Armed Forces of the Altian Republic
kilroy the nerd replied to DreamRebel's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
If you add Secret Service, who will they guard? Will you make a new FIA version of Nikos as president/prime minister? Sounds good and looks good, although the first "blue camo" looks a bit too much like a hex pattern that could maybe be confused with CSAT urban camo. Also, it's confusing that you will continue to have both the Kuma and the Varsuk. Since they'd still have stockpiles of Kumas imported from ambiguous Southern European nation (according to field manual, even if it is German), it'd make plenty of sense to keep using them. I like that you're adding a cargo plane, the Yak-42 though. That's nice. Also, instead of Sochor the NATO donated artillery would be nicer. After all, where would they get more Sochors if they fought CSAT earlier? It's not like they can purchase from Iran. Likewise, it'd be fine and dandy if you used the A-164 as a CAS craft in favor of the Neophron. I'm not sure about Russia position in 2035 though, so maybe they're only interested in protecting their interests and selling weapons and vehicles to boost their economy. Maybe they'd get AH-1W Cobras, in the same way we donate aging F-15s to Saudi Arabia. If they just went through a conflict which would've aggrevated plenty of enemies, then they'll probably have a budget similar to Israel or South Korea, military wise. Besides, apparently the NATO equipment on Altis is aging compared to the Pacific equipment, if I remember anything from the opening of the campaign. So it won't be nearly as expensive then. OPFOR/INDFOR equipment being better would be even more reason for it to be pricey. And why change name? It's just a change of government. It'd be New Altis at best. All that said though, I hope development goes well. It'd be interesting have the new AAF fight pockets of the old, like an Iraqi sort of thing where Saddam supporters are still fighting the new government. -
I like realism, if it adds to gameplay. If MilSim level realism can bring a lot of fun, maybe bringing certain challenging limits and opening new opportunities in gameplay, then that's good. But if all it does is make the game feel boring or clunky, then no. Although, that second one is probably more about UI than realism (hint: action menu).

A Complete Arma 3 - Not That Far Away
kilroy the nerd replied to CaptainAzimuth's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Go kart DLC, a civilian fixed wing passenger plane (I dream for another Cessna-esque plane still), policemen and policecars ready in editor menus to match the boat, cargo planes, vans (there's already a wreck of one, why not a proper), buses, and tractors. That's contentwise, anyway. I don't think it's necessary to ask for features when so many others already have. -
I think some point earlier in this thread they mentioned they might just release an infantry pack until we get to a proper release. Something along those lines, anyway. Personally, I feel an army in Arma would be a bit empty without at least transports.

ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread
kilroy the nerd replied to max power's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I have a dream, a dream of a mod where I can play with Zeus like a strategy game without having to play with altitudes of units and such. A dream where I can spawn compositions of bases that function as barracks or such as seen in many RTS where they spawn units. I have a dream where this mod is highly modular in itself, allowing players to setup games in the way that suits the type of gameplay players want. TL;DR, I want an RTS mod that can be modded to go with certain kinds of RTS gameplay, ranging from such games like Wargame to games like Men of War. -
Anywhere but France again. As fun as storming the beach is, could we at least do it at a different locale?

Arma 3: Poltergeist -- Taking the 2035 setting and running with it.
kilroy the nerd replied to doln's topic in Arma 3 - MAKE ARMA NOT WAR CONTEST - SINGLEPLAYER GAME MODE
Looks interesting. Now we just need an AAF campaign to get every perspective. Well, unless we really need a campaign where we try to avoid AAF's massacre or a campaign where we play as an FIA soldier from a different army group. Awesome teaser though. Although I imagine it might be a bit troublesome, would it be possible to give Defender OS a Farsi translation so we can really feel like a CSAT soldier? -
Modular Construction Mod by NerdMod
kilroy the nerd replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
If it were possible to deploy pre-fabricated structures, then this would have some amazing applications in modes like Defiance or Warfare. Good luck with the making it good for mod support, the thought of using this in just about any situation just makes me happy.- 157 replies

