TwoGhosts 10 Posted September 25, 2013 Hi, Firstly, I don’t know if this is in the right place – if it needs moving, feel free. I’m brand new to the Arma series (just bought Arma3) and I’m also a complete novice when it comes to game controllers – never used one before. At the moment I’m waiting on delivery of a PC rig, but in the meantime I’ve been goofing around with the challenges and showcase content. I’ve also been ODing on Arma3 videos, especially Dslyecxi's series, which are inspirational. In fact, as a direct result of Dslyecxi's material, I decided to invest in two first-time items for me, to go with my new rig: a set of Saitek Pro Combat Pedals (the subject of this post), and also a TrackIR5 setup. So, the Saitek pedals arrived today, and I eagerly went about trying to set them … but I’ve failed :( If it makes any difference, at the moment I’m running Windows 7 (64-bit), and despite the fact that I’m getting a new rig my current system isn’t that bad … I can run the game (on sort of mid settings) without any major problems. Anyway, I installed the Saitek drivers and programme software (which I’ve not used yet; it’s not really clear to me what the software does), and the pedals themselves, and they seem to be installed successfully … Windows reports this, and the basic Saitek driver software shows controller input fine. But, when I try to get them working in-game … nothing. I’d kind of expected things to go fairly smoothly, and the fact that the device seemed to install without any problems was reassuring, but it all fell down in-game. I expect I’m missing something really simple, but I just don’t know what. I’ve made a short video (below) which shows the steps I’ve taken in-game attempting to configure the pedals, to save writing them down here – I thought it might be easier. If anyone can give me any step-by-step guidance as to what I’m doing wrong and what I need to do I’d be really grateful. Please assume you’re talking to an idiot … you probably are. http://youtu.be/UkwkFSwqNxg (and yes, I have searched these forums, and elsewhere, but I can’t find any specific guidance for configuring the Saitek pedals in Arma3 anywhere) (also, I’m posting this late Wed night GMT, and I might not be able to act on any replies until Thur evening now, so please don’t think I’m being rude if you reply in the meantime and I don’t acknowledge your comments) Thanks very much <3 TG
chrisb 196 Posted September 25, 2013 Not sure regards pedals etc. But I use a Nostromo, plus a Roccat mouse, with these you need to set them up using the item software and not the in-game, have you checked trying to set it up via the Saitek software, I also have a Rat 5 (saitek), that is also best setup using the software supplied, not in-game. Worth looking through, although as I say I don’t have pedals. I had a Trackir5 pro, that needed its software for setup too, don’t have that now, couldn’t get used to using it, to old in the tooth for change perhaps. Hope you get sorted. twisted 128 Posted September 26, 2013 I have these exact pedals and they rock. Getting them working needs you to go to controllers and activate them as a controller first.

Thanks Chris - perhaps I need to have a closer look at the Saitek software then, because in-game I can't think of anything else I could do; did you see what I did in the vid? Did that look like all you had to do to get your stuff going? I have these exact pedals and they rock. Getting them working needs you to go to controllers and activate them as a controller first. Thanks twisted. I thought I did that in the video, did you see the steps I took there? Is that what you had to do? If you could tell me what I'm doing wrong / not doing, it'd be really helpful; or maybe give me the list of steps you took to get yours working. Bear in mind that I'm not that technically minded, and I've never owned a controller device before. Thanks again. <3 TG
chrisb 196 Posted September 26, 2013 Thanks Chris - perhaps I need to have a closer look at the Saitek software then, because in-game I can't think of anything else I could do; did you see what I did in the vid? Did that look like all you had to do to get your stuff going? I didn't really touch the in-game settings at all, did it all via the software provided with the item. The items I bought were during A2 period, I set them up for that, but they have rolled over pretty well to A3, just a few tweaks, again via the software, not the game. :)

Since I'm a complete controller noob it's all a bit opaque for me at the moment, and the manual isn't exactly in depth; it seems to assume a fair amount of prior understanding about the way these things work. I have discovered some short vids produced for the Saitek software, and hopefully they'll be helpful, but they're using a much more complex device than the pedals to illustrate the software ... I wish they'd just made a vid for the pedals. Oh well :( Thanks again mate. ~TG
marker 1 Posted September 26, 2013 You don't need the software, in fact if you have a joystick from saitek as well, in some cases it's recommended not to programme the pedals at all. Very simply, make sure they are activated in the controllers section of arma, go to the heli or plane settings and make sure they are programmed to the correct function. At work, so can't remember exactly what it says, but there are two points where you can use the pedals, turn and something else, one of them will give you very little rudder movement and the other will give you full rudder movement. Full rudder movement is for when you push the pedal all the way forward, the other setting is for the toe pedals for on the ground movement... Hope that helps
TwoGhosts 10 Posted September 26, 2013 Success! I got them working finally. Thanks very much for your help guys. Mother of god, though, it's hard to fly a helo ... well, to land one anyway. Perhaps things'll get a bit easier when my TrackIR arrives, but I think I've got a LOT of practice ahead ... fun, fun, fun. Thanks again! Best <3 TG
