Aculaud 0 Posted May 8, 2002 I found this model of the barrett M82A1 on the Legends Hobbies site (Yes, i am buying the USMC force recon guy and the USMC sniper. Pathetic as it may be, i still want my toys! ), and i personally dont think this looks very real, but i could be wrong: Is Barrett not telling me something? theavonlady 2 Posted May 8, 2002 It's not over at Barrett! Looks like some custom gun stock replaced the original.
Aculaud 0 Posted May 8, 2002 yeah, i dont think those are standard models, if they do exist. Looks like a model 95 with a backwards pistol grip in the front and a modified stock.
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted May 8, 2002 Doesn't look real at all. It kind of resembles the M95 as Aculaud stated. Tyler
Aculaud 0 Posted May 8, 2002 cant imagine whatever that is to be very comfortable to fire
USSoldier11B 0 Posted May 8, 2002 This is a actual Barrett model. It was only produced the first couple years after the company started. As you can see it had a bullpup design, which was meant to give the rifle a shorter perceived length and make it less front heavy so it can be fired off hand. Aculaud 0 Posted May 8, 2002 wow.......So what happened to make them standardize the newer models? Was it just too impractical a design or something?
USSoldier11B 0 Posted May 8, 2002 I didn't sell very well. Barret used to have pictures of it on thier site. Now they have removed them as the rifle fades into history. I would like to get my hands on one because it will be worth alot of money some day. The problem is that I'm left handed and that thing would spit a red hot .50 BMG casing right into my face. I doubt that they ever made a lefty model.

From the looks of it, the shooter would put his shoulder in the curve right behind the magazine well because there is no butt-stock at the very back-end of the weapon. This kind of design would be almost impossible to fire from any position other than the prone. It might be possible but it would be very uncomfortable. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The problem is that I'm left handed <span id='postcolor'> Sucks to be a southpaw!, no Steyr AUG or SA80 for you then. Do you use a left-handed bolt on your Remington?
Mister Frag 0 Posted May 8, 2002 It looks like the rifle in the picture also predates their recoiling barrel design, which means it would kick like an angry mule. Combine that with the nearby muzzle brake, and I doubt it is pleasant to shoot. On some rifles I really like muzzle brakes, and they make for a more pleasant and relaxed shooting experience, but .50's aren't on that list -- you seem to get a choice between harsh recoil and a voilent muzzle blast. For those of you who haven't been around a .50 with a brake on it, you haven't lived until you've felt and heard the blast. BTW, I don't see what the use is of shooting one of these things from anything but the prone position, unless it is some other supported shooting position. IceFire 0 Posted May 8, 2002 Cool is it made out of real metal?? I reccomend some 21st century toys figures. Theirs are good quality. But the only ones that I think are better are "Blue box".
IceFire 0 Posted May 8, 2002 Nevermind, I'm just trying to flush down that flame-war producing "Pim Fortuyn" thread.

Think of an urban invironment (or any for that matter) where you *have* to prop the gun up on top of a stone wall to shoot it, you would still have support but you would have to stand to fire with it. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">For those of you who haven't been around a .50 with a brake on it, you haven't lived until you've felt and heard the blast.<span id='postcolor'> Does a .50 BMG count? Well, I didn't 'feel' the blast per se, but it was pretty damn loud and it tore down a cinder-block wall at 200m with ease. Very cool indeed, unless you are on the receiving end. Thats gonna be fun setting up scenes with those things. I figured the USMC force recon guy would make a perfect spotter for the sniper.

Aculaud 0 Posted May 9, 2002 it is a pretty impractical design, especially compared to what Barrett's up to nowadays.
