    Flight Sims X/2004/lockon etc..

Dat Flaming Cliffs 2...:D This is easily my favourite combat sim. Great selection of modern fighters, pretty easy mission editor = Infinite Joy! Really can't wait for more news about FC3. Flying mah F-15 over DCS engine version of the Caucus? :bounce12: Yes please! I'm probably just dreaming, but it would be great to see a 3D revamp for the FC2 pits, even just the F-15 and Su-30 or MiG-29... Ahh one day...:) Any LOMAC players looking forward to the proposed combined arms sim that ED announced? I'm imagining the worlds largest and most realistic RTS, and it's very exciting.

The World in 2050 - 5 possible scenarios

Interesting video, it's pretty vague though. Ideas in scenarios 2, 3 and 5 seem easily interchangeable. And Scenario 4 could easily be the continuation of scenario 1. The only one I'd guess would closest to the truth by 2050 would be scenario 1. But that's not saying all of these scenarios couldn't happen at some point in the future. Given that 2050 is only 38 years away though scenario 1 just seems the most plausible. Like Flash Thunder said: .Yeah nah, probably not. 40 years seems to short for this kind of change, maybe by 2100? But if 2050 is anything like Scenario 1, then I would imagine 2100 to be more like Scenario 4. And wtf was Scenario 5 about? It just seemed like one idea from any of the other 4 (take your pick) stretched into it's own scenario...? We can only hope!:D
  3. Eh It's early days, I'm sure the media won't really care unless something good turns up. I've read up to about 2008, and so far it has just been a lot of brainstorming and insights on some relatively minor events. Some of the emails are just plain 'shit posting' so to speak. Most so far have just been about adjusting analysis procedures (the GV system or whatever they call it) and a watch officer or "stick" or someone else high up telling everyone about a new client wanting some really mundane info (mundane as in -not really important unless your the CEO of the specific company requesting the info-). I don't know what's in the remaining e-mails that have been released so far (can't really be bothered as the ones so far have been pretty mundane... eventually) but It would have to be a lot bigger to get any attention in mainstream media. Well anyway 5,000,000 emails later maybe there will be something interesting. It will be a while before Wikileaks and the media outlets that are on board sift through all 5 million emails, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. my 2 cents.
  4. @InstaGoat and his post about 3D Scopes -without performance draining Picture-in-picture- Yes. Just yes, I downloaded this mod last week and haven't used the default acog since, I don't think I even could use the default acog again after using this mod. Such a simple solution to 3d scopes and IMHO there's no need for PIP when this method can be used. The only advantage to the Pip method is a small part of the screen is zoomed in when it shouldn't be... meh. If PiP stays in the final game and is used for 3d scopes I would like to see this simpler method used on 3d scopes when PiP is disabled.

Depiction of war in video games

I think that's pretty spot on. From what I understand they're mostly security for facilities and high value individuals. Apparently some guys can get paid up to $3000 a week. Then there's the civilian contractors, people who don't require any military background and get jobs like driving supplies from A to B and the US military has even outsourced things like laundry and cooking jobs to private companies at times. Check out the documentaries "Shadow Company" and "Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers", pretty interesting. Hah, that's a good point (see: "Executive Outcomes") Something I'd find interesting to know about "W" is if he became and infantryman because he was a 'bastard' or being an infantryman made him one. I assume the latter because of all the talk of FNG's being more suitable to be "poster boys" for the Army. In any case it would be good to see less 'white knight' heroes in games that depict war, and more of these anti-hero 'bastard' types for a change. So hopefully more guys like him speak out about this (I can't really see why they'd give a shit what characters in video games act like or how much the gameplay depicts real life combat but who knows, the guys gotta do something in his spare time.) and with any luck FPS game devs might try to gear their games more towards realism (visually and contextually) instead of just blindly claiming it's realistic for sales. I remember someone saying somewhere in the forums (in a poll i think) that if your average FPS is about 0/10 in terms of realism then ArmA would be about a 3/10. Well considering it's a game based off a milsim this might be true and the remaining 7 could simply be the mental and physical stress of real combat but I'll probably never know personally so here's hoping ArmA continues to strive for realism and that Cpt. Scott Miller might be a little bit of a "bastard" (Or at least Nikos Panagopoulos). :)

