New here with a few problems and questions.

Hi everyone,

First off, have to say ArmA II is really, really nice.

I come from a Operation Reality background, but ArmA has far more weapons to choose from.

I am having a difficult time, however, when I change to map page, gear page, or even loadings in general. While in game and going to the gear section, the game seems to freeze and takes 30-45 seconds for it to load. My CPU goes between 12%-100% with the ram topping out at 70%. I'm running AMD X2 64 at 2.7 ghz, 4 Gigs of ram, and a new GeForce 430. Is my CPU running top end with this, or is there a graphics card setting I need to look into. I have mostly everything running at performance. Once the loading is done, the game runs like a champ, until I have look at the map or something.

Also, how can I make my AI squad members run a lot faster and not engage every target the spot. I lost all my members on my third mission with the Marines because they lolly gagged around.

Again, great game and concept.

i think that 2.7 GHz CPU is not good

Arma uses one core only and power from one core is important, so if it requires 3 GHz CPU and your has 2.7 it would for me mean that this might be too weak (i am not hardware expert at all)

it is my guess , i have AMD 6000+ (dual core 32 bit , 2* 3 GHz) i have weaker GPU than you, twice less memory (Nvidia GTS 250) and i have no freezing situations in Arma (however i run XP because of best performance)

How does Vista run with it. I had run the demo before with my old GT 8200, but it never froze like this. it was laggy, but changing to map, to gear, and so one didn't take decades.

Last question:

Where do I find the serial number so I can do the online confirmation instead of the CD. Also, what key code do i type in to activate with Steam? I have the Combine Operations with both ArmA II and OA.

Make sure your HDD is defragged. If you have more than one drive or partition then Arma should be installed on one that does NOT have the OS.

@Mauser

First of all have you patched up the game?

if you havent gotten Operation Arrowhead yet I recommend that since that one runs smoother than Arma2 and you can run Arma2 maps on OA aswell and it is smoother.

you can install OA directly over Arma2 btw and the newest beta makes the game alot smoother and the beta solves your problem with the AI shooting at will :)

Hi and welcome!

Im just getting back into Arma2 after a 6 month hiatus so Im no expert but what I recommend is:

Get Copy My Stance Mod http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=107058

This will ensure that your AI will follow your stance (Vanilla command doesnt include crouch which is essential imo)

Keep your men in Aware mode rather then Danger and give them a Hold Fire command if you want them to move quickly with you.

I only use Danger if I've got nowhere to go for a while :D

Vanilla Comb Ops 1.08/1.57-

Hit 'Space' to light up the squads icons along bottom left of the screen and hit '7' on the main keyboard.

Piece o' cake! A list of stance orders will come up on the left, so just select the one you want (eg 'Prone') and the boys will drop prone..:)

Hit 'Z' to make yourself drop prone too.

PS- to change formations, hit Space and 8

Arma uses one core only

thats not completely true, the arma 2 ai needs atleast 1 core in itself

I have one of those chips and it handles ArmA 2 fine.

During the loading screen expect CPU load to go to 100% as it accesses your HDD.

These maps are enormous compared to other games.

Enormous.

Expect way longer loading screens.

Defragging is your friend. Each time you install, each time you patch.

Switching between the map and the landscape render always lags. I expect you can reduce this to some extent by buying a faster GFX card with more GFX RAM. Reducing view distance in your GFX options would also help.

This is one of those great technology titles that you can really see the difference with every little upgrade you make.
