    Overclocking CPU

One thing to also consider with overclocking is stability and what You actualy gain.Your not going to see a world of difference between 3.4 and 3.8 IMO.I wonder if you will see much if any difference in game.I'm not saying this knowing for fact but I played with my I7 2700k from 3.8 to 4.4ghz and in arma2 there was barely a difference that I could detect. As a Matter of fact the game plays much better on the system I have now at 3.0ghz- 3.3ghz.That is mostly the gtx580 doing the work but I tried it with the 6970 before I sent it back and I just didn't notice a world of difference until I changed the video card.I am mostly clueless with overclocking as well and will probably do more research to try and safely bump mine up but there are a lot of things to consider like component life,Heat buildup, etc, etc. I question if its worth it.
  2. I realy like all the adjustments the gtx580 can do on the hardware side.So far the games Ive played are way better than the 6970 but again I think it has more to do with some type of defect in my 6970.On the other hand I know the gtx580 has some serious muscle with the AA and tessilation side.Flighsimulator X will be the true test to see if my 6970 was deffective. I could not get FSX to look good with ground textures at all no matter what I set in game or on hardware. It looked like bad lines of distortion or something and just looked horrible and nowere near as good as a lot of the videos I have seen with lesser hardware. Now I have to start playing games again instead of all this messing around :) I'm so used to having so many problems to figure out,Now I need to start relaxing and playing the game again. Thanks for the help guys. Maybe this will help someone else as well
  3. O.K. so I got my new rig for arma 2. I have an i7 2600k(4.4-4.7ghz) with 750 ultra powersupply.asusp8p67 pro MB with 8gb of corsair xmp memory and 6970 card. Now get this-One day I had perfect NON stutter in the OA 08 benchmark with at least 59 fps. That day has come and gone and now I get stutter all the time in that benchmark.I have toyed with ALL of the card settings,All the overclocking-memory settings, and complete windows-Game reinstall. It doesn't seem to matter how low or how High I go with the gpu.the stutter is there. So You know I also have a 1tb WD corvair black HD. .I don't mind the benchmarks not being perfect but the other night My online performance sucked(I will admit it could be internet related).I will check again with my friend online to see if the stutter is crossing over to gameplay. So far the single player and editor is great I have confirmed that. Its just the fact that I have seen the 08 benchmark perform perfect before on this system and I was hoping i could keep it that way. That and I want my online experience to be good. I will try again ;) I have done lots of searches but nobody comes to the same solutions.I have considetered disabling the multthreading(if possible) to see what happens. All other games ROCK so far with this setiup.ARMA2 is of course the best game evere so I was hoping I get it sorted out.I will try to play some coop again and see what happens but thge other night was real bad. Thanks for any advice or input on this.I know this topic is always talked about but I figured being the newest sytems going I find it interesting that even with the newest hardware the issue is still here.I'm hoping its my ignorance that is the problem and there is a way around this.IKnowing this much ...I know my hardware can do it because it has before. Now what in the hell changed to cause the performance to degrade!?!I updated windows and to the latest sapphire drivers.I can't imagone that did it because I reinstalled the system several times with no results.Registry?BIOS?WTF?
  4. I gotta say in the Unigine DX11 Heaven benchmark the 580 completely crushes my 6970.
  5. I'm not sure realy because my friends setup did,t have this issue. It seems like a hit or miss type thing. One thing for sure is the 6970 is capable of awesome stuff but I think my gtx580 has more power for setting things higher. The 08 benchmark doesn't stutter anymore yet the PMC 1st mission still does at times(I think its just more the game engine in that level)Thats about it.I like that setting AA on or higher doesn't even barely effect framerate much that I can notice(of course it does but on the 6970 it had a very negetive impact on performance). If the 6970 is working it is a much better deal for Price/Performance IMO. The gtx580 isn't worth the much higher cost but that being said I am very glad I have it if that makes sence :) .It realy does have some muscle thats for sure and for some reason everything on my system looks better. Its probably just something little that wasn't right with my 6970 I am guessing. All and all I couldn't be more happy. It cost me a ton to get here but thats not my fault LOL. I had Motherboard /cpu issues from the start and then it just got worse from there until I replaced everything
  6. O.K. HaHa,It was the last component! I changed the memory with no difference,So Then I changed out the card. . . . . LET ME JUST SAY WOW! That was the problem Everything in my system is better with the gtx580.My background Ferraris are photo realistic now.My text is clear on my 52 inch samsung. The 08 benchmark 1st pass was 60FPS with mostly normal settings with ZERO stutter! There was something wrong with my 6970 I am guessing. It did well in most games but ARMA2 exposed its issues for me lol.I know my buddies 6970 works great for him(and yes in crossfire as well).I must have got a faulty one.It had an issue with the memory loading stuff I'm going to guess. Ohh and my system memory has not been optomized yet and I'm only running 3.2ghz(Yes i Know that is plenty fast enough). I'm so fricken happy!!! I still havn't tested the PMC mission but I have confidence the problem is gone considering how smooth the 08 benchmark is now. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Just got my GTX460...New Game...!

