    DayZ editting

Hey guys So I've been lurking around in the DayZ .pbo files and I've been able to extract the textures I want. However, the meshes won't open up in oxygen 2, which I'm assuming comes down to an altered engine. Is oxygen 2 used for ripping arma3 and take on helicopter models? I would really love to be able to extract DayZ models and start my own fun by editing (making new clothes, faces, etc) so if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
  2. Hello guys I've recently made a model for armaII/DayZ, however a concern that I have is it possible for armaII to support 2048x2048 texture maps? I wanted to have all the textures on the same file, hence why I've got it at 2048x2048

    Ability To Vault Over Walls/Obstacles?

But its not out of the realm of realism. Sure, climbing a human height ledge with 30-50 kilos may be tough, but it's not exactly 'completely and ridiculously unrealistic'. As someone has already stated, you aren't even always wearing heavy armour, so if they were to limit your abilities to what exactly you're wearing, that'd be fair. But if they didn't do that, I don't even think it's a huge issue and Tbh, it sounds like complaining for the sake of complaining about realism. As I already stated, unless they add in things that factor into the realism of combat such as hunger, thirst, potty breaks, breaking bones, losing limbs etc. the game will never really be a true simulator. Which is perfectly okay with me, cause gameplay should always come first, even within the simulator genre. I get that the game is suppose to be a simulator, but if the feature was to have a heavy impact on combat and how enemies react with one another, then I can see it being an issue. However as it stands I don't see any harm coming from a feature like this, it just adds variety to how you deal with the enviroment.
  4. - Female troops - Boosting team mates over ledges - Less static animations - Realistic pain reactions (I.e shot in the leg, you limp)

    Ability To Vault Over Walls/Obstacles?

First of all, its a game. Unless you can have the option to crap your pants, I can suffer a little 'weight unrealism' in favour of better gameplay. And since I'm pretty sure you can't blow holes into all the walls in Arma3, climbing over it is a great alternative. I was very impressed with the features showcased in that video! Animations were a little rough, but still great. Are any of those features confirmed for Arma3? I'd be really happy if they added in boosting team mates over ledges as well

    They better have female soldiers...

@Max while that would be ideal to have femanimations, it's not necessary. Just look at DayZ, the female model has the exact same animations, yet it looks perfectly fine cause the animations don't look like a gorilla, it's pretty gender nuetral. Loads of games have used gender nuetral animations, so it's not really a problem. As I said, it'd be ideal, but it's not necessary, especially when people are already bitching about 'how much work it'd be for the poor developers' cause god forbid that they're actually developing a game for a variety of players. @BinaryCode as people have already stated, if its gonna shoot you, you're gonna shoot back. Gender is irrelevent, and if you have a problem, then really thats your fault. Everyone shouldn't suffer because of your need to protect. And I've already stated, this is a GAME. I'm sure most of us have killed a bunch of pixels that represents a female before, so no matter how much of a simulation you claim this to be, it's still a game. Still, the simulation arguement can and will backfire, because most people WOULD shoot a woman, granted she had the intention of killing you, so why should that not be present in a SIMULATION? You may see it as brutal but war is brutal, and survival is everything.

What are you on about? Shooting a defenseless child is different then shooting a woman who clearly has the intention of shooting you. If a woman has military training, qualified, and there soley for the purpose of combat then hell yes, that gives you the right to shoot her. That goes for any man or woman. Whether that gives you some personal moral dilema, thats what you have to deal with. A child would never be put under those circumstances, moreso in a video game situation anyway. If a woman has you tied down to a chair and is repeatedly punching you in the face, gender doesn't come into question when all you want to do is escape by any means necessary.

    They better have female soldiers...

All I'm seeing is a bunch of arguements going back and forth regarding real life controversies, but in case people are forgetting, Arma is a video game series? You can try and pull the simiulator card as much as you like, but whats the point? Unless the game plans on adding retarded features like rape, personal in-depth hygeine issues, or gender dis/advantages, I don't see how women can't be just as equal as men in a video game. Don't like it? Don't play as them. No matter how much of a simulator you people claim this game to be, it's still a game and things can be changed outside of the norm. And women being in infantry roles isn't unrealistic, it's just not common in the present. BIS already stated that setting the game in the future has given them room to create their own sort of universe (of course, trying to keep as realistic as possible), so I fail to see how women don't fit into that.

