Development-tools will be released in near future

Recommended Posts

I read this today at <a href="http://www.operation-flashpoint.de/news.php

This" target="_blank">http://www.operation-flashpoint.de/news.php

This</a> is what Victor Bocan said about the "SDK"

There is nothing like "SDK" for OFP, so it could not be released. There are some programs that allow people to make models, weapons, islands, etc. They will be released slowly in near future.

...

Well... very carefuly with that. What I said doesn't mean that "SDK" (or anything like that) will be released in next few weeks. Not all tools will be released, not all tools which we would like to release are ready for releasing. Not all tools will be released together - we will release them one after one in quite long period of time.

I don understand where they come up with hte "the tools to do these thigns does not exist" thats pure and simple BS my firneds, If they never exised, teh game was never made wink.gif

I don't see why BIS would make such a great game,a nd then throw it down teh tubes with no way of making weapons and models etc. If they dont release them within the next 6months, I'm sellling my game smile.gif I love playing the game, but I'd LOVE to see a REAL mod or two(not add-ons...MODS) I'd also love to see some new islands, weapons, vehicles, etc. I think BIS is making the worng move here. If they dont release it, the game will die off SOONER than they would like, I think many(like me) are growing tired of teh same old stuff, like I said the game is great, but still needs a few more things to make it better, plus new things always revive the game. Lets jus cross our fingers BIS isn't that stupid that they are soooo greedy that they wont release some stuff to make a few models, and weapons. Even if they dont....give it time, someone will find a way smile.gif

Indeed there will be no SDK, im pretty sure about that. But the modeling tool and maybe the island editor will most propably be released.

I think you're right, I and for one would be more than happy with that.

Chances are the tools will be far more useful to most mortals than a true SDK ever would be anyway...after all, most people I know would rather use a visual development tool than notepad or vi any day of the week (within reason).

Hi,

I´m just checking out a tool, called 3D Gamemaker.

U can infact edit some games with that tool and import certain grafic files. The trouble is not getting them in. The export of the models is creating me a headache, for a .pbo plugin doesnt exist. I will check and work on it, to see if thinks work out fine. Maybe it is for now possible to make .wrp file without any problem. For some games plugins allready exist.

Here's a small update why they can't release the tools so soon:

It is VERY difficult for us. You have to understand that almost NO tools were intended to be released when we created them - they were for internal use only, we have no documentation, work with some parts of them is very difficult. You have to understand that we want to help people with making mods. But there is a lot of work on tools if we want to release them. So we work hardly and it takes some time.

Well, BIS, why not just release the tools and their source code and see how the player community might be able to add those bells and whistles you don't have time for.

well it would be cool if the would just make for some programms a pbo-addon so we could do stuff over other programms like 3dmax etc.. I know they wanna give out tools for making MOD´s but I bet it´s not for free, like golden upgrade which was not worth spending money for.

Why should it be free? Do you work for free? This game and it's code are tremendously valuable. They have worked very  hard on it for several years and have made the best game any of us have ever played ...They deserve every penny they can make from it.

For every Ying, there is a Yang. ( Wha...? )

Questions...

If SDK was released, wouldn't / couldn't it lead to the possibility of widespread cheating? ( for those who indulge in MP )

2. Does the SDK change the game code or simply allow you to alter / import models?

SDK is for changing the game code and really has nothing to do with modeling.
