    ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread

After getting into editing myself and doing some research, I've quickly found an easy way to achieve this with a simple config.bin/.cpp edit since there already is actual 6.5x39 ammo with shell casings and therefore a seperate model/animation just like the 7.62 etc. Now I understand why everyone loves Arma modding/editing so much, and I couldn't be happier :)

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

Got it working, it's easily done with a simple new config. Now Arma 3 is perfect again :) ...all I need now is a new expensive computer :/
  3. The entire landscape is stunningly beautiful and the BLUFOR units look amazing, especially their helmets aren't too futuristic, just perfect, unlike the OPFORs. Wind affecting dust and smoke etc, especially bullet impacts, is something I've always wanted to see in a video game, it looks fantastic! Weapons look good too, I really love the MX design, but the change to caseless 6.5 ammo is very disappointing and a huge turn off for me personally, it's too futuristic and not seeing shells ejected when units around you are shooting (or in 3rd Person view) appears like some laser gun sci-fi game or a very cheap old game where they simply "forgot" to add ejecting shell casings...It's the only thing I really dislike about Arma 3 so far... I'd recommend a simple graphics option to turn off all visible shell casings for those who want to "imagine" caseless future ammo, or at least add the MX series with the standard case 6.5 ammo which it had in the E3 demo. Can't say much about the performance since I am still using a pretty old AMD quad-core. But it runs decent enough to test things out until the final release version...
  4. I agree, and both the MARPAT itself and the recoloured vests etc look absolutely fantastic! Nice work! Thank you very much Sabre!

    ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread

I'd really like to see a (hopefully simple) mod of the original MX rifle(s) with shell casings ejecting again, like it originally was at E3. I can't stand this whole new "caseless ammo" deal, especially when this could've been done with a simple graphics option to turn off visible ejecting shells, leaving us with a choice.
  6. I'd like to see an option to disable visible shell casings instead of the new (since the last E3) forced and fictional "caseless ammo", where people like me have to depend on mods/addons just to get some simple shell ejections.

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

You claimed that the mentioned rifle platforms are superior to AR (and AK) platforms and I merely explained to you why this claim is false and loosely based on Call of Duty playing kiddo internet myths. Fact: AKs and ARs are still the best weapon platforms. That's also why all former SpecOps operators still use them in their civilian careers. None use or promote G36 garbage and the demand for US made civilian G36 is non-existent unlike the civilian SCARs which are fine, but they're not better or revolutionary in any way. Brits also chose the worst rifle ever: the SA-80 The Bullpup design itself is already bad, but the rifles also had serious reliability issues and instead of buying new Diemaco ARs at the time, they chose the much more expensive option and HK had to fix them, in this way they at least can still say "we have british guns!". It's the same reason why the german government chose HK over Diemaco. HK416s are not that bad since they are basically still ARs and retain their superior ergonomics etc. But they are also heavier and add more height over bore just like the SCAR or ACR. Norwegians also reported issues with their new HK416s. I am a german and I'd take an american/canadian made AR15 over an HK416 any day! I don't know what's state of the art in 20 or 200 years, but neither do you or the Arma Devs. As for AR15s in the future, all it needs is a forward (SCAR/ACR position) non-reciprocating charging handle to become the perfect rifle.

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

I was just referring to the 1945 -> 1965 comment and how long battles rifles simply got full-auto, a smaller caliber, a magazine and a pistol grip. Nothing too revolutionary. If caseless ammo is so realistic/authentic and so easy to create and mass produce, why has no military adopted it yet? Scientist are also testing and researching "beaming" technology...doesn't mean it will ever work properly in the next 20 or 200 years... You obviously have no clue about those weapons. Ever shot/carried the G36? I have, in the german military...it's utter dog shit! Not just the WAY inferior ergonomics, pathetic magazines, height over bore issues and plastic receiver, but they're way too heavy (bolt carrier design is a joke!) and also have serious reliability issues. And the XM-8 was just another G36. Also Diemaco C8 AR15s beat the G36 in Norwegian and British trials! Same with the LMT .308 in Britain which performed better or just as reliable as the gas-piston Hk417...HK is overrated and overpriced garbage! And SOCOM cancelled Mk-16 SCARs. FN SCARs are reliable tho, but that's about it. They're still bulkier/bigger, slightly heavier and still have a reciprocating charging handle. They offer nothing over a proper civilian or military AR15.

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

I know the USMC is experimenting with caseless ammunition (US Army is testing polymer casings)...but that doesn't mean it will be 100% successful and adopted right away, just look at the HK G11 and other similar concepts... The Colt 1911 pistol platform is now over 100 years old and yet it's still very popular today and even the Marines still use them. Same with the AR15 or AK platforms, they're more than 50 years old and yet remain the best assault rifles all around the world, newer concepts like the XM8, SCAR or ACR are still inferior (ergonomics, weight, size etc) to the AR15 in many ways for example... The "extremely disappointing" part relates to the fact that the MX rifles in previous E3 showings still had shell casings, hence also the still existing sound of shells hitting the ground in the current Alpha. It seems to me they suddenly (between now and the last E3) decided to make it "caseless" as a lame excuse to help with performance issues... But then again, it might be a non-issue with all the talented Arma modders out there, which also applies to the OPFOR models ofc. And completely converting the original MX series (which I really like) to 5.56x45 or simply adding ejecting shells to the models shouldn't be too hard for a model editing newbie like me.

