Dog of Wars- Can't Reinforce Army?

Recommended Posts

I'm on Dogs of War and I need some help. Specifically how am I supposed to take all those villages and go up against tanks and helicopters at the airport when I'm not allowed to reinforce my armor?

Whenever I attempt to build a vehicle of ANY kind it tells me "Can't reinforce. Gro" Yes I have the money for it. Am I supposed to buy 100 RPG soldiers and hope they actually fire them and they do damage to the tanks?

What is this airport you are attacking into?

If it is where russian army is, you are not supposed to attack them at all, but convince them to leave the mission with diplomatic manners and giving them Lopotev and enough evidence of Chedaki war crimes (enough means, you have collected them in previous missions too).

You may always return to your HQ and give away high command and let AI commander handle most of the building and sending troops. It is no-where near perfect but frees you from too much micromanagement and gives more time to complete tasks/objectives.

For village conquer buy T-72 or anything powerful enough to just go for main bunker and park next to it until it is conquered. After countdown all smaller bunkers will be conqured too and after this often empty enemy vehicles will be found in village perimeters. Build some manned ZU-53 around small bunkers so enemy has hard time retaking the village.

Did you not read my question? I said I'm not allowed to build any new vehicles. I can't build a tank because I get the "can't reinforce. Gro" message. I can only build soldiers. So what's going on?

Yes I read your question. Never heard about such a message. It must be a save that has gone bad or new bug.

I assume you have the buildings which are required for building vehicles.

What you could do without restarting or reverting. You could destroy the building and construct new one or you could give away high command for awhile and then go and take it back to see if AI can build vehicles.

I've experienced that message since the first mission where you start building your HQ.

Yes I have the required buildings and the right amount of money. But it's not letting me construct armor units or air units.

Again I since I know from your earlier posts that you play with Arma2 1.08 and you have experinced this "can't reinforce. Gro" message in both Badlands and Dogs Of War, but by googling web or searching this forum you can see nobody has ever written anything about such a message (if that is the exactly the right message and not only something very close to it). So this leads me to a conclusion that I again think this "A2 Only"-bug, meaning it will not occur when played in Combined Operations side.

Reporting it as a new issue with repro steps is the best chance to get rid of the problem or to buy Operation Arrowhead too and install A2+OA together as Combined Operations.

I've been playing Dogs Of War with OA 1.57 betas for 3 weeks now and I can buy and build BRDM-2, Shilka and T-72 with heavy armor factory and Mi-17 and Mi-24 with helipad (factory). Seems like airplanes are disabled in Dogs Of War.

The box the game came in says ARMA II Combined Operations.

I've only installed ARMA 2. I haven't installed Operation Arrowhead because it appears to be a stand alone game. So what do you mean by "A2 only" because I think I am playing the combined operations version of ARMA 2?

You are not playing Arma 2 Combined Operations if your start menu screen says 1.08. Even though the packet says Combined Operations it is just a bundle with 2 DVDs (Arma2 & Arma2 Operation Arrowhead).

If you start menu screen really says 1.08 and you have not installed the second DVD yet, then install Operation Arrowhead to default folder, even though it is standalone game it will do a merged instal with Arma2 original called Combined Operations.

Then Install 1.57 patch, which can be installed for those who have Operation Arrowhead (1 DVD) or Combined Operations (2 DVDs).

Then launch the game with new shortcut called Arma2 Combined Operations and you can play Harvest Red campaign from there too.

Arma2 patch 1.08 is a little left behind in development and they do not release betas for Arma2 original anymore. So most of people might think Harvest Red campaign works better on Arma2 because it is originally part of it and designed for it, but actually with all of those changes to engine and scripting it might work with less bugs on Combined Operations side.

For Combined Operations patch 1.57 install you can also use beta patched they release almost weekly basis with trying new fixes, improvements and features.

Beta versions have their own exe. So you can launch game as non-beta or beta with 2 separate shortcuts in your game root folder.

Playing Dogs of War within CO 1.57, I also get the "Can't reinforce. Gro" message when buying units, and basically ignored it, as my units did eventually appear. It takes a while, though. I do not understand that message, either.

There are other messages like "Building in Use" and I think that refers to the fact that a new unit is being spawned and you have to wait a minute for the spawning to complete, but I don't know.

