GITS Evolution Fallujah

I flew in the AC-130 Gunship yesterday in GITS Evo Fallujah (BTW, great job, eggbeast) for the first time. It is an amazing experience, but I was wondering what the best gunship strategy is. What speed/altitude is optimal for targeting while evading AA? As gunner I found it hard to target specific objects, like pockets of soldiers, let alone a tank. The hold-rightmouse to pan in the scope is fine, but i found it really hard to place the crosshairs precisely, even at hi-zoom where aircraft movement can throw off aiming. Usually when I pressed "shift" to "hold" the location it would be slightly off target. Pressing Shift to release the crosshairs, and then rmouse hold to rep-place the crosshair didn't help with all the moving/bumping etc of the aircraft. Of course by the time I was able to do a decent job of crosshair placement, the target was out of the field of view.

What am I doing wrong? Were we moving too fast (I think we were about 140 km/h - just below stall speed), or flying too low (we tried about 1000m, I recall, but had to go lower due to cloud cover)? Does the pilot need smoother control of the aircraft? My pilot spends a lot of time going around to make another pass, by then, of course, on successive passes, the enemy would light us up with AA like we were floats in a parade. Is a slow, steady circular orbit the best strategy? I find the target scope panning not smooth (maybe a computer lag issue on my end?) and "bumpy", which I attributed to aircraft motion. Is this normal? What is better? Flying a circle or making straight-line passes? Any tips appreciated. Or is it just really meant to be that hard? Or do I just need lots of practice? Thanks!

seems to be mostly about the script and how to tweak it - and contains over 500 postings. I was hoping someone could give me a few pointers from the Operations perspective.

I guess looking at the thread, I can install it in a test mission and do some experimentation without any hostile fire to distract me.

take the plane up yourself as a pilot then select autopilot from the action menu (at 1000m alt) - keep trying this until you get the flying circle around the target district (you'll soon learn how to position well for this first time)

next put map on and put your marker on the radio tower or centre of city

next switch to thermal view F6 i think

use mouse wheel to rapidly scroll/zoom in and out - more so with the 25mm less so with the 40mm and even less with the 105mm. for big pockets of troops use 105, for tanks use 105, for APCs and trucks (and choppers) use 40mm sabot. for close up work, helping your mates (who hopefully carry strobing devices in their backpacks - remember to toggle strobing ON in your camera view) use the 25mm and do little burst slightly offset from target - you'll get the hang of it by circling... manual pilot makes it much harder cos of lag etc between you and him and vehicle position...

you may need to toggle your view distance up a little to be sure to see well (use T/ options)

beware bad weather will disrupt your view distance

the old C130 had some bonus weapons in it for AA defence etc - this stopped working when i put in the desert one, but I have recently fixed this, just not uploaded it yet

ok i downloaded all the rh pack of weapons+plus the blazes and when i start game i get a message that GLTmod requiere uns_weap which is missing

i ignored it and started your mission i get also there, that a contend is missing but cant remember which one

anyway i suspended the mission after 1 hour and then i got back tried to resume mission and got a message that uns_weap is missing and couldnt load

was having a message on center of the screen ''sending'' .

Do i miss any file or is a bug anyone knows?

Ok just saw at expansion menu that i there was multiplayer reload fix i believe it has something to do but am not sure

hmm we don't have a problem maybe because we play on a dedi. the uns_weap.pbo is part of unsung mod and is called with the @blazes/addons/GLmod.pbo - which we have made and it edits all ofthe grenade launchers in game (including those in the unsung mod) to enable you to carry 40-50 grenades if you're a grenadier (in 5 round bandoliers). we also get the error (even when running it with unsung) but it does nothing more tha nraise the dialog box at the start normally.

you don't need this for the mission to run. suggest you take it out for now if you're running on client machine only.

in parameters you should select equipment unlocked to get the full range of weapons - the ranked ammo crates are works in progress

you should also select GITS mod DISABLED if you are not planning to run the GLmod clientside. we usually have it set ot ENABLED and then public joiners without the GL mod just get the odd config.bin error when we select the custom 5 round grenades etc from the ammo crate.

you may also notice that the russian ammo crate has all the US/UK rocket launchers, heavy sniper rifles and machine guns... as they wouldn't fit into the US crate (which has 150 weapons in it - Mk14, Mk18, M16, M4, HK, SCAR, uzi, desert eagles, etc etc

the MP5SD and any SMG that can use its ammo (e.g. all the RH_MP5's and the RH_TMP and other SMG's) can use the hollowpoint ammo we made - it has double damage 12 instead of 6 (but same muzzle velocity 350fps), so you can now kill with a well aimed single burst - something we felt was sorely lacking in the stock version. you need the GLmod on clientside for this to work.

we don't normally host the blazes mod serverside. i should have said that.

oh and btw - to experience the joy of the mod:

press T select assignments, select Ambush, and off you go

next get in the wildcat as gunner , then get out and enter as pilot, then allow it to service (after 5 secs in base)

fly to your target area for the ambush but stay 800m from the marker

right click when youre auto-hovering and you have a 30mm cannon slaved to your eye... (press F in manual fire mode)

nice 1 - you may find the side-missions (T/assignments) a little buggy when you are running your own server - they work perfectly now in MP on a dedi. in local server they sometimes fail to spawn units etc
