something messed up after updating. I recommend you to download 1.60 patch, and reinstall it again. It helped me, i had something similar, i'm also arma 2 steam user.

arma 2 has lesser servers, but enough players. Arma2.ru PvP/PvE/Warfare are mostly full, also HG's Chernarus Life (GTA like type of mission) being played from 30 to 50 players. arma 2 operation arrowhead, has insane amount of servers. Most popular server is [urban life] Takistan life (GTA like type of mission). Usualy 40-50 players, you will never get bored there.

instead of overclocking your ram, you could lower the timings, i have changed from 9-9-9-24 to 8-7-8-21, and got +0.1-0.2 points in windows 7 bench thingy. Works fine with standard 1.5 volts.

hmm thx. well yeah, happened on all driver versions i installed over last year period, and also CAP's. GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3; HDRPrecision=32; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=2124959744; nonlocalVRAM=1877524480; this is what i have in both arma 2 and OA. I have with very high vram setting.

i did try that "put some important pbs in your ram disc, it worked, all i can say, my performance got much worse with it, i had stutter and textures block preloading stuff. i used 4gb ramdisc filled with biggest arma 2 pbo's, loading of chernarus was quite faster for sure, but performance was awful.

Hi guys, ive bumped already in few posts, people saying, they use ramdisc to gain performance, by putting important pbo's into a ramdisc. Maybe i did understand something wrong, but if it's true, how to do this? Game will just crash at boot if some pbos are not present in game folder. Any help pls?

thx, will try. Seems to be working now, named folder @ramdisc, countains folder Addons with buildings etc. Also can see it under expansions. Maybe it loads faster now, but perforance is awful, swaps by rotating camera/moving etc. Perhaps it depends on ramdisc software, maybe need to try different one. just in case did crystal disk bench, results are not bad or?

thx will do maybe i did something wrong, but i see no performance gain after copying about 4gb addons in to ramdisc (chernarus, buildings, plants etc) Perhaps the performance even degreed. I see now that texture blocks at distant trees/buildings when i turn around. How i'm sure it is working right? Copied everything to ramdisc, then created addon folder and copied there - no changes.

the size does matter

just get any 2500k or 2700k intel sandy bridge processor, newest ATI 7970, and you'll be able to play arma 2 on max deiials, probably also arma 3 when it comes out. Nice to hear, there are even young people, that can figure out - BF and COD are simply to easy and mainstream, if you want real challenge - Arma is the only way to go! Welcome to our community ;)

why did you set textures to medium? Game never uses more then 720mb VRAM for me at very high detail and vram setting.

I don't think it it's possible, to stay simulation and yet being popular by masses. If you mix black and white, it becomes gray. What i mean is, it can be only one or another way: simulation or mainstream. And as you and i know, making simulation is sowhat harder then making a mainstream.

So your saying: But yet you still wish BI Studio going close to BF like mainstream games?

oh god! I hope you were sarcastic about this. Why should all fucking games be mainstream like BF and COD? Let at least 1 game exist, which differs from them, and gives you a different level of experience. Can you say BA or COD could be a hobby? Unlike many Arma 2 fans saying, arma 2 isn't a game - it is a hobby! Thats exactly what arma is!

ArmA 2 CO Steam user here, CO works like charm through steam, but with some mods, i had trouble runing CO, only OA were runing without arma 2 content. But many people are not smart enough to figure out, you can run arma's without steam. So what i did was copying Arma 2 OA over Arma 2 vanilla, then applying latest 1.60 patch - result is, it works like charm and no steam is necessary, only regedit tweak was necessary to show that OA is not in Arma 2 folder. So yeah, standalone is kinda confusing, especialy when your buying it through steam, it does install it in separate folders, and forces you to run this games through .bat file, not rly i was happy with. Why not make arrowhead as arma 2 expansion only, and only BAF and PMC as stantdalone games, which are called REINFORCEMENTS together? My point is: no need to make all addon's standalone, it's imo less pain in the ass.

I can play ArmA 2 with 30-45 FPS everything on very high 1920x1080 res (no AA) and 5000km view distance. In my understanding maxed out means: vis distance to 10km, 3D res to 200% (No AA needed with 200% unless ur crazy). So no, i can't play arma maxed out. In arrowhead i have to lower post process to high, ambient occlusion is a good fps killer also no vsync. All else is identical to Arma 2 on Takistanc map.

acutally in winter at night, you can see alot better cause of snow (and maybe becuase of something else)
