Scarecrow101 10 Posted August 29, 2010 Hello everyone, new to the forums here and I have begun to realize a problem with the game. It seems AI and Players like to get in a Heli and transport a tank. Instead of transporting it, they use it to blow stuff up... They shoot from the tank with the heli in the air transporting it. The worst part is if you do take out the heli then the tank survives and begins to rampage in the area it was dropped at. I am pretty sure that if a tank was to be transported by a helicopter and the tank shot while in the air, it would throw the helicopters balance WAY off. Just thought maybe people could take a look and tell me what they think, I don't find it fair. I suggest myself that Bohemia Interactive just makes it to where the tank is disabled while flying. Daniel 0 Posted August 29, 2010 Name a helicopter in this game that is realistically capable of transporting a tank in the first place. ;)
Jelliz 10 Posted August 29, 2010 That isnt a function BIS designed, it is something that the mission designer made. (Was this on Domination? Even more obvious, a public server?) Besides that, it would be cool if BIS could code this into the vanilla game.(With reasonable functionality, Blackhawks cant lift M1A2's for example)
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) No choppers in the game can even lift a Stryker, weighing in at 17 tonnes. CH-47D is rated at empty weight at 10 tonnes and max takeoff weight at 22 tonnes, leaving 12 tonnes (as the theoretical absolute best scenario) for any additional weight. Even if it could, it would become a problem in Takistan with its high altitude and high temperatures. That's the unrealistic part number one. Number two is being allowed by script to slingload items with personnel onboard. Will fix that in my own, thanks for the exploit warning. And no, I don't allow Stryker lifting either :p Edited August 30, 2010 by CarlGustaffa
polar bear 10 Posted August 30, 2010 It would be nice if the game rated helicopters by load carrying ability and made this more realistic. I also agree that you should not be able to carry any vehicle with people inside it.
maddogx 13 Posted August 30, 2010 Realism issues aside, the exploit as described by the OP is pretty freaking hilarious. In other games you get geometry glitches and stat padders, in Arma2 you get quasi-flying battle tanks. Insane! :D Of course, fixing this problem is down to the appropriate mission designers, since they are the ones who added the airlift feature.
TechnoTerrorist303 10 Posted August 30, 2010 Any server that has lifting things above the max lift weight of the chopper concerned isn't worth playing on because it will be full of people who do exactly what the OP describes, funny as it may be.
jdmt 12 Posted August 30, 2010 CH-53 can lift the LAV-25, but BIS didn't give us a CH-53E.
Daniel 0 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) Aye, the Chinook just misses out. Interesting reading up on the CH-53E, didn't realise it could lift that much. Edited August 30, 2010 by Daniel
Tozmeister 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Sometimes its a Tunguska being lifted. Making a combo package substitute AC-130. Kids these days...
