  1. Wow, FYI aiming deadzone AND FreeTrack work together... it acted sort of like described for a second but then seemed to autocorrect and not continue to do it... I can post a vid if anyone wants. Literally JUST started using FreeTrack, it cost me 10 bucks in parts and made use of a PS3 Eye camera that was sitting in the closet... didn't take long at all... Will link/post tutorial if requested. *Edit for the record I have 3 Screen eyefinity and it is LUDICROUS! I have it almost perfectly tuned where I look at the right monitor and it's full turn around look right, and I look at the left monitor and it's full turn around left... I want more vertical lines though... even fully zoomed out you feel like you're missing height... Have to say it makes you want to NEVER play in 3rd person... I did this just to check it out w/o spending money, and it turned out to be a real game changer... I found it very disorienting at first and a bit too twitchy, but the freetrack software is very tunable and a just turned down the sensitivity and turned up the smoothing and it's near perfect now, I think if anything is lacking at this point it would be my video card and monitors keeping up with the looks... I went to play "normally" after having been experimenting with it since last night late, and ended up not liking playing without it... I will say though my aim/accuracy is suffering for it right now... although now that I found out aiming deadzone is use-able with it, that may change. I think I've acclimated to it more today too, so I may be as or more accurate now... Will report back.

    Arma 3 SeaLife Project

    You can literally just set the elevation to existing wrecks to under sea level/on the sea floor. I've been using Caa1 to work on some underwater wreck dive sites... one is a frigate with tanks/turrets/connex containers spread over the ocean floor... it's still pretty bad looking I'm an editing newb... (my youtube channel has a few clips of underwater wrecks) AWESEOME lol... 3 Different opinions, 3 completely different directions! That is whats great about mod makers not sticking to any rule set of reality or not, some people want crazy stuff and the reality freaks can just not use that... @Thromp the breaching/diving is AWESOME!!!!
  3. SO! I'll get the ball rolling. I want to start the conversation by saying I think this is THE sleeper feature of the series... everyone is distracted by lighting,weather (they don't even consider the ocean), graphics etc... I say that the ability to breach the surface is going to literally open up an entire world of warfare and play styles. Mechanics - Accurate Depth Readings - Accurate Oxygen or Nitrox consumption based on time/depth - Accurate assention/dessention bottom time rules - Buddy Breathing - Tank Tapping Morse/comms - Leveling abilities for free diving?? - Mic monitoring of breathing to ensure no lung expansion on ascent? - Scream for Emergency escape? - Caving/Rope Descent/Spelunking/Climbing could be a WHOLE new mechanic... Vertical ascent/battle on land??? Sheer mountain faces using lines similar to ladder mechanics only allow for shooting. (Oh and allow for shooting from ladders please!) - Shifting Sands, seafloors should/could have sections of shifting sands where you can then dig to expose things OR it just acts as a visual barrier like rubble.... similar to a suggestion I've made for dessert maps (to have shifting sands) Missions - Seafloor Demo/Repair - Seafloor Wreck recovery/exploration - Cave diving/exploration - High yield loot recovery missions - Free diving challenges - Mine clearing/setting Equipment - Full Face Mask with comms - Tanks lol - Proper Octo setup - Weight belt/system - UWV's - Submarines (I've seen that in the promo vids I think) Maps - Here's the BIG one... I'd LOVE to see BI open up ALL the old maps for AT LEAST terrain/topography editing of the seafloors - Small volcanic island that has TONS of navigable seacaves that lead to mountain outlets... cave diving/spelunking/climbing could be a WHOLE new mechanic... Vertical ascent on land??? - Entirely underwater map... reefs, wrecks, holes, caves, tunnels, etc etc etc... (see above shifting sands mechanic to really spice up the maps in a dynamic way.)     1. Science knows it doesn't have all the answers, yet you seem to think you do? 2. Also the ocean is less explored than space for the love of god, like we have ANY realistic assessment of "all" sea life that is just a joke... 3. This is a video game, and as The author of the project states people can add or remove whatever animals they want... it is HIS project you realize right? OP: AWESOME project.   5. Thanks for the comments! While I agree, this suggestion/discussion thread is for Mods OR the Game. IMO Arma IS a military simulator and many divisions of the armed forces have SCUBA forces... I'd also love to see a separate difficulty setting for realism... IMO the Arma I helicopter flight mechanics were more realistic, you could stall a chopper trying to bank up too steep of a hill... where as in A2 and A3 you are really just hitting directional buttons IMO... A3 adds weather and I'm sure the mechanics will improve over time... But I think they are trying to balance it between casual gamer use and a simulator... IMO there should be a setting for THAT... Difficulty: Normal/Vet/Expert Realism: Low/Normal/Simulator

