How to improve the Close Quarter Combat experience in Arma 3?
LackLustreSurvivor replied to Intezar's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I've had some sort of CQB with ai in ArmA 2. but only achieved with one or two ai mods. I think it's slx and zeus ai. The moment they see you in a window they will fire and continue suppressing. and sometimes get into the building and try to take you out. I'm sure ArmA 3 has some sort of CQB after all pretty much every building is enterable now. Also I do remember one of the Dev's stating that the AI have faster reactions and don't calculate every single object on the map to decide where to move or where to throw a grenade. And the weapon collision in ArmA 3 is better as far as I've seen in the videos. Not 100% sure though. Vaulting over low walls and through windows would be fantastic. As long as it's not in slow motion. Climbing over high walls and seamless ladder climbing would be great too... I despise ladders so much because of the fact it takes forever to get onto a ladder and off. it's the same for vehicles as well. Just stating my opinion. -

I tried to check if this was mentioned before, But to no avail. So I'll do so myself, I think the ArmA series needs to get rid of the side menu for interaction like getting into vehicles and climbing ladders etc. Why is it so hard not to have an automatic climb of the ladder just walk up to it and keep holding W and you're up like every other game out there. We've had this since OFP... And same thing with vehicles, And please don't argue that you'll have difficulty choosing a place to sit in the vehicle, The Battlefield series has done it right since 1942. I'm an all out ArmA fan but I think the ArmA series needs to take the good things from other games and not rely entirely on their own ideas. As I'm sure all of you would love to have an automatic interaction with ladder, And having the control to climb down or up using W & S and to jump off if necessary. The main thing is automatic interaction is needed. And for vehicles a single button would be fine if you sit in the wrong seat then just have the ability to press 1,2,3,4 etc to change seats just like Battlefield it would make things a LOT faster and less complicated. -

AI occupying buildings and using them for cover. Right now the AI are terrified of stepping inside a door.... Unless I use the Zeus addon or some other AI addon of that nature. And a new lighting system as others have stated if not a new lighting system at least improve it.... Right now shadows aren't forming correctly as well as light... For example I had behind a low wall and the sun is a low half of my body is in shadow and half is not. And there are many other examples. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Well their 8 GB sticks they had didn't have some "heat resistance" properties to be honest I think that's BS but anyway... and their 3x2 ram sticks did. down the line if I really need an SSD and more ram I'll get it :) So if I can run ArmA 2 on almost max I'm sure I can do so on other games and especially ArmA 3 I hope.... the price of this PC is 1.645 euros -

I was actually gonna go for a 600W PSU but they told me not to do so don't know why... I had also ordered a 500GB Caviar Blue but they didn't have it in stock so they gave me a call and offered me the Seagate option. Pity =/ but It's what I was recommended and can't change anything now as I have ordered the PC already. -

Yeah an SSD is on my list but unfortunately the new PC is already reaching almost 2K euro.... it's 1.600 something and just can't afford an SSD right now. But that will definitely be on my list. -

Realistic bullet holes in walls with normal maps applied instead of the flat black dots we're getting.... How hard is it to create an alpha, diffuse and normal map texture as bullet holes... could of been done with ArmA 2 & Blood effects like SLX but with better textures would really be nice. And with customization having the option to have goggles, or some stuff on your helmet like a goggle sock/cover, Option to have the goggles at facing backward. Optional netting on the helmet. All customization would be nice and not just fixed with just 2-3 helmet and armor variations. Although body armour is a bit more difficult to customize in IMHO.... I don't think CO's would allow you to add whatever you want to them. But i'm no soldier so I can't say anything about that. Weapon overheat and jam would be nice as well, And definitely better animations of weapons would be nice like battlefield, COD etc. That's the only real thing I like about those games. They have realistic reloads while we don't.... Even America's Army has proper reloads and it's a free game... Come on BIS :) I'm sure you can make some really good looking weapon animations/reloads unjamming etc. -

What do you mean? I only chose the video card and CPU and the rest was recommended to me by the company i'm ordering from. -

Takistani National Army
LackLustreSurvivor replied to Clavicula_nox4817's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Really nice and enjoying the units. Been using them to simulate a takistani civil war. I think DCU helmet covers on the regular troops would be a nice addition although I know you wanted to keep them kind of low end troops... And the steel helmet simulates that. But if you ever do decide to add helmet covers to them just make sure to remove the specular map of the helmet or it would look weird with a shiny helmet cover =). -
J.S.R.S. 1.5
LackLustreSurvivor replied to LordJarhead's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Definitely going to keep the mod on my hard drive! So different yet so much better than the previous J.S.R.S! As others said though I did find battles far away a little silent but not always funny enough... I really appreciate the amount of work you put into this I don't see why you don't work for BIS and teach them a something or two about making sounds actually sound realistic. I really like the bullet pops and cracks and many other mods don't do that or don't implement it properly, I hope though that you'll get rid of the need for the vehicle for the script to work etc. But if not it's no problem good luck with the mod and enjoy all the praise from your fans! And have a merry christmas and a happy new year. "pops in the distance...." =D 1.4 here we come! Oh and have any of you noticed that these sound slightly similar to the America's Army 3 sounds? The distant pops though. -

