amos m 0 Posted May 12, 2002 I think that leaning would be a great feature to incorporate into a future version of ofp. It would be very useful, especially to those that play mp. There are many mp missions, ctf and the likes, that are based around villages, and sometimes it would be useful to be able to check around a corner without running blindly, or having to walk out into the open. Even to hide behind a tree and take a lucky shot around it at your attackers who have you pinned down. It could even be incorporated without applying it to a new button too. I was thinking it would be good to have it on perhaps the use key, which is kinda traditional for the lean function anyway, and in this case is the middle mouse button. You could then use the traditional strafe keys to lean, but I was thinking it would also be good to be able to just use the mouse to lean, as you don't generally turn if you're leaning, and if you did you would only really be turning your head, which you could do in ofp by holding alt. What do ya reckon BIS?
ralphwiggum 6 Posted May 12, 2002 well, first, OFP already is running out of keys to use, second, mouse wheel is used for accessing action menu. if they implement it, i think it'll be in for of a new key, or Shift+some key.
ALDEGA 0 Posted May 12, 2002 I've got plenty keys left
Yahiko 0 Posted May 12, 2002 For simply looking around corners I use 3rd person view. Works the same and also gives you slight peipheral vision. And they fixed it while in bushes so there's no way to check your surrounding while hiding deeply in a bush.
Satchel 0 Posted May 12, 2002 I´d like to see a lean left/right option too in OFP, and requested it a couple of times in the past, but my guess is that it won´t be implemented. What gives, i´ll wait for Raven Shield, it not only has a lean right/left command- in addition you can alter the speed at which a peek is conducted, and vary the height at which it is done..making it more realistic, and unpredictable for your foes in which position you will show up next...nice . IceFire 0 Posted May 13, 2002 Well, this is what I would like to see: You would be hugging the corner and poking only your head and gun around the corner to take shots while having minimal exposure. I think I've seen pics of this. You could crouch and do it too. I think the best way to this is to walk all the way up to the wall by keeping on pressing forward, and then you will automatically be hugging the wall. Then you can strafe left or right to implement the movement, and then you will be sticking your head and gun around the corner. This would also work for cylinders or large poles like the kind in front of large white courtrooms.

IceFire 0 Posted May 13, 2002 It would just be automatic. You would press up against the wall automatically by walking into it, and as you reach a corner, you automatically move your head and weapon around with you! See? Very simple.

amos m 0 Posted May 18, 2002 It could get a little annoying when you're running through a forest though.
IceFire 0 Posted May 18, 2002 Then I guess we will just have to get used to manuvering and running around them. Not too hard.
amos m 0 Posted May 19, 2002 but everytime u do run into a tree, by chance or accident, you press against it and stop moving. That feature worked in Metal Gear Solid because it's a 3rd person perspective game. And that type of implementation would seriously limit the use of this type of action in this type of game. Say, perhaps you're lying in a bush. You think you see someone up ahead, but they move out of view a little. You want to see around the bush in front of you that's restricting your view. You're gonna have to find a wall to press up against, or you could use your "lean" button and just lean to the side where you lay and find where that guy went. dayglow 2 Posted May 19, 2002 Yeah, I can see the problem that you are stating. I don't know, if there were leans keys I probably would use them. Right now my 'q' and 'e' keys (wasd set up) are set to glance left and right and it really helps with my SA, would I map them to lean? Guess I would have to experiment a bit and see which I would use/need more. COLINMAN
amos m 0 Posted May 19, 2002 I remember when I was watching on the tele the live shit about the september 11 attack. They had the names scrolling on the bottom of the screen of the ppl who were aboard the planes, and I distinctly remember seeing the name Chevy Chase. Was this a mistake, someone else.....or was he one of them? (The pause was due to the fact that Chevy Chase is a pretty original name) Also, what about those S11 protests? I haven't heard of them much lately. Are they still active, ceased, or have they changed the name in fear of being associated with the September 11 attacks? Fairly odd coincedence that. S11. Against globalisation, monopolisation and corporate power. September 11, an attack on the World Trade Center. I'm not trying to stir up any conspiracy theories here either, I just find it....almost humorous.
Placebo 29 Posted May 19, 2002 Eeeh? Unless I'm missing something I'm not sure what 11/09 has to do with this thread? Anyways no Chevy Chase did not die in Sept 11th, according to us.imdb.com he has 3 films out or due out this year so would be kinda hard to do if dead AFAIK the most "famous" person to die on Sept 11th was David Angell, the executive producer & writer of Frasier and Cheers amongst others, he and his wife were aboard one of the planes flown into the WTC.