Hanzu, is it possible to "unitize" armor or men you have just purchased so that you can command them as a single unit using High Command? That would be quite useful for several reasons, including being able to assign multiple waypoints to them, which apparently is not possible when moving selected subordinates unless they are a unit as seen in High Command mode. Correct?

For example, lets say I have a whole suite of men and armor that I have just purchased, including 2 T-72s and 2 apcs. I would like to make the apcs one unit, and the tanks another unit, and have these units appear separately in High Command mode, so that I can order the apcs to move one place, and the tanks another. Is that possible?

Also, If I have a whole bunch of units I have purchased and I do fast travel, will ALL those units come with me? I've never tried that. That could be very handy in Dogs of War.

I have never seen that "Can't reinforce. Gro" message, but now that KiloVenom with 1.08 and you (OMAC) with 1.57 both have had it. My best quess is that that message appears when you have maximum friendly units in the map (assuming there is such a limit). After one or more units gets destroyed, you are again under the limit beeing able to buy units. This would explain why I have not seen that message, since I only buy few units to minimize possibility of old and new bugs appearing. Why choosing that kind of words for that message makes no sense to me, but the place where that message appears has unfinished design and there is no room for full lenght message text which could be something like this: "Can't reinforce. Ground units maximum limit exceeded."... again just a guess. Why I assume there would be such a limit in this game? There is this old strategy game from year 1999 called Total Annihilation where you construct units to do warfare and it had a limit of 500 units, because game engine and multiplayer protocol could not just handle more than that. With 3rd party modifications players removed that limit and the result was players build too many units and the game slowed down to a slideshow and the whole game ran with unplayable slow speed. If somebody knows for sure there are no such limits in Arma2 Bandlands and Dogs Of War missions, just tell and I have to assume another theory. It would be so much easier if the official mission developers would have time to read these messages immediately telling us right answers, but that only happens rarely and so we have to bare with assumptions from people like me. ;)

As far as I know all new units that are bought, will join your team and there is no way making them available in high command. I've seen this beeing asked several times, but so far no-one has proven me to be wrong about it beeing impossible. However there are some new key combination functions added in beta patches that might be helpful:

[78153] New: Ctrl+F1..Ctrl+F5 assigns unit to team red/green/blue/yellow/white.

[78150] Changed: Shift-F1..Shift-F5 select corresponding color team (red/green/blue/yellow/white)

I have never used fast travel and I'm not sure if it is even available in multiplayer where I play campaigns, but without fast travel those bought units will do their best to follow you everywhere. I have seen infantry men running kilometers to stay with me and my vehicles and reaching them when vehicles have been stopped long enough. But maybe only units that are inside your vehicle will fast travel with you. If you do some tests for this, please let me know also how they behave, with high possibility they are just left behind to another the place where you started fast travel or at least the units that follow you must be able to advance with same maximum speed you have.

Thank you, Hanzu! I can't bear going back into Badlands and Dogs of War to do some testing for a while, as they were so painful to get through the first time. I'll be sure to post back if I find some answers.

Being able to "unitize" purchased units would be a very important improvement, and I hope BI looks into that.

Your idea about the Can't reinforce.Gro message seems very plausible to me. I think you are correct, as I remember that when I saw that message, no units would show up when you try and buy them. One time I tried to buy a transport chopper and got that message - none showed up. But then I realized that the chopper that appeared to take us back to base after capturing Lopotev was sitting in the nearby field, and I used that one. So, maybe you can only have one such chopper at a time? Sure seems that way.

There is a massive Warfare2 wiki site:

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Warfare_2_Manual#High_Command

Do we have to memorize all that to use Warfare2? Ugh. Perhaps that wiki is just for Multiplayer? I hope so, so I don't have to wade through it.

Exactly what I think about those missions. It truely was painful experience with all the crashed, bugs and messed up savegames. I'm not going back there as long as there is any official mission that I have not yet completed. :)

You can always add feature request in CIT and see if it gets votes and added some day.

That helicopter is sligtly different version called Mi-17 (Civilian). You can buy Mi-17 and Mi-23. I bought four of those Mi-23 simultaneously and they appeared there to fill the surroundings, so if there is a limit it is not based on unit type but on their total number.

Thanks. Might read it fully some day. I wish they would use real exact model names and not terms like "main battle tank".

