Civilan weapon

Recommended Posts

OK guys, I'm looking to get a weapon for hunting (feral goats and pigs mainly), what would you recommend?

(Note: as I live in Australia, semi-auto weapons are not an option, either are pump-action shotguns. So lever action or bolt action rifles are probably what I'm looking at.)

Anyone with hunting experience, let me know...

Is your hunting going to be close-in, or are you going to shoot at a distance? If the former, I'd say get a Winchester Lever-Action such as the Model 94. Otherwise, get a scoped bolt-action, like a Remington 700.

Get a Remington 700 or 710

They're very inexpensive, and the ammo is plentiful.

Why does australia BAN semi-autos!?! Otherwise you could get an M16, which is perfect for hunting small game, and target shooting. And it's not exactly lethal, so I don't see why they would ban with such predijust.

Definitely a Remington Model 700 PSS or VS. Both are the same price but the PSS is a true sniper rifle. Also great for varminting. PSS comes chambered short action in .233 (5.56 NATO) and .308 (7.62 NATO) and long action in .300 Winchester Mag. I would go with a sort action because ammo is cheaper. I have a 700 PSS in .308 and love it. It will shoot sub MOA out of the box and can easily be modified. I set my trigger down to 2 lbs from the shitty 8-9 lb factory setting. Any lower and you need to buy a match trigger. Runs about $120.00 U.S. Rifle cost me $700.00. Tactical scope mounts $70.00. High grade tactical scope rings $90.00. BSA 6-24x Illuminated Mil dot reticle scope $130.00. A cheap scope that is excellent because BSA doesn't have a huge market. For more serious shooters (i.e. your life depends on it) I would suggest a Leupold MkIV tactical. Runs about $1500 ouch! IOR also makes great tactical scopes.

Don't get a 710. It's a cheap piece of shit. I broke the bolt handle off one looking at it at a gun shop. mad.gif

It was Remington's attempt to make a poor man's high performance 700 type rifle. Stick with the classic design, you'll be happier.

Winchester model 70 Stealth is also a great rifle.

Tikka makes good rifles

Sig Arms also makes good rifles

Styer Scout, expensive but great!

FN Police Special is great sniper rifle but 700 PSS is better.

Stay away from:

Browning A bolt

Remington M710

get the .50 caliber Desert Eagle. It will not only kill the animal, but tenderize it as well.

if pump-actions are illegal i doubt a .50 pistol will be legal!

If Australia bans semi-autos, odds are that pistols are banned too.

[edit] He said shotguns are banned sad.gif

So no Mossbergs for him.

Wait, I got a question about American law.

Can you buy an M-16A2 for personal use?  I heard that Automatic weapons are illegal.  But M16A2's are only Semi Auto, I don't know if they really have burst.

And what about AK-47/74's?  Are you allowed to have one of them?  Because I have heard of people owning them despite the fact that they are fully automatic weapons.

Majority of American states do now allow personal firearms without a permit, and obtaining one is quite hectic. States like Nevada, Montana and such do allow personal firearms. Though I don't think they allow fully automatic ones.

Yes M16A2 has a burst mode. The original M16 as well as the M16A1 had full automatic modes. The burst mode was introduced to the M16A2 as it was considered to be more efficient method and it's thought to save ammo.

Though is is legal to own M16A2 in those states ? I believe it is, though they are not sold at the same prices as the military buys them for ($580 or something like that) I know I've seen gun stores in Nevada sell the Mp5 for around 2 grand, considering the military gets it for around $900 or so. I also doubt that Colt Firearms of America sells M16A2 rifles to gun stores. Most of M16A2 rifles that gun stores sell were imported from south Vietnam and other places where they are easy to obtain.

What? When I want a gun I just go to the gun shop and buy one. They do a background check that takes about 1/2 hour. There are really no laws in the U.S. regarding a private transfer of a firearm. That is why gun shows are so popluar in the U.S. Here you can own anything as long as you have the money. To purchase a class III firearm (i.e. any auto, burst, SMG, or sawed off shotgun) you have to purchase a special tax stamp which is $300.00 per weapon. You must register the firearm and give fingerprints to the BATF (quasi-Gestapo organization that is unconstitutional). Prices on class III weapons are highly inflated. It is much cheaper to buy say, an Armalite AR-15. Yes, here in Colorado I could go to a gun shop and purchase a real M4A1 carbine if I wanted to. Since I have law enforcemnt connections it would be easier for a person like me to purchase full auto weapons.

Gwhahahahaha! Where do you get this stuff?Armalite, Bushmaster, Olympic Arms, Rock River Arms, and Les Baer are just examples of a few companies that produce large quantities of AR type rifles in both semi and semi/burst trigger groups. It is easy to get your hands on this stuff. (If you have a clean record that is) Love that second Amendment.

I'm looking for a good pistol in any of these calibers: 9mm, .40cal and .45cal.

Which reminds me. My uncle has a friggin .50caliber rifle. He took it out to the range and was told to never bring it again because the sound was literally shaking the whole range.

My greatest experince with a weapon was firing a WWII bazooka at a rock.

(Which I am sure is not legal. I still wonder how he gets all the weapons he has)

Well, it's insanely expensive, but I'm sure it's worth every single penny, and it's also bolt action:

<span id='postcolor'>

Here are my top three picks for each caliber

9mm:

#1: Browning Hi-Power

#2: Glock 19

#3: Any CZ 9mm is good and cheap.

.40 S&W

#1: HK USP 40

#2: Glock 22

#3: Any Sig Sauer

.45

#1: HK USP 45 or USP 45 Tactical

#2: any Kimber 1911 (Kimber CDP is a beauty, but expensive)

#3: any Springfield Armory 1911

Stick with a 1911 design for a .45, they are the best. HK USP models are based on the Hi-Power action. Great design. 1911 and Hi-Power are best designs ever.

If you are going to beat up your gun, go with a Glock. They can fire extremely dirty, have cheap parts, and are easy to fix.

I personally like the .40 S&W load. With different grainages you can match the performance and utility of the 9mm Luger, .357 mag, and the .45 ACP.

The Browning sucks big time for cleaning.

As for 9mm, I can recommend a Walther P99. I own one and it is a really good gun. Actually anything from Walther is good IMO.

REALLY??

Cool!!

I wanna get an MP5!!!

Ofcourse I don't see the practical value of guns other than hunting and defence.

Oh well. Maybe one day an angry tribe of cannibals will try to attack my home!

Also, suppose I am not a resident of Colorodo.

Would I still be able to go in there and get like say an M16 or MP5 without a permit if I were 21?