LackLustreSurvivor replied to LordJarhead's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I agree, Jarhead needs his break and I don't think anybody can ask him to continue working on it for now especially after all this hard work. I had my samples pretty low so maybe that could be why I don't hear much in battles but still the new sounds are fabulous. -

LackLustreSurvivor replied to LordJarhead's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Fantastic that you managed to release this with perfect timing :D! My only issue is that the weapons sound a little weak but it may be just my ears getting used to the epic new version. I do find the distant pops to be a little low maybe you could raise those slightly. Otherwise fantastic mod and it's awesome! This may be some inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dASEg-EenEI&list=PL8C37447F5C26EE55&index=2&feature=plcp Edit: I just had a major battle using the mod and the new afghanistan released by McNools. Fantastic mod but a lot of problems going on I was seeing tracers everywhere bullet impacts in the dirt etc but the battlefield was practically silent, most gun shots weren't heard only a few guns are audible in the distance. Otherwise I just see flying tracers with no shot sounds or "pops" I'd also like to say the bullet cracks/pops could be a little bit improved. But besides that it's a good improvement and really professional! I hope that you could use these tips for your next version =) Edit 2: I just noticed it needs CBA which I have and also needs a vehicle for the distant sounds to work, Will test it tomorrow to see if the distant sounds work. -

McNools you're awesome! Really well done! I have never been to afghanistan but this is the most believable afghanistan map I've ever played on. Everything looks natural and realistic. You have placed the compound walls and buildings a lot better than BIS did with Takistan. Definitely what I've always wanted and top quality. Gonna be one of those maps I tend to play constantly over and over and over. -
WIP: Stuff you are working on 2!
LackLustreSurvivor replied to max power's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hello, I'm new here to this topic so cheers everyone! To get started I have been modelling for 4 or so years. I use Blender for my modelling, Sculptris for sculpting and Photoshop CS2 for texturing. I haven't really modded or got my models in any game except Warband which I am sure some of you have heard about. Anyhow I'm not just keen on modding games... I'd like to actually know how to make models appropriate for gaming that are game ready and good quality. And hopefully one day I'll land a job as a game artist so I hope. Anyway to get to the topic, I've tried at least twice to model a soldier and failed both times. I just can't get the quality as good as others but anyway I suppose a HP model and then a retopo should work. Here's some of the work I've made: About the M16 was it a mistake modelling it in so many pieces? -
I have always struggled to model weapons especially guns either they just don't look good or I feel that they mine aren't modelled correctly. And now some really important questions I wish someone could answer. 1. Is it important to model a gun with every part intact except for moving parts? for example must the butt stock be attached/extruded from the lower/upper receiver? 2. Is it important to model a gun high poly with all the detail you can create and then bake that detail onto a lower res model? Or are most game weapons especially Arma's low poly modelled? 3. Which is the best way to model a gun? Box modelling or poly by poly? I know that there are many methods out there but I am just tired of feeling my gun models are badly modelled as some people tell me what matters the most is the end result but others also tell me that I've made a lot of mistakes. I have been modelling for 5 years now (self taught) but haven't gotten serious till 2-3 years ago. Here's some of my weapons I modelled and obviously all WIP as I can't seem to finish them for the above reasons... I keep questioning if I'm doing it wrong or not.

If they ever decide to have ArmA 3 on consoles it must NOT be ported to the PC instead it should be the other way round as no one likes a toned down console game on PC it'll just ruin the franchise. Shooting out of vehicles and walking inside of vehicles depending if you can IRL then it should be implemented as I find it really boring how you're static in an AC130 or a truck etc... Ok it may be weird having a bunch of guys walking around in the back of a truck but that's where being able to sit on any seat you're looking at should come in. -

Working body armour is a must although they stated that in the feature list. They mentioned 3 things: Improved wounding system ( no specifics for now ), Headgear will offer different levels of projectile protection, balistic vest and backpacks. Those hint that a lot about working body armour but still nothing directly saying "Working Body Armour" But if they don't include that I think it's pointless then to be able to choose a body vest or not other than to look "cool" Since they said Headgear will provide some protection I hope that they'll make body armour work so if you get shot in the chest you won't bleed and you won't shake uncontrollably as if you were injured obviously a person would shake a bit but not as if they were shot without body armour. Also It would be nice if you get shot in the body armour you don't just stand there as if nothing happens you fall down but get back up again. It may be abused though as a feature but if implemented correctly it could work nice. Also A feature I'd really like is survivable helicopter or plane crashes depending on height and speed yes we have it already but not exactly realistically as a helicopter touching a tree makes the helicopter blow up? I don't think so. body armour Videos: -

3D scope sights! I don't know if that's mentioned already but I did search and didn't find anything. I think ArmA needs 3D scope sights now especially since many other games have it.... and I think 2D scopes should become obsolete. -

I don't know if it's because i'm using ArmA 2 CO but when I call in for Artillery support or airstrikes and stuff like that I hear only parts of the message for example "Shot, Out!" I hear only Out and this "Target Location Received, HE Strike, Is Inbound, Out" and All I hear is Out.... so i'm not hearing the whole message at all unlike this video...