Depiction of war in video games

Good read, just saw this on Kotaku, came here to post it and what do you know! I would absolutely, without question, 100% play a game where the soldiers are depicted as guys like this. The 80% of Infantrymen as he puts it. Video games not depicting war? Pfff play some ArmA son. :p EDIT: ^^^ 100 times this ^^^. It may or may not be an engine limitation but you don't have to have ever been in the military to realise it must be HARD to move wearing 60ish kilos of gear. Just watch a video of soldiers on patrol (it's not like their in short supply). If you're not blind you'll notice the way they move looks awkward and restricted. Just some of the words I've heard to describe ArmA's movement.
  7. @PONKEYDENIS: All the above are right, you should get used to the vanilla game before trying ACE. But to add some visual/audio quality without effecting gameplay I'd suggest getting WarFX Blastcore, JTD Fire & Smoke and JSRS soundmod. That's just my 2 cents though, there isn't exactly any rules on how to mod your game, but avoiding ACE to begin with is some pretty good advice.:)
  8. Thankyou! This will work great, I just made a config for WICT with the 2.5 classlist, added wict the the BattleGround mission on Mederet and it worked incredibly well. The only bad thing was seeing airborne units running around with different coloured uniforms:p And now I'll be able to make a winter config without having to place eeevery single unit on the map and save mission. :D
  9. This mod is great guys, huge improvement over 2.51. The only thing I have a problem with is I can't seem to find the list of classnames for all the units. I know there was one for 2.51 (I've formatted my PC since then.) But I couldn't see a classlist anywhere in the documentation or other included docs. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great. EDIT: I did find the 2.5 version of the classlist on DH just want to know if/where there is a 2.6 version of this list or if it's going to be updated.
  10. Congrats guys! Looks amazing I'll be trying it out ASAP.

A secret intercept station for ECHELON hidden on Limnos. This would be awesome.

    Development Blog & Reveals

I thinks it's weather radar, at least it looks similar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Doppler_Weather_Radar_-_NOAA.jpg EDIT: It is set 20-30 years in the future though so it could be anything... It does look like some kind of radar though, or maybe a biodome for breeding aliens.

What is "Combat record" in the website ?

My guess is it's reserved for updates on the game. Maybe something like an A3 Devblog.
  14. @PurePassion Oh wow, I love smookies animation mod too, good to know he's on the team!:D

Training from Amerca's Army Games in ArmA3

Voted No, not because I don't like the AA training it's actually done well. I just don't want to be restricted from using a certain weapon without training with it (especially if I've used it in ArmA 2 and don't feel I need to go through the basics again just to use it). I would like to see more in depth training in ArmA but I think that's something BI are working on for A3 anyway.
  16. Hey BRicsi01, you should try using WICT or DAC for this. Both of these scripts can make AI randomly spawn and patrol and are fully adjustable. I had WICT running with Neuteral Stalkers and DUTY Stalkers and a bunch of Zombie stalker and dog modules. Turned out pretty well as I kept seeing other groups of stalkers patrolling the zone. Firefights between the Neuteral Stalkers and DUTY would break out pretty often though (I know you can turn down the intensity of WICT but i'm not very good at using WICT) so you might want to try DAC seeing as setting up random patrol's it what it is designed for. There is also Kronzky's Urban Patrol Script and UPSMON based off that aswell (and quite possibly many others I havn't heard of). Well hope this gave you some Ideas for making a more authentic Exclusion Zone.
  17. Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, its not on the front page so the Sukhoi T-50 would be cool to fly. Don't know why the Iranians have them, maybe a deal with russia? Maybe they stole blu-prints. Who knows? Who cares, amazing looking plane, and I've read it can currently defeat the F-35. It would be a great counterpart for the F-35.

