What is your best/worst experience in Arma 3?
specialsymbol replied to AveryTheKitty's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
My worst is flying, hands down. It was the aspect I was most looking forward to, and it is the most disappointing part of the game. Realizing for the first time that airplanes are literally on rails was the most disappointing experience in Arma 3. (I know, they can move up and down. Ok, then it's like a roller coaster, but with fixed speed) The best experience was actually something not combat related. On the first terrorist resistance outpost on Altis I picked up a side mission to investigate a disabled APC. It was in an orchard/garden located in a village close to the coast. I wanted to scout the area, so I took the quad and drove up a hill nearby. The sun had just set and when I got off the quad the soundtrack kicked in and you could see the village lights, the coast line - it was beautiful. I wish I could have kept that savegame. The music was perfect. Combat related the best experience was stealing a light tank in the most difficult mission (Bingo Fuel IIRC) and wreaking havoc in the base from the hill on the other side - as well as taking down the chopper and some of the transporters in the village. Only later I found out that most people played that mission during the night as it's easier then. -
Great find! This is outstanding. I know it's not "realistic", but I hope this feature isn't removed :)

Great, thanks. I was really thinking I missed out on something.

So, the SOS has 10-85x magnification according to the ingame tooltip, the LRPS 5-25x (maybe not exactly those numbers, but you get the idea). How comes I can see much more details much better with the LRPS than with the SOS? Did I miss some setting or key to zoom in further?

Are there any mods available to make aircraft handling more realistic?
specialsymbol replied to specialsymbol's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I sincerely hope that doesn't have to wait until Arma 4 - I enjoy Altis a lot! -
Thanks for that!

Are there any mods available to make aircraft handling more realistic?

One thing I don't understand is how aircraft handle in Arma 3. First off, I'm a pilot in real life. So I know how airplanes handle. I've also flown in helicopters but I have never steered one, yet I believe the same principles apply to make them steerable at all. So, there's that: I bank the plane and it doesn't turn. Instead it continues to fly almost straight on (it does turn a bit, but really - not near enough). I understand that you could explain this with some sort of broken "Autopilot", but even then it's not, well, realistic. The aircraft would be slipping. An autopilot would avoid this energetic inefficient state. No one would expect this behaviour. Is there any mod to turn this off? I bank the plane and it doesn't return to neutral when I release the keys / joystick. To return to neutral I have to steer in the opposite direction. Why? Again the "Autopilot", or rather, "Auto-Trim"? Aircraft are self stabilizing. Military aircraft less so and some of the newer ones are rumoured to be only self stabilizing with the help of computer aids, but nonetheless, all of them are. Look at the Wipeout's wings, it would definitely self stabilize. Helicopters have flexible (to a certain extent) rotors thus also being self stabilizing. Is there any mod that has aircraft and helicopters return to a neutral attitude by themselves, so that you need to maintain steering input to keep it in an attitude outside of neutral? Cruise control. Is there any mod that allows me to set a thruster setting for airplanes instead of setting a speed? For helicopters I could remedy this by using the advanced flight model, which lets me set the collective to a specific value, where it stays. Unless you activate this, helicopters fly like a lift. I searched Armaholic and the Steam Workshop and couldn't find anything that changes this. Thanks! -
I chose to deliver the fuel.

You need to get rid of that army first. From there it's a piece of cake.

Moral Fiber - failed help
specialsymbol replied to frostwyrm333's topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Same happened for me. Tank is gone, approx. 2 minutes and mission fails. It seemed to me that I could extend that time a bit by following around the team leader I had to follow firsthand, but in the end the mission always fails. Oh, of course I have the most current version. Downloaded it off Steam a couple of days ago. edit: solved it! Just go looking for the last opponent. For me he was in between the houses one road up from the tank (to the right of it if you look at the tank from the checkpoint). He was hiding behind a bush and not moving. Kill him and the mission finishes. If you run out of time quickly (for me it was around 30 seconds) first think of a search pattern, then reload and use the pattern until you find him. -
Help needed - Can't do Sidequests in Topolia?
specialsymbol replied to specialsymbol's topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
That's it, exactly. Ok, thanks for the help! Then it's on to the next scenario :) -
Help needed - Can't do Sidequests in Topolia?
specialsymbol replied to specialsymbol's topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Ok, thanks. Yes, I went into one of the red areas (around Kavala) - it's the only street to one of the side missions. Is it correct that Adapt ends after the first Topolia mission - that is, the one where you attack the AAC landing strip? -
Help needed - Can't do Sidequests in Topolia?
specialsymbol posted a topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Hello! Warning: Spoiler ahead! I need help. In Gori I finished some sidequests and moved on to Topolia (by doing the mission where you free Nikos). So in Topolia I overhear some banter about a weapons dealer and some helicopter base. But when I want to go there Kerry says he must have taken the wrong turn (not exact translation, I play the german version) - and after a while he dies. Always. I seem not to be able to reach the sidequest locations. So I thought maybe I need to do another mission and started the first mission in Topolia, where you have to attack the AAC landing strip. But then the complete part 2 (Adapt) ends??? Did I miss something? Is there really only one mission in Topolia? Why can't I do the sidequests? -
Fixed Wing Flight Model (dev branch)
specialsymbol replied to dezkit's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Has there anything been done about this yet? I was also wondering about the flight model of the Wipeout and thought I might have missed a setting somewhere. If a plane is banked at 45° it should fly a turn all by itself. In ARMA 3 it continues to go straight. Also most planes are self stabilizing, so it should slowly return to a neutral position by itself (I know, fighters are different and by design a bit unstable, but look at the wing geometry of the wipeout - it definitely should). Helicopters pretty much behave the same. When you stop applying steering input the helicopter simply keeps its attitude. Pretty strange. Now I know helicopters are less stable than planes, but I expect them to be somewhat self stabilizing (or they'd be barely controllable). Hence planes and helicopters should return to a neutral attitude when steering input has ended (unless in some strange flight situation like bottom up). Another thing I noticed about helicopters: The translational climb doesn't work when you bank and turn the helicopter. What happens is that you turn the helicopter "sideways" and it just bleeds off speed like crazy. I am not absolutely sure if helicopters behave that way, although I've never flown one myself yet - but I suspect it should climb nonetheless.- 874 replies
