    Military Codes & Callsigns

The question is a bit vague, but as far as troop communications that you'll hear on a modern battlefield goes: "FOB" - Forward Operating Base, a smaller camp connected to a larger camp via supply routes "Contact [direction]!" - called when an unidentified individual is noticed by a member of the squad. "Mount up" - board the given vehicle "Victor/Vic" - term for any ground vehicle, based on NATO phonetic for V (i.e. "let's mount up on these vic's") "Helo" - helicopter "Klick" - one grid square on the map, approx. 1 kilometer And then you have the NATO alphabet which is used to describe a variety of things (ie. 40MM rounds are known as "40 Mike Mike") so learning the NATO alphabet will also help a bit. But again, it really depends on what kind of dialogue you're going for and what the situation is. There are also set guidelines for the way that airstrikes and artillery are called in such as 9-lines and ADDRACs so there's a lot of military codes out there.
  2. I'm looking for an english-speaking fun clan that uses tactics and strategic gameplay in ArmA 3. I can't really join a dedicated clan at the moment, since I'm located in Japan and the time zones are a bit too different, but I am looking for a group that maybe has late night events and servers.
  3. I honestly hated playing TvT in ArmA 2. I don't know why, I just did. They did a really good job with Arma 3's adversarial, what with the ease of grenade use and the ability to use various stances. This is one aspect I hope doesn't change too much.
  4. I was wondering if there was any way to change your units for use during the singleplayer campaign. For example, instead of playing as razor team playing as a MARSOC team from downloaded skins.
  5. Could someone make or direct me to some rainbow six-esque counter-terrorist/ swat units? http://www.imfdb.org/w/images/thumb/4/40/Rainbow_Six_3_-_Raven_Shield.jpg/300px-Rainbow_Six_3_-_Raven_Shield.jpg and http://pics.mobygames.com/images/covers/large/1021665254-00.jpg I love old-school swat style equipment like balaclavas, pasgt helmets, goggles, etc. I haven't been able to find too many units like that on armaholic since their all mainly military-oriented. I would really like to make some urban, hostage rescue scenarios with units like that

The trouble with getting people into Arma

Well we all saw what happened when a game tries to cater to CoD fans and sim fans at the same time: a red river of failure. BIS needs to just keep doing their thing. I've had the same problem with getting people to play arma. Out of the 4 friends I've introduced to it, 1 actually enjoys it as much as, if not more than, I do . It boils down to the amount of patience and the lack of instant gratification in ARMa. When you get a kill in call of duty, you hear a little noise, an x pops up on your screen along with +50 points. In arma, you're lucky to be able to see the people shooting at you, and you need to be close or recognize the preset death anims to even know if you killed the guy. But at the same time, arms replaces that short burst of instant gratification with a lot more rewarding sense of accomplishment when a plan comes together on an open, unscripted mission

    Stealth Kills?

BI should work with Hideo Kojima for this one. Metal Gear Solid meets ARMA would be amazing

    Sandbags with machine gun?

I think he's saying he wants a static unit that is a sandbag and an MG in one.

New vehicles for the next patch

I agree. I want more than the F-35B for a fighter aircraft. I'm surprised they never added and f-16s, F-18s, or even F-22s with OA.

    AI react to dead bodies

God i hate all the people who go into suggestion threads just to say "God no, it would be too hard to put into the game" Metal Gear Solid had enemies that reacted in multiple ways to dead bodies way back in 1998. Are you making arma 3? Are you on the development team? If not then shut up and let people have their suggestions without listing ways that it couldn't be done. Bohemia is a professional game studio, not a bunch of programming interns who need to be told what they are or are not capable of. I actually think this is a great idea, and bohemia should really look into this to increase the immersiveness of A3
  11. I just have a simple skin request. Is there any way to get a marine unit that looks exactly like the one in the center of this screenshot: I know there's units that look similiar, but none that look just like these. Basically I'm just asking for a Force Recon demolitions unit that has a OD green watchcap instead of the black one, a green backpack (I guess you could just use the medic one) and some ear protection like the one in the picture. Can anyone do this for me?

Is ArmA 3 Futuristic? Yes. Realistic? Maybe.

He was obviously talking about the weapons, vehicles, and gameplay. To argue that the laws of physics could possibly change in the next 20 years, and use that argument to challenge the OP's arguments, you would have to either be extremely stupid, or a troll. Neither of which belongs in this thread.---------- Post added at 14:32 ---------- Previous post was at 14:31 ---------- I'd like to know the same thing
  13. So I bought ArmA 2 from steam, and Operation Arrowhead and PMC from Sprocket. OA and PMC both recognized and installed to my ArmA 2 directory in my steam folder and created Combined Operations. If I were to buy BAF from steam as well, would it recognize my OA since it installed to my ArmA 2 folder and became CO?

Is ArmA 3 Futuristic? Yes. Realistic? Maybe.

