Problems w/ transition from Arma2 > Arma3 controls. Help requested.
TwoGhosts posted a topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Disregard - problem solved - see below Hi, I'm in the process of trying to configure my controls for Arma3, coming from an Arma2 background. I seem to have hit a pretty major problem from what I was used to in Arma2. I should tell you that I'm used to using a combination of mouse & keyboard, rudder pedals (Saitek) and also TrackIR, for both infantry and helicopter controls in Arma2. I just configured all my infantry controls in Arma3. No problem there; including making use of pedals and TrackIR for various functions. Then I moved on to configure the controls for helicopter. And it's here that I've hit a really weird and seemingly counterintuitive problem... to do with mouse input. I want to disable the 'looking' function of the mouse input when I'm piloting, because I can do all my looking with TrackIR and I want to use my mouse input only for cyclic control. In the 'View' section of the control configuration I deleted all mouse input controls for 'Looking' (i.e. the 4 directional ones), leaving only the 4 directional 'Aiming' controls (to preserve that functionality when I'm in infantry mode). This works fine for infantry mode... my aiming controls work exactly like I expected (basically changing my facing as you would expect in line with my gun/crosshairs), and I can use TrackIR as infantry to 'look about'. But in piloting mode it's a nightmare. Moving my mouse serves not only to control my cyclic (as I want) but also to move my head around all over the place... looking, when I don't need that. I tried the converse approach, i.e. disabling all 4 'Aiming' mouse input options in favour of the 4 'Looking' input options. Frustratingly, this works just as I intend when piloting (mouse input only affecting the 4 cyclic and the 2 turn controls), but when I switch back to infantry all aiming functionality is gone (I can look with TrackIR, but I can't move my gun/crosshair/point-of-view at all). It's quite tricky to describe the problem vs. what I need, but hopefully someone here will understand what I mean above and hopefully be able to give me some advice. It almost seems like I need to create 2 'control profiles', one for infantry, and one as a chopper pilot. But (a) if that's the case I don't know how I can do that, and (b) I never needed to that in Arma2. Also, that solution would make it impossible to function as a downed pilot. It's counterintutive and very frustrating. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer. ~TG ---------- Post added at 23:43 ---------- Previous post was at 23:24 ---------- Haha, you can disregard my OP... I just saw this thread http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?188107-How-to-turn-off-freelook-in-Helicopters. Rekrul seemed to be having just the same problem, and Defunkt's solution was exactly right. If anyone else is having this frustration, go to > Configure > Game > Vehicle Freelook > Disabled Problem solved. Thank you. ~TG -
Help configuring Saitek Pro Combat Pedals in Arma3
TwoGhosts replied to TwoGhosts's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Success! I got them working finally. Thanks very much for your help guys. Mother of god, though, it's hard to fly a helo ... well, to land one anyway. Perhaps things'll get a bit easier when my TrackIR arrives, but I think I've got a LOT of practice ahead ... fun, fun, fun. Thanks again! Best <3 TG -
Help configuring Saitek Pro Combat Pedals in Arma3

Hmmm, perhaps I need to have a proper sit down with the Saitek programme software then. Since I'm a complete controller noob it's all a bit opaque for me at the moment, and the manual isn't exactly in depth; it seems to assume a fair amount of prior understanding about the way these things work. I have discovered some short vids produced for the Saitek software, and hopefully they'll be helpful, but they're using a much more complex device than the pedals to illustrate the software ... I wish they'd just made a vid for the pedals. Oh well :( Thanks again mate. ~TG -