I honestly don't understand why they couldnt use guns in arma2. I mean, unless they had a whole new skeleton, I don't see why they'd need to use a whole different animation set. But even if they did have a seperate skeleton, why would they? Female characters in most games have been using male/gender nuetral skeletons since the dawn of gaming, only in some cases the females have custom run and walk animations, but everything else is the same.

Oh, I only read what it said in the arma3official channel under activity. It says 1 month ago, maybe they editted a month ago? I dunno, but you're right, in the actual video it says 13 of september.

Thanks for clearing it up. Since the video is only a month old, i assumed that was the animation they were sticking with.

This namely, amongst the videos around this time. You can see the main problem from the side around 1:00 - 1:10 I of course bring it up now, because I'd rather do it sooner then later, since its a problem that should be fixed. But regarding the new video, the lighting does look great! I just hope inside the buildings would have nice detail and shadows. In arma2, most of the buildings are bare and don't feel very... Realistic, I suppose.

When running, the legs move too far back, which was the same problem with Arma2's animation. Looks like a robot is sprinting at abnormal speeds. Seriously, look at the legs in both videos and in the game itself, then run at the same speed/pace in real life. You'll notice the legs have too much movement to be considered realistic, which gets increasingly ugly as you notice the upper body of the animation is perfectly fine. Which looks inconsistent. When I first started animating, with my running animation I did the same thing, and it always looked odd to me. But then I ran myself, looked at videos of people running, and people didn't spread their legs THAT much. Well, not as much as in Arma anyway. Which then led to a much better animation from me ;) The current run animation looks like you're trying to kick yourself in the ass as you're moving forward.

    They better have female soldiers...

Um despite what you may think, I'm pretty sure you don't know the gender of every arma player, or what every woman's interests are. Show your statistics of arma's playerbase, and then talk to us about it. This comment only shows your ignorance. Not to mention if a guy wants to play as a woman, or a woman wants to play as a man, how is that any of your business? You're using a double standard, because if a woman is playing as a man (forced, in the situation of ARMA), I doubt you'd be calling them 'weirdo's'. It's a matter of preference, and variety and who are you to say no to people?

    They better have female soldiers...

lol, cause every woman is weak and doesn't work on her own strength. Really, if a woman is dedicated enough to be in the military, she has to be strong. So yes, a woman who is qualified for military purposes can and will do that. If you've never seen a tough woman, you need only to google.

At 0:35, doesn't it look like the outline of a woman with messy hair...? It's got thinner arms, and a thin stomach area.

But its not an issue regarding animation transition i'm bringing up, its the fact the legs spread backwards and forwards too much when running. It's not an animation transition problem, its an animation problem itself. It'd be fine if you were doing a fast sprint, but judging by the movement speed, its just a normal speed run

I've done some animating before, and I just wanted to suggest that the legs have the same problem in Arma2 when running. They go back and forth too much, giving it a 'gliding' look, or that they're doing huge steps, but at a slow pace. The legs have too much movement for the pace you're running at. It looks more like the legs are sprinting, and the upper body is moving at a normal run speed. Looks fairly odd.

    They better have female soldiers...

Sorry, let me retract what I said as it doesn't reflect what I think. Some of the best snipers in history have been women. Look up Lyudmila Pavlichenko. Official kill count was 309, so nothing to turn your nose up at. Back then in Soviet Union, women were often put into sniper groups as they thought they had more patience, and coordination. Of course, it all comes down to the individual, but thats just how it was.

    They better have female soldiers...

I can't imagine a male not being able to wear a woman's soldier uniform, there wouldn't be THAT much of a difference. Unless the woman is extremely petite, and the man is big and burly, I think this VIDEO GAME (yes, people need to realise it is a video game) can handle it. If women faught in the front lines in WWII (Soviet sniper Roza Shanina, for example. Most of the best snipers in history have been women), I don't see how any other war should be different, especially if its set in the future in a fictional timeline. If this game is suppose to be based off of realism, then it's being quite hypocritical by ignoring the female soldiers and pilots of past, present and future, not to mention not doing any of them justice. History only proves that women can be just as strong as men, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. We're not asking for half men, half women, just a few to at least acknowledge the fact they exist.