Arma III takes place 10 years from now, and there is no realistic way that the laws of physics could change in that time span. The OP of this thread is pointing out the difference between futuristic and realistic. The stubborn and ever pugnacious BIS community just chose to somehow make an argument out of plain facts.
  15. LOL are you serious? The community at large insults and harangue anyone who doesn't agree with their opinions. This forum is a prime example, by the first couple of posts. Every other thread that suggests something that could even be conceived as 'cod-like' gets the same treatment.
  16. Steakslim I think I remember playing with you on the ussocom server a couple of times. And what you said is very true. A lot of clans, including USSOCOM, have ridiculous requirements to join, especially considering most people just want to play the missions with them and don't intend on revolving their lives around it.Back on topic, ArmA 3 is definitely in need of more accessibility. Unfortunately most of the people on this forum equate 'accessibility' with being 'dumbed down', which isn't the case at all. All the things that the OP mentioned are in CoD and battlefield, yes, but they are not the only differences between those games and arma. You're lying to yourself if you can say that you've never wished that some aspect of the arma UI was made simpler. It's annoying to try joining a server, only for it to have some mod that you have to look up, download, and figure out how to install. If you aren't already experienced with computers and making modfolders then I can see how downloading mods alone would be a turnoff to what could have been good players who are just as mature and tactically oriented as anyone else, but who doesn't have the time to figure it out or who doesn't know the benefits of mods and therefore sees no reason to spend so much effort. This is one of the reasons why almost every server in vanilla arma 2 is empty, and only a handful of servers in operation arrowhead consistently have players. It would never hurt to have more players. Sure, there would probably be more hackers, griefers, and noobs. But that's every online multiplayer game. If there were more training options, perhaps, or an entirely different set of servers for players who want to learn how to play from more experienced players (Metal Gear Online did it, and that game has one of the worst communities of all video games. I'm sure this community could pull it off). But the answer isn't to shut the doors or leave a gauntlet of user-unfriendly features for people to navigate only if they're dedicated enough to try and figure it out.

Going Cyclic; Blind Firing; Recon by Fire

This is a really good idea. It would be cool to have the AI actually show some emotions. The most passionate thing you'll hear out of an arma 2 AI is "FUCK! The bastards got [insert squad member number here]". Out of all the things I hated about Dragon Rising, one thing I enjoyed was hearing the panic and fear in the PLA voices as I wiped out their squad and closed in on them.

    Merkava... IDF??

Right, because in 2007 we were fighting on Sahrani and in 2009 we defeated the chernerussians in real life, right?

    Player Leveling

Unfortunately, most of the ArmA community are a bunch of close minded elitists who would everything to keep their game from "the masses". This is why they expect BI to keep making the same Eastern Europe theater games and scoff at the idea of something *shudder* different with the plausible future plot. It's why any time a mechanic used in games that have seen much more success than arma is suggested to be used in arma, the person who thought if this is demonized by the community. These are the elitists who think that ArmA is the perfect game, yet complain constantly about things they don't like in it, then complain more when something different is done to it.There is no point in trying to post any new ideas in these forums. Unless you're suggesting adding something that ACE already adds, or bringing back something from an older game, you are guaranteed to meet the nerd rage of everyone in the forum

ArmA 3 like Battlefield play 4 free.

That's not what I said at all. I said that there is nothing wrong with a game making a lot of money. At no point did I say games that make a lot of money are automatically better. But, naturally, if the game sold 10 million copies then obviously it did something right. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad thing, and that's something that you guys need to understand.Your opinion probably makes up about 10% of the ArmA population as a whole, which in turn makes up about 1% of the PC gaming community, which in turn makes up about %10 percent of the entire gaming community. Just because you think you have a bigger brain than everyone because you don't play popular games doesn't mean a damn thing.

ArmA 3 like Battlefield play 4 free.

I never said they should make the game less realistic? And yes, I heard of VBS2, but how many copies of that game do you think the military actually buys? And no, they are are not a very well known studio. Not on console, not on pc, especially when compared to larger studios. How often do you hear about ArmA news outside of this forum, or on PC gamer ---------- Post added at 21:21 ---------- Previous post was at 21:18 ---------- I'm not going to argue with you guys, but this is the problem with indie media - the fans. Many of them only like the product because it isn't "mainstream", and if it becomes "mainstream" they're suddenly no longer following their core values. I respect bohemia enough as a company that I trust that their game would stay true to the series no matter how popular, or how much money they make.

ArmA 3 like Battlefield play 4 free.

I don't know what the arma community's problem with success is. BI is a very small studio, and they could always use more money. If you guys really want ArmA to stay around for a while, you'd want them to get more money. Having more players does not equal turning into call of duty or battlefield. It equals successful marketing which BI has yet to accomplish. So what if more people know about this game? It's not a fucking secret. The people who don't like realism won't buy it, and the people who do but have never heard of arma (like me, I found this game by accident while looking for rainbow six games on wikipedia) will have the opportunity to enjoy the greatest game of all time. Seriously, people on this forum are more annoying than the indie band groupies who think their band has 'sold out' if their song is played on the radio. This post was mainly for the first couple of posts on the thread with people saying shit like they want to keep people away from this game. I honestly didn't read the OP too well, but from what I did read it wasn't a bad option to have to find games quicker.

    Why are people so conservative?

It's baffling that people really expected ArmA 3 to be just like the last 2 (and 1 standalone) games. It baffles me just as much as how on most games the 24/7 "one map" servers are the most populated ones. Why would anyone pay 6 bucks for more of the same? ArmA 2 will still be there ones A3 comes out. If you hate the new game that much, no one is forcing you to leave the old one. Also, there are a total of 9 screenshots for this game and a vague, 6 sentence plot that was probably written more to reveal the background than depict the entire single player. If you're already making predictions for how bad this game is going to be, not only can you not call yourself a BI fan, but you're also a raving pessimist.

    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

I think it'd be cool if the AI investigated sounds. Like if you wanted to distract a couple of guards while trying to enter an enemy base, you could toss an empty magazine into a bush or something, or say a spec ops team already planted charges on an objective and blew them. The enemy AI would send a squad to investigate the sound and maybe leave a few guards behind, while the main force moves in with less resistance. I just hope that there is more of an emphasis on stealth gameplay for this entry. Metal Gear Solid has been the only decent stealth game for far too long (Splinter Cell blows)
