I seem to be running into an obstacle every time I try to join a multiplayer match.

I can enter what seems to be the briefing room, choose my role, and go, but whenever the game finishes loading up, it takes me back to the server list. What can I do?

Check your error report file:

C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\arma2OA.RPT

Open it with Notepad or your favorite text editor and check towards the bottom to see if any clear errors are shown there.

Err, I use the Arma II and OA from Steam, and I'm a vista user. How do I get to that using vista/steam?

Use your windows search function, it´ll surely find "arma2OA.RPT" ;)

I don't have Steam version neither I have OA expansion yet. But here is what I did to finally solve the similar problem with A2. Maybe it helps. I'm not sure which step was the crucial though:

• Reinstalled & Patched with security sw disabled (except for the firewall). (Funny stuff was I had to buy new DVD drive as the drive was unable to read the disk again)
  
• Got the BattlEye (updated?) - I downloaded the client version of BE dll from their page. Created the folders from description and put the files in there. I suspect this step to solve my issue but have no idea why there was no announcement about missing or wrong version of BE.
  
• Downloaded tons of AddOns - but generally the most important is CBA, i guess.

As for the game files location - i think Steam installs games into it's own folder. Something like ..../Steam/SteamApps/UserAccountName/

You will need to run the game as adminitrator, so that BattleEye can update.

You might also want to check if you got BE installed in the first place. If not, manually install it (google knows where from).

Regarding the RPT, it is located C:\Users\~~YourWindowsUsername~~\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\ as previously said, for win7 and/or vista. AppData is by default a hidden folder, so you could either show hidden folders and navigate manually, or enter the path manually in your win explorer.
