twirly 11 Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) I have been using this little script (included in the demo) to get my AI choppers off the ground in some pretty tight spaces. Maybe it can help others as well. A demo mission can be found at the link below. It's not an ideal demo because.... Where's a bloody tight spot when you need one? But you'll get the idea. http://www.mediafire.com/file/55dq2kf9hxh2ld2/Test_Helo_Tight_Take_Off.utes.zip It is forcing the helo up....so might be a bit jerky on different spec machines. No jerkiness here on three different machines....but they are all roughly the same spec. Your mileage might vary. Play with the timing of the loop and adjust accordingly. AZCoder 921 Posted October 20, 2010 I could have used this script a month ago, LOL :) I have an Mi-24 taking off from an island, and he was smashing into a tree 80% of the time. I finally just changed his initial direction and that nonsense stopped. Your script looks very nice, easy to read, thanks for posting.
twirly 11 Posted October 20, 2010 I actually just made a change to it.....there was no need for the _yvel variable. This was to give the helo a little forward motion...but is really not necessary and the variable wasn't used. The demo has been updated with the change. HateDread 13 Posted October 20, 2010 I haven't tried this yet, but is there an option for landing too? Like, landing exacting on a certain pos using the same ideas? Would be harder because you can't just fly down like you can up; you'd need to know height and gradient. Hmm... might be too ridiculous :p
jamesf1 0 Posted October 20, 2010 Uhh... Mando Heliroute? In my experience, you can get a chopper to land pretty much anywhere with it :)

twirly 11 Posted October 20, 2010 The name of the script is "vertliftoff.sqf".....no other name. It's not a masterpiece!
HateDread 13 Posted October 20, 2010 Haha okay, it's just all the scripts in my archive have a name, such as 'Mando Heliroute', 'Flak', etc. Just gave you a chance to name it, that's all...
