ArmA 3 stops recognizing joystick as controller

If nailed my problem down to pausing the game and entering the control's configuration. As soon as I do that the controller disappears every time.

    Jump In FPS?

I was until recently one of many who's been suffering from a very poor frames per second rate - between 11-20 FPS with a decent gaming rig just wasn't cutting it. Making no change to my setup, I noticed my frame rate shoot up to as much 80+ FPS whilst averaging 40+. The only difference I noticed is I'm now unable to join my dedicated server through the internet... I can now only join my server through LAN. Any ideas?

ArmA 3 stops recognizing joystick as controller

I recently purchased the DLC but still no change with the controller disappearing issue. I have however noticed that leaving the Window's game controllers window open often prevents the issue from reoccurring. But if I'm in-game and I decide to enter the game's USB controller configuration menu it causes the controllers to disappear.
  4. I was reminiscing when watching the old 'Joint Operations' videos about the good old days gaming, when it suddenly struck me what 'immersive' sounds Arma is seriously missing. Yep, that's the desperate pleas for help from our seriously and mortally injured comrades whilst in battle. Whether cries for help, moans and groans or pleas, the reality is when in battle and your comrade gets hit you'll hear him or her call out for help or just whimper as they succumb to their inevitable fate. Sure, it's a distraction and annoyance, but it's also realistic... Adding these sounds may IMO encourage players to play as medics to help stop those meandering cries for help whilst fulfilling a role that many don't want to undertake.

How Much Is Arma Worth To You?

I'm old school.... meaning I was probably having sex before many on this forum were a twinkle in their daddy's eye. But more to the point, I remember playing on the 10p Space Invaders. How much was 10p back in the early 80's? Not to sure, but it'll definitely equate to a lot more than it's worth now. Gamers fixated on video games would pump money into arcade games like a crackhead would snort coke. But of course, then gaming the console was born which was the beginning of the end for arcade games like Williams' Defender. I remember Atari :) Now the consumer has consoles and PC's to play video games I can't help thinking that we've grown complacent and take for granted that these games will somehow continue to be supported with merely the revenue generated solely from our initial purchase. I bought Arma 3 in its alpha stage for £20. I have however player hour upon hour of Arma for my entertainment and the game's given me a lot of satisfaction. I dread to think how much this would have cost back in the 80's if it were an arcade machine that I'd have to pump money into. What I'm saying is if we like and enjoy playing Arma and want it to continue to be developed by fixing bugs and releasing DLC, we have to financially invest into the game by purchasing DLC because the devs need to earn a living like everyone else. Just like a car, if you bought a full tank of gas it'll take you on a journey for a set distance, but sooner or later if you want to continue further on that journey you'll have to pay for another tank of gas. The question is how far do you want Arma to take you?

  8. In light of what's happening across the Middle East right now, I think it would be fair to say that 'if' BIS were to retrospectively chose to create a storyline with what's going on in the Middle East right now, it would prove to be extremely popular. There's no escaping or denying that the majority of consumers were disappointed with the Iranian futuristic storyline. But I guess BIS were between a rock and a hard place as they could have only felt that they had to create something new and refreshing. There will be people who of course would have been bored with killing an enemy like Arma 2's poorly equipped Taliban militants. But today's adversary has proven to be a totally different beast altogether. Anyone following what's going on right now in Iraq and Syria will know that ISIS, ISIL, IS, Islamic State - or whatever sh*tty little name they like to call themselves - are in fact a very organised, professional and well armed militant group with access to anti-air/tank weaponry, and all the armour and munitions today's armies currently have (almost). The militants even have, or at least had access to fighter jets. IMHO BIS now have the perfect opportunity to 'loosely' base a new storyline and mission scenarios on these historical events. Not to mention that BIS will be free from the controversy of upsetting people of a particular faith, race and nationality. Creating missions and side missions to degrade and destroy a well armed militant group based on militant similar to ISIS would IMO make an awesome expansion, mod or future release of the series. What are people's thoughts?
  9. Don't ask me how, but my FPS has recently surged from 20FPS right up to 80+. Nothing has changed with my setup whatsoever - same hardware, software, server, mission etc. With a new found confidence in BIS I decided to support them by purchasing the DLC knowing that the purchase will be an investment into the series. Before making the purchase I managed to repair my beloved Saitek wireless Cyborg by replacing the PCB that had a blown resister. Flight pedals and joystick worked a treat and I configured them to liking. But just when I was ready to finally redeem myself and purchase the DLC both my joystick and flight pedal setup disappeared in-game. They're both there in Windows config, just not in-game. A restart is required for Arma to recognise them, but they randomly disappear in-game. Apparently this problem is common and there's no know fix. I so want to support this game but how can I when there's so many issues that have been so detrimental to gameplay. Should I still purchase the DLC with hope that this issue will be resolved? Having no ability other than using the keyboard to fly DLC kind of defeats the object of buying their DLC! Why has this USB disconnect issue been going on for so long? People have reported no problems until updates or download the DLC. Can we really blame Microsoft for this issue when Windows recognises the USB controllers but Arma does not?

ArmA 3 stops recognizing joystick as controller

I'm running Windows 8.1 64bit. I've unchecked the USB power save function but still both my Saitek wireless Cyborg and Saitek flight pedals disappear. Sometimes this happens mid-flight when flying a jet etc. Restarting the game doesn't always fix the issue, neither does a cold reboot. The USB controllers seem to have a mind of their own on whether they'll show up or not. It's very frustrating.

Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow

The reason I said the perfect opportunity for BIS to create a storyline similar to today's conflict and adversary is because country/region, politics, religion, ethnicity and nationality are totally irrelevant to such a potential fictitious adversary. Let's not beat around the bush here, we all know that the militant group ISIS are of the Muslim faith, but what they are doing is un-Islamic, so they represent Muslims no more than Joseph Kony's LRA represents Christians.

Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow

I'm rooting something a lot more deeper. As I mentioned, today's militants are that much more organised, skilled, armed and a lot better financed. Even the media refer to the likes of ISIS fighters as soldiers oppose to militants/terrorists. The maps would have be more urban like Fallujah to represent cities like Ar-Raqqah. Of course we have the whole region surrounded by several seas to add some coastal maps.

Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow

Jordan believe their pilot was killed on January the 3rd. He was a fighter pilot responsible for raining down death terror with powerful weapons and loathed more than snipers and mercenaries. He was never ever going to make it out of there alive. I've watched the video of his execution and it was very, very professionally produced and edited with very powerful propaganda. When the likes of ISIS are selling oil from captured oil fields to finance their operations that is professional and highly a organised organisation. ISIS aren't Taliban tribesmen.. they're special forces, computer experts, war veterans, ex-fighter pilots even. It would be a grave mistake for anyone to underestimate an enemy like ISIS. But getting back on track with the original post... I think BIS and its devs could create something special and very convincing from that kind of warfare and enemy. Whether it's a fictional book or a potential movie's spec script, the reader will need to believe in what they're reading for the author/screenwriter to have any chance of successfully selling their work. Why do we currently only have three factions? If a coalition exists in real warfare why not incorporate a multinational faction? Why shouldn't say for arguments sake a Jordanian fighter pilot fly a sortie alongside American and British warplanes etc..? We have to remember that consumers come from around all four corners of the globe so giving a consumer an option to choose a role of their nationality will be hugely welcomed IMO.

Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow

You should have continued to have read the next paragraph, as it's not all one-sided. I think BIS' forum polls even proves that the "majority" of consumers (not saying you or many others) would have preferred 'not' to have had the futuristic storyline.

Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow

How have BIS stayed away from "real world events"? War is a 'real world' event; war is inevitable. It's a fact of life and wars will be fought regardless where and by whom for as long as there's life on this planet. There's no politics or religions to that matter involved here, but only ideas for creating and preventing a group of potential Arma fictional adversaries from imposing their way of life on the rest of the world. I suggest you read my initial post more carefully instead of making assumptions that I'm advertising my political views.

How Long And How Much Work To Build Future New Engine?

Agreed. As long as the engine can eventually be adapted to support multi-core processors. If it cannot then it's destined for the scrapheap.

Lack of Realistic Sounds On The Battlefield

It just seems strange that the devs have gone through a painstakingly amount of time and trouble to create what can only be described as an amazing and realistic infantry experience, only to fall short on something so simple as the effects of physical and psychological trauma. It's not pleasant, but unfortunately it is the reality of warfare and I honestly believe that BIS and its devs shouldn't shy away from documenting such graphic content should the consumer wish to see the reality and ugliness of warfare.

Lack of Realistic Sounds On The Battlefield

Agreed. I guess the devs could map sounds to a specific level of injury. They'd have to a number sounds to prevent repetitiveness. In many respects we already have the sounds with the fatigue and injury system, just not when the player it totally incapacitated through serious injury. I also believe the blood and gore should be representative of the level of injury. Take Wade's death in the movie 'Saving Private Ryan'.. a mere small hole in the chest from a single round can cause a hell of a lot of bleeding both internally and externally. But, I think the devs would have to create an optional level of blood through the game's settings so not to cause distress to anyone easily offended. Then the onus and discretion would be on the consumer and not the developer. That way BIS would be free from criticism and condemnation.

Lack of Realistic Sounds On The Battlefield

Pretty powerful stuff, especially with what I believe is a 'Hans Zimmer and co' piece of music. It's pretty emotional stuff - albeit acted out. But it just demonstrates that regardless of what killing machines and warriors men think they are, when we're faced with death our composure goes out the window. As unpleasant as it is, soldiers choking on their blood and pleading for help is an all familiar sound on the battlefield. I think adding such distressing sounds when a player's seriously injured will add a lot more depth, realism and immersion to Arma. As I mentioned, it may also encourage players to become medics. If tags are off in the game settings it would also assist player's to locate their injured comrades when visibility is impaired. It would be interesting to find out whether or not these distressing sounds actually influenced how players react. For example, would it make a usually selfish player become more selfless by helping a comrade rather than making kills?
  21. There's no if or buts, there's a 'lot' of disgruntled Arma players on this forum right now given the current FPS issue and who are openly airing their frustration and 'rants' on this forum. With that said, I couldn't help but notice that many threads that openly criticise BIS are being locked by mods for no other good reason other than they're either irritated or disagree with the poster's criticisms, opinions, accusations or claims; supressing the freedom of speech and expression by locking threads can be counterproductive and only serve to validate and propagate further criticism towards BIS. Debate needs to breath and should never be stifled. Regardless of that side of the fence a person sits on, democracy and the freedom of speech should be left unabated.

Constructive Criticism, Rants And Locking Threads

No rules broken. Just expressing an opinion which I believe North Korea and China permits from time to time.

Constructive Criticism, Rants And Locking Threads

The very reason what prompted me to create this thread. I saw absolutely no reason to why that thread was closed. I think Dyslexi had a point, but I also think those who had a reason to think differently had a right to express their views, opinions and put forward their argument(s).

What the hell is ^that^ about? "No real worth"? "Swearing at BI"?..... "real worth" is a perception and interpreted by individuals which can depend on many factors. Unless of course you live in a communist state. As for swearing? There's no swearing here so why even mention it? Or are you attempting to mar posts that criticise BIS with the assumption that people who criticise also abuse BIS by sweating in their posts?
