New VR Headest actually looks viable for average gamers
BobcatBob posted a topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game This is a 110 degree FOV Stereoscopic 3D device with responsive 6DOF headtracking. 640x800 Resolution per eye, no idea how it compares to the Retina display Apple has, but I'm sure it's good! I can't wait to play Arma 3 using this bad boy! -
SPIE rig anyone?

Will there be any fixed wing aircraft in the first release of the Alpha?

If so, what improvements can we expect? (Better handeling? RTT guncam/laser targeting screens)? -
I haven't seen any comments yet about the new official improved mid-range ground texture, so if people could post examples and compare the new/old ones that would be neat.
-
Aww, shit man that sucks, much respect for carrying on though! We're all rooting for you! :)
-
Thanks! It would be sweet if someone could show the whole wall/door breaching thing as well!

Video footage for those waiting for a new gaming PC please? ;(

To go with the theme of ignoring Stratis already... http://goo.gl/maps/bbrfJ this better be the place where the head Iranian commander is based (on Altis), and BIS that pool better be full of water when I get there...

[Video comparison] Bullet impacts on human targets

I think OGR had great hit-reactions, making you reel and recover everytime a round smacked into you. -
I would at least like fully destructible doors.

YES!!! -
Lol BIS should Troll us HARD with uber realistic rain that gets in our eyes constantly and fucks up our vision alot (If we don't have eye goggles or a boonie hat or other protection) rain should also be influenced by wind so wind + rain in your face equals SQUINT/BLINK blackness and reduced FOV every 3-5 seconds as you do :) :) :) :) :) Make those windshield wipers mean something dammit!

Read "the Activity", an intruigeing style of more fact-than-fiction comic-book series that has some straight up ISA shooters in combat (usually not by there own choice it seems) but mostly doing espionage CIA type stuff where large numbers of enemies may be shooting at them if things go south.
-
Can BI confirm that they are on board just the same for MS's platform, or can they at least confirm at this time that they are not ONLY in with Sony?
-
Only if they want to die alot faster than the rest of us do, no one wants an unrealistic, inexhaustible jump that floats you effortlessly into the air and allows you to shoot uninhibited whilst doing so. I think Ground Branch will demonstrate this effectively in the near future... (Literally short, quick, bunnyhoping wont allow you to dodge bullets aimed at center mass, where they should be)
-
That + a grass draw distance slider....
-
Jumping that is realistic solves the problem by lurching your whole goddam body and weapon up into the sky as you do it, so you can't really hit anything at all until you have landed, and even then, if the landing is forcefull enough, you will need a second (for some crzy freerun type gymnastics jump 3-4 seconds even) to recover and there fore put your self at a stupid disadvantage in combat unless that jump takes you somewhere safer. So jumping should DEFINATLY be in if the devs are ready/able. Also while we're reequesting movement mechanics, buddy boosting would be wonderful as well as ledge grab when hands are free.

I feel like the game is trying to increase player involvment by assuming that that natuaral sight picture/retention that you all are talking about (done reflexivly by our active muscles when firmly holding/bracing the weapon) does not occur automatically in game, and in Arma is up to us to simulate that ourselves (ontop of the usual effort required to further compensate residual recoil actively) with mouse compensation. So, if you assume that the game is trying to sumulate weapons recoil as if we were all holding it with no real grip or body-readiness whatsoever would the resulting kickback be accurate?

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion
BobcatBob replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
http://alpha.arma3.com/ says alpha version 0.6, so I guess the work has already started! -
The Background imagery looks great but something about the guys face and colors/expression looks goofy to me I think it would look much better if the dude in front was nicely desaturated, less stylized, to match the the rest of the background, like if he just looked like he was part of the same "scene" as the tank and helicopter. Other than that I think it looks good, better than past box art in the series... right now it certainly is eye-catching though imo in more of a "This looks weird" way than a "holy crap that looks awesome and stands out what is that" way. Either way I'm sure it'll fulfill it's purpose and get people to look at the other side of the box regardless, it's just not an image I'm looking forward to seeing on my shelf as it is.

Putting Stratis into perspective on size.
BobcatBob replied to rehtus777's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
The sad thing is we'll need maps that are 1,000x1,000km to use jets properly though and ridiculous view/shadow/object draw distances to boot! BI will need to come up with some badass terrain generation/editing tools for that scale and detail in the next decade if that is to become feasible. -

Just Cause 2's map is bigger than all of Arma's maps though, that thing is 1000sq kilometers...
