In the editor, when you give a soldier a rank that the rank shows on the soldier's icon. . .

Some people always play in first person mode, I prefer to play in 3rd person mode. In third person mode, hold down Ctrl and move the mouse left and right and your character is looking to the left and right as he is patrolling/driving what ever. .

1. Yes its available on Steam. 2. About 6 months ago. . .

The manual and the tutorials are incomplete. The manual talks about the Action Menu ( press spacebar ) when it should say select menu "6" to do that thing. Menu "6" is very useful. I had the game 6 months and had read the manual 3 times and gone through the basic tutorials a half dozen times - before I found - by accident - the usefullness of menu "6". . .

PMC has a fabulous map! It also has new weapons and new characters. The only add-on I have ever wished for in any game is new maps. . .

If they were 2 separate games and they both cost $100 each then BAF is better. Both are very cheap and both are great! Get Reinforcements ( both in one package). .

ARMA 2: OA 1.60, ARMA 2 1.11, ARMA 2: Free 1.11, ARMA 2: BAF 1.03, ARMA 2: PMC 1.02
Joe98 replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
In the read-me it says: 1.60 brings Arma 2 from 1.05 - 1.60 So I suspect you need to install 1.05 first. . -
Most strangest, funny or wierdest things that has happened to you in arma 2
Joe98 replied to bestrangerdx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I was patrolling the outskirts of a village in Takistan and some enemy appeared about 50 meters away. I took cover behind a small rock. Unable to move I lobbed a grenade. The aiming point was to my front and there were no trees to my front. The grenade started to fly forward then flew backwards and to my right and detonated just near me! I wondered later if an enemy bullet might have struck the grenade! . . -

I recently bought Combined Operations. So what is the correct installation sequence? Install Arma 2 Install patch 1.05 Install Operation Arrowhead Install Reinforcements Install patch 1.60 . -
Regarding mortars. In real life it keeps their heads down. But in the game, the enemy seems to get scared or get killed. They don't appear to "keep their heads down" as such. . .

Aircraft Controls Question
Joe98 replied to aardvark892's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Actually I know nothing about flying and I cannot fly the helicopters or aircraft in the game. Have played around with keyboard settings to no effect. Sometimes I want my aircraft, now flying north, to turn a bit without changing altitude. Sometimes I want my helicopter, to move forward without changing altitude. Looking for a crash course in Arma2 flying! . . -
Basic command: Walk...where is it?
Joe98 replied to bullman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
But if you give them the "safe" order that uis very dangerous as there could be enemy around. . . -
Are you a wargamer? I doesn't matter whether you are commanding 3 men, 3 teams, 3 squads, 3 platoons 3 companies its basically the same. Use heavy weapons to plaster the ground, Group 1 assaults through, Group 2 in reserve to follow up the assault and Group 3 provides rear guard or else fire support from a long distance or maybe provides some other thing as the case may be. . .

Basic command: Walk...where is it?
Joe98 replied to bullman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I too have found this. When you order members of your team to move over there, they always run. There does not seem to be a "patrol to that spot" order. . . -
. . The various patches to date are all very confusing. I understand that this is a beta patch and the final patch has not yet been released. Imagine a person bought a new computer today and installs: 1. Arma 2 as a stand-alone game. Will 1.60 be the only patch he needs? 2. Operation Arrowhead as a stand-alone game. Will 1.60 be the only patch he needs? 3. Operation Arrowhead and Reinforcements. Will 1.60 be the only patch he needs? 4. Combined Operations. Will 1.60 be the only patch he needs? 5. Combined Operations and Reinforcements. Will 1.60 be the only patch he needs? .

Help With Editor
Joe98 replied to Powermaniac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Thats because you have used the Wizard to make some mini-missions. Its a mini editor. To do what you want you need to use the full game editor. Select "Single Player" > "Editor". . -
No it won't "fix it". Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead are 2 separate games. When people make new scenarios, maps or what-ever, sometimes the content includes stuff from Arma 2 which does not appear in OA. As a result it will not work for those of us who only have OA. Liik carefully and you will find that were designed all all the stuff is from OA - and that will work for you ( and me). . .

About 30 years ago I saw some late night movie. A fellow drove into a small town that he had not been to before. At was almost dark and somebody ran across in front of his car and the car hit him! Our hero stopped but there was no injured person to be found. He went to the police to report it. The next morning the car was inspected and some flesh was found. It was human flesh but strangely it was dead flesh! It has been dead for quite some time! There had been a hit and run months ago so the police questioned him but advised him to remain in a hotel and not to leave town! A few creepy things happened and he found that after dark he was under threat from zombies! With an explanation for that dead flesh he went to the police to find that they too were zombies! He rushed to get away but strangely the zombies were not after him. One tried to befriend him. Only then did our hero realise that he was dead and he too was a zombie! Aaaaaaaarg! . . . If there are to be zombies in the game they need to be modelled to correct Army / Marine specifications to accuratly reflect real life ones. . .

How to deploy static guns?
Joe98 replied to SandMan13's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Regarding the M252 mortar Place yourself on the map first, then place other soldiers and finally place the mortar. That places him last in the list and easy to find in a hurry. A fire mission is 4 rounds. You can order 3 fire missions then the mortar runs out of ammo. To stop it running out of ammo you need to add ammo. In the int line type this: {this addMagazine "8Rnd_81mmHE_M252"} forEach [1,2,3,4,5] You have now added 5 magazines, each of 12 rounds You can add as many magazines you wish, just keep going after "5". You can instead add smoke rounds. If you add smoke rounds you cannot order "Smoke" or "HE" Instead place 2 mortars on the map. One has HE rounds and the other smoke. . . -
Following the comments about Arma 3, I generally get the feeling it will not interest me! . .
-
I am fairly new to the editor. Pretty much anything you want to do can be done without scripting. Sometimes you need to find a work-around and to date i have always found a way. . .
-
Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead are separate games and have have separate patches. . .
-
If you buy Arma 2 from Steam you must get any patches from Steam. If you buy Arma 2 from Steam and later choose to buy Operation Arrowhead, you must buy both from steam or neither from Steam. . .

When working in the editor, let animals be given waypoints. Soldiers on patrol spot some movement and and and …………Soldiers manning a post on a dark night see a flare tripped……. When working in the editor, a soldier icon has a footprint of about 2sq meters. An animal icon has a footprint of 50 sq meters! I suggest reducing the footprint. -

Include High Quality User Made Islands with Patches?
Joe98 replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I have Operation Arrowhead, BAF and PMC. I do not have Arma2. As a result, none of the user made maps works for me. If BIS produced another add-on like BAF or PMC with more content and/or map(s) I would gladly pay for it (them). . .