Ending theories (Win related, spoilers of course)
kilroy the nerd replied to Holden93's topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
We know exactly who Miller works for, the United Kingdom government. This is made apparent multiple times when Kerry tells NATO about the UKSF, and again when Crossroads mentions the investigation and how it's way above his pay-grade. Also, you just need to see the British flags. For that matter, there's no way they could get the resources they have if they went rogue, so that's not really an excuse. That aside, that is true. Though, the only really benefit the tremornator 3000 has over nuclear weapons is being less blatantly obvious as a weapon created by man. And as soon as the info of the quake generators becomes public knowledge, with the help is gauges of seismic activity, it'll be easy to determine that it's unusual activity (unless perhaps timed with an actual quake, which would be redundant). Though, the taking of it would definitely cause as much of a panic as nuclear weaponry, only much worse since the public and even apparently major commanders within NATO were previously unaware. And as for ION, I just thought it'd be nice to have an actual faction for them, since they have the caps and everything. Though, then there'd have to be one for Raven PMC... Though, a campaign about two competing PMCs representing western and eastern interests would certainly be interesting. -
Even less games set in Korea, though! Speaking of which, Jeju, an island off the coast of South Korea, looks similarly sized to Altis and would make an interesting flashpoint, yes? In the map OP created, South Korea is even still aligned with NATO. Also, maybe Busuanga island amongst the Phillipines would be an island CSAT would use as an entry-point to the rest of the Phillipines, but it's clustered with a bunch of other smaller islands. Then again, it would be nice to have an island off the coast to launch invasions from. Looking back at the map again, on the Eastern side of Korea, there's still the island of Ulleung-eup which might be a better match size-wise. I still feel it's too hopeful to ask for large ships that aren't statics though. Especially for a functioning submarine, because if you pay careful attention, trying to dive down and stay down in an SDV without a rebreather has fatal results, regardless of whether or not hatch is closed.

