Prydain 1 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Reviewers are, to me, an icon of (what I like to call) the Harry Potter generation. The the number of people I know who have never read another book other than Harry Potter can be compared to the gaming industry's consumers too. How can they know any better than to play a dull, unimaginative and technically inferior game like Halo when they don't know any better? To put it simply, the reviewers can't be objective or properly weigh up merits of a game when they don't know or care about actual good games and I have never read a review that alludes to the writer knowing anything about anything. CameronMcDonald 146 Posted February 5, 2011 i don't hold much value in reviews except by players and Good Game a show on the abc. I don't hold much approval for Good Game after they got rid of Junglist. I could spew bile about that for at least 10 posts and still run out of characters. Haven't watched a single episode since. ...and this is the best review for any game I have ever seen. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/558516
andersson 285 Posted February 5, 2011 I read reviews when I'm interested in a game, I try to read between the lines and not believe what the reviewer writes as true for me. Even subjective opinions can help me to get a better picture of game. Many reviewers compare it to other released games and its not hard to make some kind of profile about him. When you know what he likes you can take his opinions from that perspective. So if he likes simple action games and think a game is too complex or hard it can mean that it might be interesting. If he think its improved becasue of intuitive controls it might mean that its dumbed down. And so on. I dont put much value in a review, but you can get some useful information out of it. If it do makes me interested (regardless of what the reviewers verdict is), I continue to gather information on forums. When its obvious that the reviewer is payed to make it all good, or when its just a copy-paste job, then its worthless as its not even reflecting the views of an idiot. Then I just look at the pictures, unless they are art or photoshopped.