Ive been having system issues.Thankfully My new i7 950 is way more stable than the i7 2600k.Now I am hoping Later tonight I have all my arma issues go away(gtx580 and memory swap). For me its been a bad stutter in gameplay and benchmarks. I hear more and more most people have a more flawless experience using Nvidia cards with ARMA2.That is my hope
  8. The only problem with this theory is My buds system is I7 2600k and ATI 6970.His runs great and he is very picky with graphics, etc. Maybe by chance the player you mentioned has some other variable in his systems making him come to His conclusion. Just like the issue I am having,I come to all kinds of conclusions until I find I was wrong on all of them so far lol.I have to wonder about the memory. It is possible I think ,and I will find out soon enough. I am hoping I come back on after tomorrows overhaul all jazzed about my system working properly.Even then I may not have answers as to what was the problem but Hopefully I can at least play my favorite game properly. If Not I will dissect this software and hardware settings until my brain bleeds! I'm just taking advantage of my 30day return guarantee while I can ,and I know my buds system works good So I there for know something is up with mine.
  9. Will try that after I put the kids to bed :) .I think Ive already tried this a bunch of times but I will try it on purpose just to make sure.Tankbuster,I see your running the i7 2600k with low latency memory(7.7.7.20).What are you running for GPU if you don't mind me asking, and from the UK have you had decent online play with us over here? I have a friend in Australia that had a decent connection to me here in Maine,USA.
  10. I'm thinking more and more its the memory or something.Maybe it is in the software somehow ..The funny thing is I set everything very high in 1080 and empty maps are flawless until I start flying around in a Heli were things have to be loaded. It then starts to do the pause/stutter thing. It acts like its a hardrive loading issue but I know it can't be that. That is what makes me suspect the memory maybe??? Its something that keeps things from being loaded on time. The SSD drive didn't do squat except make stuff load up faster(OS and programs, etc). I don't get it.The framerate is fine and even perfect most of the time ,its just the jitter/stutter thing that drives me nuts and it does it whenever your fighting in towns and stuff. It does it realy bad on that 1st PMC mission. That is UNPLAYABLE.It is realy bad when you go from realy smooth framerate and then all of a sudden have pauses and crap.I have proven its nothing to do with the Motherboard and CPU as well as the Hardrive and ssd drive.I suspected the video card but when I see everything look so good and play perfect outside those missions It makes me doubt that again. The Memory is the same memory from my other system.Maybe,Just MAYBE I have faulty memory? Tomorrow I will know for sure

    New 6970 and 10.12 drivers

11.2 and He hasn't mentioned any crash's to me.Lately He hasn't been playing ARMA2 all the time so I'm not sure what would happen if He did. I will mention it to him though