Kaelies' South Zagorian Army Mod
kilroy the nerd replied to kaelies's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
What about an upgrade to a T-90? Frankly, I can't imagine the T-72 surviving in a world with small island nations having Leopard 2s. Likewise, T-72s should become a toy of a well funded militia I would imagine. BTR-40's would be a conscript's sort of MRAP, not like South Zagoria or CDF would use it. I think they would use BRDM-2s and M1114 humvees, respectively. I always thought the "Rifleman (Light)" was a conscript, and normal riflemen came on their own accord. It is weird that Takistan doesn't have a camo pattern though, even North Korea has plastic leaves taped onto the uniforms. Of course, none of this applies if you assume Takistan turned into a Japan or similarly US-occupied-then-let-loose-(mostly) country where they get US equipment and funding in turn for being a democracy. -
Ending theories (Win related, spoilers of course)
kilroy the nerd replied to Holden93's topic in ARMA 3 - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Evidently, MEDCOM wasn't made aware of CTRG's mission because it would attract too much attention. Britain was still clearly part of the taskforce, as visible in the ending dialogue and on the sign seen at Stratis's airbase, so it's not like they had split from NATO and tried to sabotage it for some unknown reason. That would explain why the invasion was sabotaged at least. That said, I think the remaining CSAT on Altis probably took over the HMS Proteus before Miller could depart and finish trying to get the Tremornator 3000 (assuming Ranger doesn't mind me taking the name for the quake generator), and from there they airlifted what they could from the area. Perhaps CSAT assassinated Akhanteros or any other commanders with intel on the research base to stop them from speaking on the subject, as they would probably be questioned by NATO on CSAT's presence, nevermind the trials on the AAF's war crimes. There's not much to say of the other ending, it's pretty much NATO is gone it would seem. Your only objective left is to attempt survival there. Though, for the first time in the campaign we actually encounter the police offroad. From this, maybe we can gather a clue as to what Miller did before he was doing secret stuff on Altis? Or maybe, it was a disguise, allowing him to get past AAF checkpoints, saying he was cop? Or maybe... I'm putting way too much thought into finally encountering a police offroad. Also, when did AAS/FIA contract ION? And why aren't they units available in the editor, being limited to caps saying ION? -
I find it easy to actually defend from the spec-ops. My issues start once I've killed the few around the HQ and you have to reach the crashed Blackfoot. I just place all my squad in the buildings around windows and the problem solves itself. I barely have to fire a shot.
-
I didn't find it that bad, but it was frustrating trying to get through some of the missions, and the ending is disappointing. I think the Win episode loses a lot of it's points because we know BIS could do better to finish off the story. Instead, we're left as confused as we were at the end of Adapt. All we're left with is either "oh well, looks like the free world is gone, CSAT rules everything." or the lame ending of "Akhanteros surrenders". You don't even get to participate in clean up, and CSAT just disappears, and they're quake generator never heard from again. That's why I give Win a 6/10.
-
I meant a police land vehicle ready in editor in the list of cars. Also to have it and the police boat updated to have a siren and "beacons" that actually illuminate the area to some degree. Even if it's a police go-kart. Also, to the post above mine, didn't Gastovsky own an airliner business after the war in Cold War Crisis? Maybe, Kerry retires to become a masterful go kart racer, and opens up his own track on Altis besides the one at the airport.
-
Yeah, I always found it odd we have a police boat but not a police car available in editor. Presumably AAF destroyed all the airliners at the main airport to stop enemies from escaping, but if that were the case the hangars would be full of wrecks. Also, if there are taxi signs, why are there no taxis? I really do hope the kart DLC is coming to Arma 3, racers included. For that matter, Orestes needs a motorcycle for the bike jacket. And a helmet. Say, a BMW GS series to run about in the sand and on road? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_GS
-
Very exciting. Although I personally find Zeus clunky still, it's awesome to see how missions are taking advantage of it. Kind of a shame that there's no Kumas though. Seems more like an insurgency than anything without them. Also, using helicopters to launch counter-attacks when the town is occupied and it takes too long to drive there would be nice.
-
Does that teaser also mean the Middle East insurgents will get the Military Offroad technicals from Arma 2: OA?
-
Kind of sad that those maps need A3MP, but I can't really blame as Chernarus assets would definitely make it look more normal, what with colder weather and all. Also, seeing how nice these maps are and how servers or mission makers might want to use them with vanilla units or other such mods, it'd would be nice to see SFP not a dependency.
-
Apparently it's the Wildcat, according to the dev who's making the campaign.
-
For a name, what about: Natural Selection? Seeing as only the best soldiers would survive such an attack (as shown by super soldier elite/random outpost guard Kerry). Frankly, final effort catches me as the name for the last mission more than a campaign. Names aside, good luck with the project. It sounds like it'll be pretty good stuff.

The A-164 WIPEOUT Fixed Wing Aircraft
kilroy the nerd replied to carlostex's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
EDIT: nvm, didn't properly look through second page Still, if the Marshall can load different round types in combat surely they've developed some way for aircraft, yes? -
Kaelies' South Zagorian Army Mod
kilroy the nerd replied to kaelies's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
BMP-3 would be more suiting for Russian faction I think. Otherwise, seems nice. Also, could UAZ weapon variants be added to combat the upcoming BMP2s? The SPG, mainly. Dshkm would be a nice bonus. Also, Kaelies, why not just use the US forces already ingame? No need to make a brand new US Army unless this is 2014 era, not 2035. -
Star Trek: Road to the Stars
kilroy the nerd replied to abs's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
While questionable that it sounds like a submarine outside, it's looking great. Fire torpedoes! Also, though it'd probably be difficult to make in Arma 3, wouldn't Jupiter be both bigger and big enough to have pulled the U.S.S. Enterprise into it's gassy prison? :P I can't find the Facebook page, though. Linky linky? -
Liking the new track stadium. Mmmm, we can finally have the Arma Olympics in track! Altis Leisure Center. Still, I can't see the Ghost Hotel. EDIT: Nvm, it's in the shot where the Wipeout's gun illimunates it.
