Plimmy 0 Posted August 29, 2010 Can anybody explain why there is such a large difference between Arma2 1.07 and OA 1.54. I have been playing mainly OA but decided to play some Arma2 SP and MP. All I can say is wow........what a difference. The game is so much smoother, especially considering it had to draw more objects ie... trees. There is obviously some performance increases in 1.07 compared to other patches, why is this not in the latest version of 1.54 OA. BTW I use the same settings in OA as A2. Zipper5 73 Posted August 29, 2010 Do you play with a high post process setting in OA? I can't recall at which level it activates, I think it's high or very high, but you'll be then using SSAO, a feature which Arma 2 does not have on its own. SSAO is very demanding on a system. Perhaps that's where your problem lies?

Well, i play arma2 sp in CO, and generaly i have better performance (slightly, like 5 %) with AO. So to me 1.54 AO is better than 1.
Windexglow 10 Posted August 29, 2010 I'm loving the ground impacts - maybe I just never noticed them before. http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7749/arma2oa2010082811313524.jpg

So to me 1.54 AO is better than 1.07 Thats not really testing like for like. You have to run Arma2 from the Arma2.exe to see the difference. Ie.... not from the CO.exe or shortcut. Also I run both Arma2 and OA (or CO) with post process set to the minimum. I just hope that they can put the same performance increase in 1.07 into OA patches. Well, i get better fps (2 on average), benchmark 1, running CO, than running 1.07 i use launcher anyway....my clans server is ARMA2 + ace, and mostly i play arma2 (just arma 2 + ace). I get less stuttering with CO or arrowhead, played with core settings an exthreads2, and for me CO runs better.
Steakslim 1 Posted August 29, 2010 In the beta patches leading up to 1.54, the dev's changed something in the way memory is handled. Upon that particular beta patch I noticed a more stable framerate, perhaps it even increased a bit compared to previous betas and the performance remained there-after. I dunno if that had anything to do with it but that was of the more significant changes involved I think along with the exthreads parameters. Edit: Oops misread the first post. I'd say what Zipper said about the SSAO, otherwsie I haven't seen any improvements that ArmA2 1.07 had over the current 1.54 and later beta patch.
goguapsy 10 Posted August 29, 2010 I don't like it how they added the BAF music with low samples... You use the Jukebox module and you get low quality songs... Any way to disable BAF songs with jukebox?
sic-disaster 291 Posted August 30, 2010 The framerates in stock ArmA 2 are better for me too, than in OA. It's strange considering the terrain in OA is a lot less dense, yet somehow the desert is more intensive than the heavily forested Chernarus. But when i load Chernarus in OA it feels heavier too, than in stock ArmA 2. Something is definitely off. In both applications i have the exact same settings. Smurf 12 Posted August 30, 2010 the same settings is the major mistake , for example post processing is not the same at all ...explained to detail here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=101040 One said that the SSAO option would have a separate option to de\activate. Can confirm?
goguapsy 10 Posted August 30, 2010 Hey guys I have a question, I don't know if it's just me, but with Arma 2 OA when I ask "Have you seen any targets?" to an AI they just answer "Yes I saw something". Just that, they don't say what... If I ask again they ask me if I'm kidding them XD or that I asked that "just now". Help please? It's important for a mission I wanna do! S-M 10 Posted August 30, 2010 Ohh i was not aware that A2 and OA were not the same for Post Processing. I must have missed that bit, checked my game and i had it set to very high, knocked it down for a decent performance boost :D Then i tried it disabled, and to be honest, i felt like i could play it like that with no problems at all, so i left it off completely :p
