushes, they never loose target, they even locate our positions looong before we can see them. No they are not cheating. And yes they see you through many bushes because you can see enemies through bushes too no? Bush is just a partial concealment. Hide better. They lose target when they don't see it. If you will run behind the building they will just keep tracking you as if you were running further, if they won't find you they'll start watching the building behind which you hide. And no they don't magically locate your positions. If you were spotted by a BMP - you are doing something very very wrong. In my clan we constantly play coops both on woodland and in desert with tanks and apcs against us. And we have no trouble sneaking up on them and killing them if we don't make mistakes. And we play with ACE2, yep. First people complain that AI is too dumb, then they complain that AI is cheating when it behaves like humans. I was targeted and BMP-3 did not loose me as a target even due too fact I was 200 metres deep into the woods. So what? You are perfectly seen running through the woods 200m deep by usual infantry and BMP has optics. Forests don't make you disappear into thin air you know - they are just a bunch of trees standing still. I have no trouble seeing people running among static trees 200m away, why shouldn't AI? Learn to play better and to bust your own myths play as BMP commander with AI gunner and see how he often targets something other than what you think is 100% enemy. b00tsy 28 Posted March 15, 2011 It is. Not just for vehicles, either. For example, infantry units on "Guard" on Utes can see other infantry units on the other side of the island. I notice this sometimes too. Friendly AI detects opfor AI from 300 meters, while there are several rows of houses in between them (no visible contact, only map indicator). They then start to aim in crouch mode and also do not move/follow move orders untill one of the friendly AI sais 'clear'. Only after the 'clear' they behave normally again. This I would like to see changed... that not the AI gives the all clear, but the player.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 15, 2011 It is. Not just for vehicles, either. For example, infantry units on "Guard" on Utes can see other infantry units on the other side of the island. Thats the whole point of the guard waypoint. Anyway, they only get the information from other groups if those groups actually spot enemies. Basically it just enables information sharing between groups instead of just within groups.
sas troop 0 Posted March 18, 2011 Problem touches in fact only vehicles. Both ACE2 and vanilla. @Metalcraze - Not mobile sniper in ghillie suit lying on the ground is spotted by BMP-3 when it CANT see him, as is BEHIND the good damn slope. They ARE cheating... We have server settings on 0,67 for enemy skills, vehicles set on the lowest level of skill.