Based on what I already know on real Warfare2 gamemode I would call Badlands and Dogs Of War to be Warfare2 (Lite), since they do not have all same features than real Warfare2 missions.

Well I finally returned to playing this game after a break. The patch did help my reinforcement issue. And I think you're right about the message. After building a few units I starting getting the "Can't Reinforce. Gro" message. Which, like you said, probably means "...Ground units at maximum" or something like that.

Can you please make a CIT ticket with repro steps.

The full text message is:

<Key ID="strwfcantreinforce">

<German>Keine Verstärkung möglich. Gruppe hat maximale Größe!</German>

<English>Can't reinforce. Group is at max size!</English>

<Italian>Impossibile rafforzare gruppo, dimensione max!</Italian>

<Spanish>Imposible reforzar. ¡El grupo está al máximo!</Spanish>

<French>Impossible de renforcer. Groupement à taille max.</French>

<Czech>Nelze posílit. Skupina má maximální sílu!</Czech>

<Russian>ЧиÑленноÑÑ‚ÑŒ отрÑда уже макÑимальна!</Russian>

<Polish>Nie można przysłać posiłków. Grupa ma maksymalną wielkość! </Polish>

<Hungarian>Nem lehet megerősíteni. A csapat mérete már a lehető legnagyobb!</Hungarian>

I just tried to repro this. After I had bought over 300 Crewman to join Razor Team. I gave up and never saw that "Can't reinforce. Gro(up is at max size!)"-message.

Could that max size depend on difficulty because I tried to repro it with Recruit difficulty (so no enemy would bother my repro test)?

Or could it there is no limit how many infrantry units you have, but if you try to buy as many vehicles you will see that message?

So OMAC also got this with 1.57 patch and I can't imagine BIS would have suddenly removed or increased the max size in the latest patches.

BTW. With having 300+ intantry man lined in V formation behind you made the game really slow. I can't imagine anyone playing this mission with so many.

Ok thanks PvPscene.

I will not try to repro it anymore, but if someone else even manages to get that message with 1.58 or newer, reply here and tell me how many units approximately you got when it showed up.

BTW. That window or whatever sees to have room for 20 characters only. See how many characters there are for those non-english languages. What were they thinking...

Yes. Maybe they could use a smaller font size? I, also, have never seen the Can't Reinforce message for anything other than vehicles. In A2, I think 4 BRDMs is the max.

I think I'm going to give up on this campaign. I was wrong about my initial thought that the patch worked. All I have is 1 T-72 that I built. I may have 1 or 2 UAZs and maybe a BMP left out on the battle field somewhere. Is that really too many vehicles? I even purposely destroyed my own tank to see if I could then build another vehicle. I couldn't. I'm allowed to build troops but no vehicles... and I have over $100,000 dollars.

hmm, never met that problem...I built a dozen of T-72 and gave them to AIs

and I didn't even use my units to defeat enemy main base, I sent USMC M1s to deal with them.

Hi All -

I encountered the same problem as the OP. I have Arma 2 1.6 from steam. After getting this message when trying to buy units in the badlands mission, I messed around for a bit and finally got a workaround by doing the following:

1. Go to buy units dialog

2. SINGLE click the unit you want to build

3. Click the "Add empty" button at the bottom of the dialog.

This works and builds you a new vehicle. Why? The vehicle is delivered without any crew, so I think previous posters surmising that there were two many units on the map were correct. If you want crew for the new vehicles, assign some crew that you already have to the new vehicles. My squad seems to be full with the four guys from razor and 8 crew members from BRDMs I bought. I guess if you were hoping to have many vehicles built and crewed by non-razor members, then this might not help you. But.... just think of the nightmare you're saving yourself by not having to control that many crappy AI drivers! ;)

Well that "bug"? is still prominent even with the latest patch (1.11) with Steam. I've only encountered it in the Badlands mission when playing on the CDF side but as transact said it might save you the control of all those crappy drivers which they are btw. :D

I have 1.11.86734

I got this bug both in this and Badlands. "Can't reinforce" "Add empty" does work though. Additionally, there doesn't seem to be a unit limit, if I click on teams, it says Qty 32/12.

Also, pritzrak is killed even though I chose not to do that in Badlands.

I will try installing Operation Arrowhead.