    Wasteland for ArmA 3 by 404Games [MP]

    Always wanted to check out Wasteland in Arma2 but was SOO wrapped up in DayZ maps/mods I never really got a chance to do too much (played about 4-10 hrs). Have played a BUNCH since A3's release on the A3 version, it's great. Love watching it evolve... PLEASE add underwater wrecks for high-yield crash sites! It would be SOO cool to see in a great mod like this! Here's a quick vid of the basic idea: Bunch of vids of gameplay on wasteland there too! Great Mod! Might host a server out of my house soon lol. Too busy for now!!

    Diving Under Water

    I think with a similar system you could have a trigger to enter a "pond" that really is just a transition to the interior of an otherwise invisible building... So once go "down" into it you get dumped out in a building that has an interior... it would simulate having an underground bunker or building/base. OR Instead of triggering the swimming and putting you in a body of water, it could trigger you to crawl and you could navigate through tunnel systems... If you can crack the ocean floor by working around it, there just has to be a way to work around not being able to breach the ground... I'm really not skilled or experienced enough to know for sure, but it seems like a logical step.
  13. SOOOO awesome... I'm not even a huge Military Simulator fan, and only got A2 because of DayZ (I know I should be ashamed)... but A3 is REALLY impressive even in alpha. I was really happy to see you could drown and die w/o scuba gear, Sad that you can't get the bends yet. BUT the most important thing for me is the increase in quality and immersion, I've NEVER felt more "in game" than I did today... The graphics are stunning, the mechanics and body positioning is GREAT.... inventory system has my head spinning... As does shooting every time I mean to select something (never used the spacebar for anything in Arma or DayZ before) and G being Grenade i/o gear is just a little surprising lol... LOVE LOVE LOVE it so far, it's almost killed DayZ for me now with how much better the graphics are....

    Diving Under Water

    I'm in diving nerd love with this mod... I love that diving is in the alpha... but this is SOO great. I have to read through the whole thread before I post questions or suggestions... but I'm REALLY excited for this... I'd LOVE to add this to my DayZ Sahrani project when it's released... diving for helicrashes would be AMAZING!! Floating zombies anyone? OI! On the sea life... nope, unfortunately they do not spawn automatically... although I will play with it more.. you can check out my youtube channel for more vids of it in A3... I have 2 or 3 diving videos in there... One on Sahrani (skip to ~20 seconds for diving) and one on Stratis... Your readout of depth etc is already more robust than the A3 stuff! No depth readout! I want to get the bends lol! This is SUCH an awesome project... I know it's a complete departure from the spirit of the mod.. .but I wonder if you could do something like this for simulating underground bases.... must read whole thread.

    Diving Under Water

    I've been playing with A1 and A2 maps inside A3 and diving in them... I've found almost all of them lack the depth and topography in the "oceans" that would be required for truly cool underwater scenarios... I've only played a little though. Mostly in Chernarus and Sahrani. Would LOVE to have diving in Arma2.. Keep up the good work!

    db are decibels, and +20 of them would totally deafen you lol, not sure why that would be like that. It might be something that got corrupted in porting? but +20db in audio equipment terms essentially means "please blow my speakers" lol... I'm looking at the mission now but I'm VERY newby... I do have a really good brain for logic and border on having synesthesia, so sometimes I literally see an answer I don't understand. *Speaking of which, it would seem to me that the error you are getting (assume this is a SQL error) is in regards to your config file that launches the mission NOT the mission itself... or some logic break between the two if you catch my drift.... (I think it's a logic break, because any input after "endoffile" should be either an external human input or an input recvd from the game engine... but I'm not 100pct sure by ANY means) I will look but I'm sure there are others MUCH better suited to do this... In regards to the project, I still have not received any word from BI regarding the go ahead or not for reopening Caa1 for A2 or for A3 (although for A2 should be 100pct fine, as .kju had auth. from BI and he's told everyone go ahead and do what you want.... only problem MIGHT be re-packaging it or making any changes that require de-compiling the source files we have access to) I'm sure BI staff have MUCH more pressing items on their agenda. so I for one am going to keep trucking forward till I'm told to stop.

