Guest Posted February 23, 2011 Thanks and yeah, I always have my fan running at 90% when playing games.

I always run more agressive fan profiles in my gpu's. Maybe that's why my old 8800gtx is still alive. 100% fan speed is why my old 8800 GT is still alive in my other computer as well. Nice tip on the baking, never hear that one. Glad you got it working again.

I had my 8800gtx run on 100% once it got over 75 degrees, with most games it did :D
rangerpl 13 Posted February 23, 2011 Try the ATI Radeon HD5770. It's not a current-generation card but it does the job. 1GB VRAM should give you decent fps in A2, it sure did for me. I had one of those but it died (my fault, not the card's fault) and I replaced it with a Galaxy GTX460. The GTX460 is a good one (got mine for $105) but it has less VRAM and seems to be a little worse at ArmA 2. There's also the HD6850 for less than $200, but I don't know if that one requires two PCI-e connectors.
Guest Posted February 23, 2011 Hehe, congrats. I know how you feel seeing a card work which died in front of you after baking it........very big WTF feeling involved. Indeed, after I baked it I made a profile in rivatuner which turned the fans to speed up to 100% when a game started. This kept my card very cool. Also, when I took the card apart before baking it I noticed the company who made the card added a shitload of cooling paste over the GPU. When rebuilding it I applied a thin layer (make sure its thick enough to contact the cooler though) and I gained like 15 - 20 degrees with it running in idle. Same in game but I also increased fan speed there so cant really say its due to the thin layer but doing both sure should keep your card cool enough for some time. And, you can do the trick just again when the card decides to test your patience, it might work multiple times.