    Airfield takistan

Yeah I just had a look at Mountain Warfare and you can't capture airfields. You'd be better off playing Warfare BE it has all the things you're looking for. There are alot of CTI style missions but I would say Warfare BE is the most popular (as far as puplic servers go) and it's completely vanilla, so no mods required. All you do is download the .zip folder. Extract it into your MPMissions Directory (should be C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma2 Operation Arrowhead\MPmissions) then just select Warfare BE instead of Mountain Warfare. Steam shouldn't be a problem I have the steam version and have never had a problem with user missions (or mods for that matter). Anyway if BE doesn't suit you like I said there are ALOT of CTI/Warfare missions. Arma 2: CTI Warfare OA: CTI Warfare Enjoy!:D

    Airfield takistan

    1. There should be an airfield marker on your map if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if it is in Mountain Warfare (I assume this is the CTI game your playing) but if you go to the hanger near this marker you should be able to purchase aircraft once you've captured it. 2. AFAIK there is no UAV support in Mountain Warfare (CTI) although some user made CTI missions do support UAV's among other things. (Including fixed-wing aircraft is Mountain Warfare doesn't honestly can't remember if it does or not.) 3. You can order your ai units to board the chopper and the ai pilot will land at the nearest possible location. But there is no actual 'land here' order. (Yeah sucks):p Hope that helped. If you want more possibilities for CTI just search one of the mod sites like Armaholic.com or ArmedAssault.info for user made CTI missions.

Steamworks, add it in or not?

This is good to hear. I'm getting ArmA 3 from sprocket because ArmA2 and OA are a nightmare to update on steam. And even when I update manually steam doesn't recognize it so I still have to re-download the the game. Steam is great if you just want to play vanilla games. But I find one of the most enjoyable things about PC gaming is the modability. I can't agree that steamworks adds any incentive to playing with groups and inviting new members. The ArmA community does a good job of this on it's own. Any gaming community does this fine on it's own. Steamworks is just another way of doing the same thing people have done for years. I think you'll find most OFP/ArmA fans would prefer to have the option. In a way choice and freedom is a trademark of the series.
  21. ^^^This. I couldn't agree more. Fog is pretty bad atm, I would hardly even call it fog, it seems to work the same way as view distance fog. So basically turning fog up is the same as turning view distance down. Using NIM's dynamic weather you can create more realistic fog that sort of hangs around and the player can move through it. But couldn't they just use the same tech for the VC to create fog?
  22. I wouldn't be so sure about .:p

    Micro Destruction

Mad, I had no idea what to call them. Yep loopholes would be awesome. Also that thing where soldiers put their helmet on a stick and raise it above a wall or window to check for enemy snipers. A bit OT but would be great.:D

    Micro Destruction

Also punching holes into walls as an improvised gun port with large calibers (if that's what was happening?) would be great and something i've wished i could do for ages.
  25. Engine/AI: -Better audio for AI radio comms: -When the enemy is in the distance and hasn't spotted the player's group the AI sounds fairly calm. Then if the enemy is close the tone of the AI's voice sounds more urgent. -Aware and combat modes should have different tones e.g the difference between Stealth and Combat/Aware modes. -Using different terms for enemies. Instead of always saying "Enemy Plane" when reporting fixed wing aircraft they could also say things like "enemy fast-mover" for example. I'm sure theres plenty of military slang they could use to make them sound less robotic adding to realism and immersion. -Overall more natural and fluent sounding AI. Engine: -AI pilots able to land on helipads placed on rooftops. Modding & Tools: -With the new volumetric clouds more weather options in the editor like cloud height and thickness would be great to have. -With water being a big part of Arma 3 it would be good to have options in the editor to setup things like currents and rips in the editor. This creates much more of a challenge for the player to plan his route rather than simply swimming from point A to point B.