    New 6970 and 10.12 drivers

My buddy said his rig is super smooth in ARMA2 oa crossfire with 2 6970's .Its expensive as hell though.Good powersupply and 2 cards = $$$$$$. His I7 2600k is fine with it though even in 8X + 8X .
  13. Brand new WD carvair black drive,Now a brand new SSD drive with same exact results. The stutter you have I would expect in an extremely taxing environment with lots of AI and plains flying around etc. The stutter I have makes the game unplayable. In the 08 benchmark it will go smooth then stop(jolt) and go .Like you said it seems like a hardrive issue but its not.Now I have a brand new Motherboard and CPU and its doing the same. Its nice to know the original poster of this thread had his questions answered though.I will have my questions answered come Monday :) (new memory and GTX580)
  14. LOL!!! No ,I wish my I7 2600k had that much smoothness when it came to the stutter ;). No ,The stutter is more like a Jerking stutter making the game completely unplayable(very smooth and then all of a sudden jerky and unstable). Now My I7 950 does about the same.I have confirmed all the cores are ramping up like they should. Before I sent my I7 2600k back(when it refused to even post) It was running One core and doing the same. Before that all cores were working. I don't know WTF is doing it for sure but I am almost 100% convinced its either my 6970 or the memory not agreeing with arma2 .Monday We will see(gtx580 and different memory on the way). I KID YOU NOT.My stutter is 100% worse than that video!! That stutter is at least consistent! The stutter I had is like very bad lag.It would jerk the screen so many feet at a time.It would make things look like the game was going to crash. Now new motherboard and CPU and the same,Don't you find that suspicious? :Oo: .In my case I believe there is something wrong with the hardware and I will find out what it is. Its down to Memory,GPU,and Powersupply that could possibly be the problem on the hardware side.Ohh and Yes I have tried the mouse smoothness ,Upping the responsiveness as well as lowering it,using defaults and using joystick only. ---------- Post added at 09:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 PM ---------- Hey,easyC Could you go check out the 1st PMC mission and do the same thing(pan left and right) and see if in the mission you get any bad Stutter(especially as you progress through the mission with all the explosions, etc)? Maybe run a video of the 08 benchmark for us if you have the time? I am very curious how others results are with that 08 benchmark and the PMC 1st mission. Thanks ---------- Post added at 09:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:10 PM ---------- Between both my systems I don't believe that is it but come Monday if I don't have this fixed I will try forcing 2 cores. I believe the game is already doing this properly but I will try more to see if this helps. And so everybody knows I have tried disabling Hyperthreading on both systems and it didn't do squat. Thanks though

    New 6970 and 10.12 drivers

My buddy and I have almost identical rigs(6970).He runs the game no problem before and after running in crossfire on his I7 2600k.I on the other hand have had issues with major stutter and a complete system failure(sent MB and cpu back). I have many times been able to get my FPS up and past 60 fps though @ 1080 with settings at least mostly high if not higher. Its just Major jolting unplayable stutter that kills it for me. Not sure if its the card or not but Monday I will be throwing the gtx580 in when the UPS guy delivers it after I do the memory swap 1st and test that.I would double check power supply(something I may have to do to if all my other efforts fail).Something is deffinately wrong if You cant get up beyond 20-30FPS with a 6970. Double check the PS to the motherboard as well.Any chance the card is in the wrong PCIe16 slot? Well good luck

    How old are Arma2 Players?

36 yrs old and enjoyed editing/playing online with the original OFP on xbox and a little on the PC.NOW I'M BACK! :bounce3: ---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 PM ---------- Very cool :)
  17. Will do.Tonight I should get my order in(usually after 4:00est for UPS). I just don't want to believe it could possibly be software related knowing I have tried a clean install of windows 7 pro 64bit and only Steam/ARMA2 OA, .The same as my friend but he has windows 7 premium only.Ive also tried it offline without steam and its the exact same thing.I have my suspicions that its something in the card that isn't quite right but it could be the memory or Powersupply I guess. We will see ---------- Post added at 01:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:09 PM ---------- Ohh wait,,Never mind Its Saturday and I wasted money on overnighting my package :( . I'm so obsessed with getting this done I lost track of time and ordered my stuff on a Friday Again  .Monday it is... I am a ARMAHOLIC and I do have a problem(there I admitted it lol) . Well Until then I might as well keep trying some software tweaks maybe or work on my Missions in the editor.Yes I think learning some more scripting is a good idea ;) .

Why is this game not more popular?

