Thanks love nothing more than gunning down some civs from a choppers side MG

I agree, I kind of like to keep a clean install and only island mods are worth it to me. Problem is every user mission requires some obscure version of some buggy mod. It is really ridiculous sometimes especially when it is just thrown in their for the sake of it. I mean yea if its a mission called 'African assault' then it makes sense an African army mod will be in use, but just for a simple patrol or town take over there is no need for some kind of 'alternative US marine realistic coloured uniform toggles BETA v0.21' to be required.

Hi guys, A quick question. I just got a new computer but still have my old dual core, which is pretty slow it can only run arma 2 at all settings low. Cutting to the chase I like to play singleplayer warfare by going into multiplayer and hosting a LAN game. The game goes a bit laggy after playing it for half an hour or so and I was thinking if I run a dedicated LAN game from my old computer and join that with my new computer would this improve performance or lower it considering my new computer is twice as fast as my old one?
-
Thanks mate what you said is helpful, I am going to give it a try next week and post exact specs of each machine and whether it was better or worse.
-
The 1st computer I play on is an i5 3.20gh w/ HD5770 or something and the server is 2 gigs dual core something but basically it runs arma on low settings. My question is really more if a lower end computer gives better performance running a dedicated server for a higher powered computer, so specs shouldnt really come into to much just a question of logic?

For some reason my attacks work far better when using a fireteam leader in fireteams, don't know if the game actually takes into account having a fireteam leader in the fireteam but my experience is that it works better.
-
Simply select fireteam leader and maybe an MG and a medic or whatever else you want in the fireteam, then select team in the menu that comes up, then choose assign red etc.
-
A good tip from me is when in defense set all to prone, danger and set the direction. They are like killing machines who cannot be stopped (unless flanked on a very wide arc). Also try using 'find cover' when they are set to danger. They settle themselves in nicely. Fireteams also work quite nicely, so make sure to assign fireteams with a fireteam leader. With a full squad, in the middle of battle you can have three fireteams. If facing bad guys directly ahead, set one team to flank left, another to flank right and the last one to advance. Can mess up any ai squad, even if commanded by a human player.

The way everyone here bitches about realism no wonder they are moving to a fantasy game.

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
jwalstab replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If I have a steam copy of arma 2, and I choose to buy a retail box copy of OA, will I be able to play OA with arma 2 content without steam? Steam has been a big mistake as far as arma 2 goes and I don't really want to have to buy OA steam version for it to be compatible with my arma 2 steam version. -
A big thank you BIS for not wasting time on a linux, mac, xbox, playstation, wii, etc. platform of the game to dedicate your hard work to the windows pc version. Lets just keep arma 2 where it belongs, on windows, and let them try and optimize that as much as possible. Seriously as if BIS have nothing better to do than pander to a bunch of linux elitists.

Simple and basic Artillery... NO SCRIPTS!

Thanks mate appreciate it! -
Thanks mate for making a non ACE mission. Really appreciate being able to play a vanilla mission for once. I personally think most of the stuff ACE adds is tacky and buggy, especially at this stage. No offense to the creators I think it will be awesome when the final version comes out but for now the changes aren't great enough to risk stability.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
jwalstab replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I win, I run the game on a beast, unleashing the ultimate power of the Intel P4 Processor. P4 3.00ghz single core 8600gt 256 mb 2 gig ddr1 ram 350 w power supply I run most settings on low, with res at 1280x1024. Usually get like 15fps average on mission editor but I am pretty used to low fps kind of calibrated myself to handle it. -