Haha, hi Dslyecxi! Yeah, I'm really looking forward to getting properly stuck in once my new rig arrives. Actually, you might be able to help me bit; it was your helo guides which inspired me to invest in my first ever game controllers, a set of pedals and a TrackIR5 kit. The pedals arrived yesterday, but I can't get them working in game. I've started a thread about the problem here (with a video showing the in-game steps I've taken so far): http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?165413-Help-configuring-Saitek-Pro-Combat-Pedals-in-Arma3&p=2516179 I'm probably missing something really simple, but I'm not a technical guy really. If you could take a look and give me any guidance, or if any of your guys use the Saitek pedals and could offer any pointers, that'd be great. Thanks again for bascially getting me hooked on this game ... you might be hearing from me again ;) <3 TG -
Help configuring Saitek Pro Combat Pedals in Arma3

Thanks Chris - perhaps I need to have a closer look at the Saitek software then, because in-game I can't think of anything else I could do; did you see what I did in the vid? Did that look like all you had to do to get your stuff going? Thanks twisted. I thought I did that in the video, did you see the steps I took there? Is that what you had to do? If you could tell me what I'm doing wrong / not doing, it'd be really helpful; or maybe give me the list of steps you took to get yours working. Bear in mind that I'm not that technically minded, and I've never owned a controller device before. Thanks again. <3 TG -
Help configuring Saitek Pro Combat Pedals in Arma3
TwoGhosts posted a topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hi, Firstly, I don’t know if this is in the right place – if it needs moving, feel free. I’m brand new to the Arma series (just bought Arma3) and I’m also a complete novice when it comes to game controllers – never used one before. At the moment I’m waiting on delivery of a PC rig, but in the meantime I’ve been goofing around with the challenges and showcase content. I’ve also been ODing on Arma3 videos, especially Dslyecxi's series, which are inspirational. In fact, as a direct result of Dslyecxi's material, I decided to invest in two first-time items for me, to go with my new rig: a set of Saitek Pro Combat Pedals (the subject of this post), and also a TrackIR5 setup. So, the Saitek pedals arrived today, and I eagerly went about trying to set them … but I’ve failed :( If it makes any difference, at the moment I’m running Windows 7 (64-bit), and despite the fact that I’m getting a new rig my current system isn’t that bad … I can run the game (on sort of mid settings) without any major problems. Anyway, I installed the Saitek drivers and programme software (which I’ve not used yet; it’s not really clear to me what the software does), and the pedals themselves, and they seem to be installed successfully … Windows reports this, and the basic Saitek driver software shows controller input fine. But, when I try to get them working in-game … nothing. I’d kind of expected things to go fairly smoothly, and the fact that the device seemed to install without any problems was reassuring, but it all fell down in-game. I expect I’m missing something really simple, but I just don’t know what. I’ve made a short video (below) which shows the steps I’ve taken in-game attempting to configure the pedals, to save writing them down here – I thought it might be easier. If anyone can give me any step-by-step guidance as to what I’m doing wrong and what I need to do I’d be really grateful. Please assume you’re talking to an idiot … you probably are. http://youtu.be/UkwkFSwqNxg (and yes, I have searched these forums, and elsewhere, but I can’t find any specific guidance for configuring the Saitek pedals in Arma3 anywhere) (also, I’m posting this late Wed night GMT, and I might not be able to act on any replies until Thur evening now, so please don’t think I’m being rude if you reply in the meantime and I don’t acknowledge your comments) Thanks very much <3 TG -

Hi there, I'm new to the game and new to these forums. I don't know why the Arma series has passed me by for this long, I wish I'd tried it sooner :( Anyway, while I'm waiting for my new PC rig to arrive I've been goofing around with the challenges and showcase material. I've also been ODing on Dslyecxi's Youtube channel ... oh my god! I have never found game videos so absorbing; I've been happily sitting for hours watching these movies. So, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for providing pretty much an entire week's worth of gripping, inspiring and informative entertainment; far too many golden moments of laugh-out-loud, edge-of-your-seat thrills to name really. And the quality of the guides, tips and walkthroughs you've made available to the community is amazing. I actually feel like I could get to grips with this game now, thanks to your content. So, as I take my first tentative steps on the learning curve this game presents ... thanks again for providing a bit of a route-map and a lot of inspiration. <3 TG