I wish it was because I want Bohemia to have every reason to keep going with this like they have all these years.Operation Flashpoint and ARMA2/OA are the reasons I got a computer again for gaming.Bohemia has taken every good thing that makes this game great over the years and held onto it while improveing everything else they could. I so wish they keep coming out with DLC that is good with objects and maps for the mission editor.I will gladly pay. It is the best game in existence!!! This game and this game alone is worth buying a PC for. They may not be the riches developers or even close but they have created the best game of all time IMO.They have stayed true to the game and to there fans.I wish somehow it will pay off more and more for them as it has for my enjoyment of the game :) . Now if I could just get my damn current system to run it right! gtx580 tomorrow :) Its the COOP mission building that makes OFP/ARMA2 so special. It is unlimited if you are willing to dedicate to it.A pain in the A$$ sometimes to try and figure out how to do something but its worth it when in the end You and your buddies have a blast playing the missions together
  19. Tried taking out the sticks of memory before and done everything everyone else has suggested while sometimes trying it more than once(especially with all the settings).THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG! I'm not sure how major or minor but something deffinetly wrong. The stutter is major at times making the game completely unplayable(PMC 1st mission and other town area missions mimics the 08 Benchmark with the major stutter).Like I said before the stutter is like major lag at times when you play online but it does the same thing offline. It will go smooth for a few seconds or more and then just jolt and in game it isn't noticable at 1st but it gets ugly fast when searching for the body in town on mission 1 of PMC.It will be smooth and then just F-up to all hell and make it realy frustrating when trying to aim. Here are some things I have tried LOL---- Again different drivers, Completely uninstalling the catylst and tried the same drivers My buddy has.11.1-11.2 and one other earlier one(10.- something). 2 different monitors and cables running through HDMI and DVI-VGA, 2-4 sticks of duel channel Mem(4gigs-8gigs) Making ARMA2 priority in task bar, SSD drive, uninstalling OS mutiple times while only installing ARMA and NO VIRUS SOFTWARE, formatting hardrive mutiple times as well, MOUSE and KEYboard swaps,Joystick only, puting card in different slots, Changing Memory settings in bios including X.M.P. profiles and backing down as well(confirmed both bios detect the timing of my memory), High speed and low speed GPU settings fan speed, Catylyst settings of every single setting you can think of and back to default MANY TIMES!!!, stock clocked, overclocked, i7 2600k with p8p67,i7 950 with current rampage III extreme, and probably more I can't think of right now . I will have 6 gigs of triple Patriot viper X 8.9.8.8.24 memory claiming to be designed for x58 systems and a nice EVGA gtx 580 sitting on my doorstep tomorrow. I'm guessing and hoping my issues go away tomorrow ;) Thanks again and hopefully This nightmare will be over. I HAVE TO PLAY ARMA2 !!! Sometimes you goto go to extremes to be happy.I am passionate about this game so I decided early on I was going to do anything I had to in order to play it right. What I had should have played it great but I have had non stop problems from the start.Sometimes that is the way it goes. From the faulty p8p67 pro and Sandybridge nightmare to something else wrecking the experience for me lol. Whatever  Tomorrow is a new day ---------- Post added at 11:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:16 PM ---------- Obvious Yes but it can be easily overlooked I know. I know were your going with this and my buddy and I extensively tried Every single thing you could imagine so many times, in so many ways. For weeks now  Thankyou though. ---------- Post added at 11:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:23 PM ---------- Have you tried it in the 1st PMC mission were there are all the mortar strikes constant and when your searching for a body? Alot of the other missions are O.K. its just that mission is just stupid unplayable and other PMC missions that have a lot going on in a small area (like when you are blowing up barricades and meeting your SUV convoy). Like I said before ,My Wifes duel core 5700ish whatever walmart computer with 4350 was never this unstable. ---------- Post added at 11:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 PM ---------- Yup and its not the 1st time I have thought about this. It is wierd my buddys system is fine for whatever reason and My system was perfect for like a day or one or 2 times in the benchmark 08 without a stutter.Thats it! That is the only time I remember this working good. Now it is in game in any area it gets at all congested. Why His is good and mine is just F-ed up I don't know and may never know. All I do know is tomorrow if my memory swap doesn't do anything,I will be opening up that gtx580 with confidence the issue will go away ;).If it doesn't I'm gonna start getting realy drunk and pull the powersupply next HaHa :j: (kidding about getting wasted)
  20. Yes the 1st board was the p67 p8p67 pro. Now I have the ASUS rampage 3 extreme. The powersupply is a Ultra LSX 750wt and I would think it should be O.K. but I guess That is the only thing left to point the finger at if the memory and card doesn't fix it. The other games play fine(well on this board and cpu,the last setup everything was going to hell before it died) I just don't know what to think.I have the Videocard(6970), Memory, and Powersupply left from last system. Its one of them :) . As far as settings I have tried everything under the sun for settings including lowering the resolution from 1920.I have set them all to low and settings to very low and still have the jolting stutter effects. It actualy seems to smooth out the higher I set the card and this one puzzles my friend with the same system. He's just like WTF???
