  1. I'm also a real life helo pilot and have to agree with Chris however there is one thing that I feel has been overlooked and that's wind. In real life wind changes everything and I think for the gamer who wants a real life experience, getting into an LZ with wind trying to cock the aircraft can be "very interesting" especially if causes LTE (loss of tail rotor effectiveness, i.e. tail rotor vortex) in the hover etc. But yes retreating blade stall and vortex are definitely things in my mind that would be good to model. The pedals definitely also need to be looked at from an authority perspective; there just simply is not enough tail rotor authority there. In real life even when flying at a relatively decent airspeed if I hoof in pedal one WILL know it. In game this is not so. I find that the tail rotor effectiveness is only really there when at a very low airspeed. Also I think that it would also be better to have airspeed in knots and height in feet as an option. Metres and miles per hour are not quite correct. And lastly the "deadzone" issue, but I don't need to repeat what's already been covered. Other than that BIS; you guys have a done a fantastic job so far!
  2. I'm pleased to announce that we've had exceptional growth in the last week. It is truly awesome to be a part of the 16AA. From real life military members to real life helo pilots and everything in between to the implementation of the practices found in these fraternities; 16AA is probably one of the closest one can get to milsim in a game. We do not however stop there, we are constantly looking for new ways to improve and this is the lifeblood of the 16AA. If you are looking for a true milsim unit with the appropriate maturity levels to go with it then you've found the right unit. Please visit our website here and fill out an enlistment form found in our forums. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Plane and Helicopter realism poll.

While your points 2 and 3 sense, point 1 here is actually wrong. I'm not flaming you bro as I do not expect everyone to know about helos in detail so with all due respect let me explain in basic terms: In fact the exact opposite happens in real life with a helo. A helicopter does not create a vacuum and start to fall when in the hover in ground effect (H.I.G.E.), it actually creates a "ground cushion" which assists the helo to hover. With hover out of ground effect (H.O.G.E.) on the other hand, the hover does require more power in real life to hover but still no vacuum. The only time a helo sinks while still in powered flight is in a case of vortex ring state (aka settling with power). Having said that, it is important from a realism factor, that at least the very basics of helo aerodynamics be covered if we want a better realism experience. An example of this would be the right yaw in a helo with blades spinning in an anti-clockwise direction with a required "left pedal input" to counter the torque effect on the helo or the effects of wind in game on a helo. Getting into and out of a tight LZ for example with a wind component is a lot harder than with no wind component. Men have died trying, literally! So a wind component at the very least would be my first prize from a wish-list perspective. I'm fully aware that this is NOT a true flight sim so this must be taken into account. In essence we cannot expect BI to build a fully fledged flight sim, so to expect the setting of fuel mixture for a game I think is taking it a bit too far. Besides all the aircraft in ARMA are jet engine aircraft and one does not set mixture in jet engine aircraft, only in normally aspirated (aka piston) engines. Flight sim building and flying should be left for that fraternity but a certain degree of realism from an aerodynamic perspective would be nice.

    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

Please can we get a wind component for the aircraft. As a real life helo pilot, this is one of the challenges I sorely miss in game. An autorotation downwind is very different to an auto into wind. Also getting in and out of LZ's with a crosswind will also raise the realism level that BIS's ARMA is synonymous with. Also it should have options to be variable (i.e. wind direction and velocity) or to set it as a constant. This would also attract many "new" prospective players who traditionally look for more than just a flight sim. There are many flight "simmers" who want to be operational and not just fly around aimlessly like in FSX. For me and I'm sure for many other RL pilots, we fly around in the day in RL but never get to experience military operations so this would be really cool for us. Please can the aircraft also have an option for wind speed in knots and altitude in feet above both terrain and sea level. Currently I suspect this is currently in kilometres per hour and meters for height in ARMA 2. Lastly, some of the runway headings in ARMA2 are not correct and are swapped around. Just some thoughts.

  6. Thank you so much for the reply. I have tried multiple re-installs now and everything works fine until the 1.56 patch. I'm not sure if there is another build other than the 1.56.76134 build but suspect it may be that or it may be the automatic BAF 1.02 that installs in the 1.56 patch. Really don't know what else to do now. I have completely un-installed everything now and am going to start from scratch again. I'm not as annoyed as yesterday but just want a solution now. So please forgive my venting! Regards Saint EDIT: The problem has been solved! I have determined that for some reason I could not just apply the 1.56 patch to an older version than 1.55. So I had to install each previous patch individually. Fortunately I still had them from previous downloads. I cannot tell you the reason but it worked. I now have sound!

    Patch 1.56 Bug reports

So here's my problem! I recently un-installed ARMA off my PC because of problems I had picked up using mods. Upon re-installing all of my games and add-ons etc (i.e. ARMA, Arrowhead, BAF and PFC) without mods I had no sound!!!!!!!!! Fancy that!!!!!!!! Well I decided that it may have been a problem with Direct X so I upgraded that but still no sound. And after numerous sessions of searching forums on the possible problem I opted to re-install and see what happens. I got sound back and after checking ARMA and was happy so I proceeded to re-install everything again. Then NO SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!! By now I'm starting to get annoyed! So I un-installed again! And re-installed checking after each step of the re-install (i.e. after each patch or add-on; BAF and PFC) I have found that I lose sound after installing my BAF add-on and can only assume it will do the same for PFC. So now I am completely hacked off to say the least because I have paid for these add-ons and they don't work. I'm going to try re-install one more time and download a fresh copy of the files from GamersGate where I bought the add-ons and see what happens. Can someone please assist and tell me if this would work? Or what else should I do? All this installing is really starting to get a bit much! EDIT: so now I have redone the re-installation for the ummteenth time and have determined that it is in fact the 1.56 patch that is corrupting the sound capability. What is the solution? No Sound

Well I've reinstalled Direct X 11 and NOTHING!
  10. Hello All, I am the Commander of 1 Flight the Airwing unit in our clan; the 16AA and am also a real life helicopter pilot. This is me: The reason why I mention this is to illustrate the kind of experience you're in for should you join the 16AA as a potential helicopter pilot. We have proper training around specific roles and pilots are required to earn their Half Wings, Full Wings and other speciality roles as well. This is emulated on real life and training is very similar although dumbed down for the game. We are in the process of recruiting helicopter pilots and only have vacancies for another 3 or 4 at this time! We are a MILSIM unit and as such endeavour to make the game as realistic as possible but at the same time having fun. We're a mature group with an average age of between 27 and 39 but do have some older and younger members as well. I believe as helicopter pilot you may very well enjoy the 16AA since many of our other members have experienced the thrill of flying helicopters emulating on real life operations. We have a healthy mix of members from USA, Canada, England and many European states right down to me in South Africa. First and foremost we are a great bunch of friends, with members making an effort to visit each other when travelling abroad and some have even sent pc hardware parts to others to "help them out", as well a T shirts for the clan. There's nothing more I can add to that right now so if you're looking for a flyboy's job, this is the place to be! Please feel free to check us out and perhaps meet us for a chat in TS if you like to discuss your future as a helicopter pilot in the 16AA. All the best. CTD: OA has stopped working

For me my Arma2 OA crashes before it even starts. Is there a solution to this? EDIT: I have solved the problem by using "Troubleshoot compatibility" in Windows 7. I hope this helps someone else!
