LOD? problem: objects disappear when I look away

I have a problem that I think is fairly common, but I can't find the thread or devheaven ticket.

In the OA engine, buildings and trees, even vehicles and occasionally people, vanish when I turn my back. When I look back again, they aren't there for a second, when the game decides to draw them. When framerates are very low, this will happen even in directions I am facing in. The game stops showing many objects on the map. Even on Utes with a good framerate, if I look through a scope, the hanger in my peripheral vision will vanish, and I will be able to see the people hiding behind it when I glance over there.

This ruins immersion and can result in cheat-like gameplay. It is a huge issue and I want to make sure that it is at the top of BIS' priority list.

Of course, problems are never solved if they apply only to individuals, so does anyone have links to the devheaven ticket, or know anything about fixes, developer acknowledgment of progress?

Have you attempted to defrag your HDD or OC your hardware? That seems like they're trying to optimize the performance with not rendering props that are out of FOV. As in your case the optimization doesn't work and as such it is way too slow to load the props and you see them appearing. You've got slow loading times too? Any optimization mods?

I'm not overclocked and Steam tells me that my file fragmentation is 0%.

That sounds like good advice, but simply speeding up loading times naturally probably won't do the trick. The game makes the decision to simply not draw entire villages when framerates are low enough, and they may stay invisible for a good ten seconds. I need BI to tell me how to get the game to stop this optimization crap, because let me tell you, it's doing performance know favors, just providing me with wallhacks,

I'm afraid that this issue is not that "common" as it might appear to be for you.

I haven't heard only someone telling about this so far, and I believe they made the video you referenced. Please list your full computer specs - you might be beyond minimum requirements or otherwise have a bottlenecking component.

Maybe model details set too high?

Plz also tell us your ArmA2 video options advanced settings. Looks like the streaming engine cant keep up with your ingame movements because theres a bottleneck in your system. Could also be a gfx driver. Could be anything.

Yes, my specs are too low, but it seems like I want to play with low FPS that's my business. The game runs fine on the right maps, yet the OA engine is deciding to stop drawing objects. I'd rather take the FPS hit, if it's an optimization issue.

Edit: ExThreads=2, plus a refresh of my config file, appears to have fixed the LoD issue. It may have killed my framerate, but maybe that was just a bad benchmark run.

It was also necessary to keep maxmem=2047 activated.

My last ATI card did the same thing. It was a HD5970. I would turn around and see stick figures, green blobs for trees and brown blocks for tanks. What a piece of crap that card was. I bet it wouldn't do the same thing with an Nvidia card of the same performance level.