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

Yeah the OPFOR look way too futuristic...while the BLUFOR look perfect imo, not too much different from current modern US Army Rangers etc..I really like them, especially their version of the MICH2000 helmets look great. Caseless ammunition is also way too futuristic and extremely dissapointing imo. It totally destroys the whole feel of the realistic Arma military simulation I used to love..."caseless ammo" is for space alien laser guns in sci-fi games, not military sims taking place only 20 years in the future. It's just a minor issue tho and I am sure there will be simple mods/addons to fix the original MXs and/or adding complete custom weapons.

    Caseless Ammo? Really?!

At first I thought the missing shell casings from the MX rifle were an Alpha bug... But after some research I realised it was intended and 6.5 ammo is now suddenly "caseless"...are you serious? It feels and looks utterly cheap and pathetic, it totally kills the whole realism feel/look it had at the E3 showings etc. Not even Halo had this with most of its guns which takes places 500 years in the future. I really like the design of the new MX rifles (and they still have a shell ejection port lol) but this caseless ammo issue now actually changed my mind and I won't buy the game anymore...unless you revert it back to normal traditional ammo or some modders come up with a quick mod/addon to "fix" it properly in the first weeks.

    Caseless Ammo? Really?!

Yes, they "suddenly" changed it since their E3 show case...check YT for proof, hence the still existing shell ejection ports! It only takes place 20 years in the future, not 10.000...
  13. coffeeshock

    Caseless Ammo? Really?!

"Real ammo" lmao...yet nobody uses this "real ammo" that was tested and rejected for obvious reasons decades ago... Caseless ammo in a video game is just a lame excuse to help with performance issues imo...and it makes the game look odd, as in Wolfenstein 3D ancient video games odd. This just proves once again how every single upcoming video game these days turns into dog poo. This change kills the whole Arma experience for me. If I want laser guns, I can play some Star Wars title... The main reason for this thread is my hope for a response from a Dev with a proper explanation...

    US Marines

I know, I already mentioned this in a prior post... @Bink Looks awesome! Can't wait...

    US Marines

There's already a very good addon with MARSOC marines (meatball) and OPS CORE helmets anyway...more simple/regular Force Recon units with classic MICH2000s only would be just fine, I'm really glad you decided to do them, thanks for all your hard work! :)
  16. coffeeshock

    US Marines

MARSOC is not the same as Force Recon, they also have Block II M4s with RIS II rails etc while Force Recon doesn't because it is not part of SOCOM like MARSOC is. There is already an excellent MARSOC mod based on binks marines with both MICH2000s and Ops Core helmets: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?121991-MARSOC-Marine-Special-Operations-Team

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?167027-The-United-States-Marine-Corps&p=6472363&viewfull=1#post6472363 Even the most recent pictures and videos only show MICH2000s...I've never seen Force Recon with anything else either... And I really hope you keep those sleeves down/long too, like your original marines :)
  18. coffeeshock

    US Marines

    All MICH2000s...would be more authentic...

    FHQ Remington Weapon Pack

Very nice, thank you for your hard work, I appreciate it. I really like the model(s) and even the sounds...but the unrealistic fireball muzzle flash ruins it for me. These kind of flash hiders (3-4 prongs) actually eliminate any kind of flash signature, even at night. Guess I'll stick with the ACE M4s for now...
  20. Any chance of seeing jackets or at least all or more sleeves down like they originally were with the Bink marine models? It would be more "neutral" for most environments, I know it's just a minor detail but the option would be nice tho :)

    FHQ Remington Weapon Pack

Hehe I feel the same ;) ...and I know from experience that it's not just "tacticool" to have an extended rail and a "c-clamp" grip on the gun, it's actually very comfortable (especially with a hand stop) and effective! Dunno why all the video games nowadays only feature 7" rail M4s with tennis grips or 9" rail HK416s...I have yet to see a game or addon with a full length 12-13" rail on a 14.5" barreled carbine like the M4A1 SOPMOD Block II for example... That's why I like the fictional MX rifle in Arma3 so much, it seems to be some kind of ACR+BlockII hybrid with a long rail...but until then I take everything I can get, and Alwarren's ACR already looks too good to be true, with or without a possible extended rail and/or proper c-clamp grip.

    FHQ Remington Weapon Pack

Wow very nice! Looks very promising. Btw there is also an extended rail for it:
  23. Thank you Meatball and co! I always loved Binkowskis Marines, you made them even better! Are you by any chance working on a M4A1 SOPMOD Block II for your M4 update? Is there a way to deactivate this or put them on or off manually? (AI)