Sounds good to me, because CAA1 messes up the civilian militia rifles which really pisses me off! -

jwalstab replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yea I made sure it logged in offline mode before the move, I was using it for 3 weeks fine as a trial. Seems it just randomly deleted my user logon information in the clientregistry.blob. Was just hoping there was a way to play my game...looks like I will have to use my time to actually unpack :\ -

civillian children
jwalstab replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Yea m5holmez at the moment I kill the women, its not as good as I'd like but it is tiding me over until someone finally puts some damn children in the game for me to blow up. Just have to say some of you need to harden the fuck up, I mean there are kids around the world who would shoot you in REAL LIFE in a second. Stop being politically correct idiots so we can work to make more realistic games. "oh no we might see kids get killed in a video game which is about war'. Seriously you want to play war you should be able to see what happens in real war. Unfortunetly children do get their heads blown off, and women do get raped and tortured, and men do get blown up. Deal with it, so next time we can have a realistic game. If more people saw movies and games that showed real war, involving the horrible shit that happens to women and children, it may make people think twice before going to war. Censoring war so its almost like a nice clean fair fight between Men, where your either dead or alive (not showing people missing limbs and arms etc. which is alot of war injuries) does more harm than good from a 'society values' point of view. -

Hi Guys, Have to say I am sick of negative bullshit all over these forums about an awesome game, this thread is saying a good thing you like about arma 2, followed by a short story of an awesome experience you had while playing it. The rules are no negative snide remarks about 'game is big but could have been bigger', shit like that will just bring down the positive vibe of the thread. Yes I know some of you have problems with the game, even I (fanatic follow of ofp, arma and now arma 2) have some issues with some things *I* think could have been done better, but this isn't the place to whinge about them, go to a negative thread to do that, where you can cry and throw bitch fits all you like I will start: Good thing about Arma 2: To me it is the only game I can bring up the editor in game, and create a realistic military scenario in just minutes, each time playing it with different outcomes even from the same soldiers perspective..I can spend hours just putting two opposing groups with a guard waypoint and see how it plays out. I mean especially with the modules and mods I can literally create anything! Awesome Arma 2 experience: Created a map the other day with basically all modules (animals, ambient war, sec ops, civs etc). Anyways so I began the mission with a small group of soldiers (squad leader, team leader, medic, sniper, machine gunner, grenadier, smaw, scout) went to free a POW camp as it came it from the secops. The secops mission was a good 2000m away thanks to some fine tuning of the module, so I call up the helicopter and transport the boys to the field, using my shortcut key to play winamp radio in the background (how I simulate vehicle radio..with real radio!). So halfway across the damn chopper comes under fire from some kind of APC, we go crashing down into the forest and bang only 3 of us left...walk around trying to heal everyone, but most people are done for. Problem is that mech sqaud that shot us down was closing in, so I do the only thing I can, tell my remaining troops to hold fire and retreat back while I call in an arty strike right on our position. I go for a jog with my squad mates hoping the enemy will follow right onto the arty strike area...then it hits me, one of my troops is still wounded near the chopper ('Where are you!?' comes over the radio). I go running back and see him, pick him up and start carrying him, running back to where my troops are hiding. Then I hear it, the whirl of APC wheels as it hurtles towards us knocking down any trees in its way. All of a sudden there is a huge bang and the trees next to me fall from an explosion from the mech squad chasing me. I keep carrying this guy full speed, and then the gunshots start..I think it is all over, especially when the guy on my back gets shot up, when I hear on the radio "Splash, OVER!". All of a sudden these big arse explosions come down from behind, as I keep carrying him..just as I get further an explosion blows us both to the ground...I turn around and see the devastation of the arty, the mech sqaud destroyed, bodies everywhere, with one or two men crawling away from the buring husk that is all thats left of the APC...I call in my medic who heals us and we go up and plug the 2 remaining mech squad troops, then walk to the clearing in the woods where my other troops were hiding, and call in the chopper. After waiting around for 2 minutes, I hear the chopper come in, and think that was quick. I get all the men ready and then realise the mistake I have made when '200 metres enemy chopper' goes over the radio. 3 seconds later we all are blown to bits..the few left crawling around in the rubble bleeding to death. Man this game is awesome.:D

If you chuck me your email or a place to upload it I will give you a mission which randomly puts a squad in with all modules active, as well as some basic radio tunes and ability to use all support options like arty and chopper