  21. .I'm ready to order a card tomorrow if I don't have luck with the memory.I talked to Tigerdirect and they ensure Me its no problem returning the card(within 30 days) as long as I order another one(any card) to replace it 1st(as in buy again before They refund my return on the one shipped back to them).I don't have a problem with that and I will either order the 570 or 580 if I do. I just am running out of things to blame. What I still just don't get is my buddies system is fine(6970,i7 2600k,WD black HD). It just leads me more and more to believe something is wrong with the hardware but I know its not the cpu/motherboard now at least. I realy just want to see more benchmarks with the Nvidia products running arma2.It looks like the 580 has the best power and FPS over the 6970 but I'm not sure of that. Either way I just need the damn game to be playable! Ohh I have also run just joystick,2 sets of wireless keyboards(and adjusted all the in game settings and sencitivities)and run a wired keyboard and mouse as well with no difference. New Motherboard and CPU and the game does the same thing! The stutter is more of a jolting effect. It will be smooth and then holt and move almost like when you have bad lag online. Even my wifes duel core with the 4350 didn't do this lol! Thanks and I'll let you know what I figure out. ---------- Post added at 09:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 PM ---------- For all I know the CPU is fried. The MB won't post.I don't think you want it ;)
  22. O.K. I have my rig up and going and had confidence things would be better but they are maybe slightly better at best. The I7 950 and motherboard were changed along with an SSD drive and the game does the same exact thing with the Bad stutter and last night my PMC play was horrible but maybe a little better than last time.Settings don't matter and if anything the harder I push the card the more stable the Stutter and slowdown is.I have narrowed this problem down to one of 2 things I think it could be.My Memory is funky or my Graphics card is wacky. The thing that I don't understand is Left4dead2 seems awesome and so does Dirt2.It seems there is nothing wrong with the card and AGAIN my friend with his i7 2600k ,6970,carvair black HD has no problems running the benchmarks without stutter and jumpiness. In game he says its very smooth except for the occasional normal slowdown here and there.I can live with that but whats happening now is unplayable. I just ordered up some patriot viper 6G 1600mhz 8.9.8.8.24 latency which is what He is using without issues(sending my memory back). After that I will return my card if I have to LOL. It just doesn't make any F-in sence unless something is wrong. I have replaced the entire Motherboard/CPU/SSD drive and the only things left from my last system is the memory and Video card. Isn't that just funny this system acts almost(well quite the same realy)exactly the same way? BTW Tried 11.2 drivers and the same exact thing.
  23. Yes my I7 2600k was terrible with the stutter but my system did just die(as in won't even post) so that could have something to do with it lol. I got 60+ FPS and it didn't matter how low or high I changed settings.I did this battle with arma since day one with my system. My Wifes 2.6 ghz duel core has none of the issues My I7 2600k had(as in massive stutter in towns and Non open areas especially when turning towards the action).. My friend however has no issues with the same system as my Sandybridge I7 2600k(GPU,CPU,HD).I figured it could be my wireless mouse and keyboard but nope the wired mouse and keyboard does the same thing. Tomorrow I get another CPU(i7 950) and Board(ASUS Rampage III Extreme) to try out .We will see then.I suspect most of the Horrible 08 benchmark and PMC Close quarters stuff/STUTTER to go away.Ohh and an SSD too. Fingers crossed!
  24. Have you toyed with ati Cataylst?Or tried adjusting AA,etc in game display menu? With all my recent i7 2600k issues I did still notice huge differences pushing settings back and forth from more gpu setup(as in AA settings and stuff on the hardware to more in game setup(letting ARMA2 do the AA,etc. I don't think video memory very high will help much(high maybe?). I see you have AA off.Probably that will help but I gotta say sometimes lowering settings makes performance worse. At least it did on my 6970 with a lot of things
  25. After cooling down today I did some more research. I did just what You mentioned and changed my mind yet again ;) . I went with the i7 950 and the Asus rampage 3 extreme board. I do want the best I can afford right now and I figure this will be very good. Its been around a while and proven a performer. Next time I will NOT buy new untested equipment all at once(New cpu, gpu, and motherboard designs). You are correct on that for sure.At least this time lol. Now tomorrow I have to turn back the AMD and board(payed the shipping for nothing) .Ive been so frustrated lately I lost all patience  . We will soon see if the stutter is gone then,At least playable. I think more and more it was the equipment failure causing the BAD,VERY BAD stutter at times..It makes sence to me because my buddies same rig(HD,GPU,CPU,MB) is fine. Thanks for the help and I will let you peeps know how the new rig runs. Maybe this time around I will get a good ARMA2 rig!!!???