    SOOO many good suggestions here. Hope someone is actually organizing them all... Sucba: - Decompression Sickness from SCUBA (of course there will have to be a training mission to teach people the rules of SCUBA that prevent the bends (and obv. you're not going to want to do actual decompression times.. - Use dive knife to guy fish - Would LOVE to see corals in the editor so I can make reefs - Modified Wrecks that simulate the damage of being on a sunken ship not the typical "blow up in battle" ones - Ability to place sea animals in editor (also WAY MORE sea animals lol) - Currents making it hard/impossible to swim certain paths Environment: - Shifting sands both underwater AND in desert areas (I know this is a big request but I've come up with some cheesy scripting theories to do it so I can't imagine you guys couldn't do better) Weapons: - Modular Rail system for scopes/accessories (want blinding strobe attachment NOW) Gameplay - Jump/Combat Roll

    Lol... I love SCUBA and have swam in tanks with sharks but never seen one in the ocean.... have seen on in game already... I've placed wrecks in the water in the editor in some Arma 2 Caa1 maps. all you do is set the depth... works great. diving in Sahrani is pretty amazing... Was wondering if there are objects for the corals and sea grasses? I'd also LOVE to see constructable wreck sites like castles in Arma 2 but with ship bits... Off to make atlantis. Anyone interested can see a vid of the heli/boat/tire pile/turret wrecks I tested out in Sahrani on my youtube channel (same name) and I have recently like a video showing how to get Caa1 working in the A3 editor.

    No time to read in full now, Will try to have the smarter guys on our team look and reply as well... I'm really just a coordinator... However in regards to 3... it basically just "works" as is... but will need HEAVY tweaking in the background to really bring it up to standard... If BI gives the go ahead I would be willing to help coordinate the efforts of members here... however obviously I am new to the community so I might not be the best one for it.     Arma 2 attachments project

    Just from a real world perspective what is the point of defining scope types??? There should AT LEAST be a "rail compatible" class for scopes/guns so that those are universal... Then modders could just focus on those... Most modern weapons have at least one standard rail mount anyway right? Seems silly to class them like mags, they don't have the same compatibility issues magazines and ammo do... This should get sorted sooner rather than later IMO alpha is the time.

    Can't buy supporter edition?

    I was trying to buy 3 supporter copies... literally only let me buy one to date... Had to paypal one of my devs cash so he could buy the one that got stuck in his basket... Have NO clue if I (or any of the 3 of us) are in the first 500 but I can tell you I was sitting there for an hour before it opened and was trying like MAD to get 3 as soon as it launched... Ended up just buying the cheapest steam one to give away once the dust settles... I think "we" have all 3 now but it would have been SOOO much easier if you guys just allowed people to preorder it instead of trying to launch it in sync with the actual file release... Don't really care though, game is super awesome I'm psyched you guys rock!

    I will have our Map guy look at this and reconfirm, but if I understood him correctly, he can ALL of the road stuff for AI pretty quickly for ALL these maps if we get approval to mod it in Visitor.. As the project coordinator I would be willing to request he finishes all the roads for all the maps before we start editing Sahrani for DayZ in visitor if this is approved by BI. I've been informed by a couple members of the team we prob. don't even need the .PEW files... JUST approval from BI to reverse engineer the maps and recomplie them... We would not want any revisions to the credits or anything like that... Caa1 Guys did ALL the heavy lifting, we'd just like to give back to the Arma Community and be able to mod the map a with some more control for our DayZ Version... Although I don't know if that would require .kju or someone from the Caa1 to redo the sigs? We can make them ourselves but obv. wouldn't want to be doing that signing for someone else. (If anything I say sound fundamentally flawed or dumb, it's totally possible, I'm NO expert on any of this, I'm just trying to get things coordinated so they move forward faster and more efficiently for the WHOLE community not just our project) Another one of our group is a HUGE ArmA Fan so I'm sure he'd be into the idea of helping where he can on the continuation of this project as well... I'd LOVE to play the missions from ArmA I not just in A2 but A3 Now too!!!!
